Are we ever getting the ability to dual wield??????

I don't know if there was any recent news or info about this (i dont think so though), but i would again like to throw my suggestion in to add the ability to dual wield weapons in FFXIV...

Similar to how Raubahn wields two swords, would like the ability to equip a second sword on my paladin/dark knight or a second Axe on my warrior. (Machinist dual guns ect)

Can the game dev please add this??? :)

Even if its just for aesthetics for now...that would make a lot of people very happy to have that option. Thanks team!!

I don't think we are getting that, because it would change the Job skills and how it works. For example PLD couldn't hold a Shield, which is parte of his identity. WAR and DRK can't have another weapon because they use both hands to use theirs and MCH aren't "gunners", they are engineers and só they need the other hand to send/change turret and use theirs abilities to enhance their gun. Só that request doesn't make sense. Sorry

This topic always comes up everyone and awhile and it always gets shotdown. =w=
The main issue is that they would have to create animations for all skills and abilities that use one weapon so that they now use two weapons, which takes development time.

I dont know why it gets shot down...i feel like its a valid request...WOW can do it lol...its a very nice aesthetic. And as i stated above, even just having the option as an aethetic would be awesome. So for paladin, replace the shield with a sword...yeah thay would have to do new animations but...that def not beyond their skills right?? lol...they can even keep the stats the same, like second sword blocks same as shield. I just like using two swords. Im not a shield guy.

When it comes to Dark...yeah new animation for two swords...or maybe i can equip gladiator weapons on the drk if i wanted two swords on a Dark knight? lots of ways to do this. Obv it will take something from the dev team? but im still here asking for it. And im gonna keep asking for it until it happens or until the game ends....then a few days after that lol.

I forgot machinists use those turrets.

Yoshi did say they were discussing making a second class branch from gladiator with two swords back in patch 2.x so....id be happy with that too!

That was more like a "What If?" discussion. They've confirmed that they are going away from the Class-to-Job system for future expansions and just adding separate Jobs and that balancing classes that branch into two jobs with different roles like ACN to SMN or SCH was too hard.

I think it would be more likely if they made more separate Jobs that dual wield then to make the current jobs be able to.

also aside from the animation issues, im not sure but based on the changes they did to hw and the patches along the way, yoshi-p and team are sorta dead set on doing away with the offhands for battle classes/jobs except for GLA/PLD.

notice how BLM and WHM never got wands+shields after lvl 51 and GLA/PLD stuff were changed so they drop together now instead of seperate (for the newer content) and are actually treated as one weapon for item exchanges and such.

they're also having item exchanges so you could exchange your old 1h blm/whm weapon to it's 2h glamour version.

so sad to say, the answer to the OP's question is most likely, no

While it would be entertaining to see at some point, I hope they don't prioritize this too much in the short term. Making animations for dual wield jobs across all races and genders would take a hefty amount of development time that could be better used on actual gameplay content. With the Vertical Progression model, they really can't afford to fall behind on new gameplay.

I really hope they do add duel wielding, id love to see a sword wielding DPS that can duel wield, branch off of Gladiator. Just a nice solid melee sword using dps. People were all asking for invisible shields or the ability to de-quip the shield without losing stats bcc they wanted a sword only class. Not daggers, not knifes, katanas or Scimitars....SWORDS! Haters were all "thats dumb...dont make invisible shields, that doesn't make sense, shield lob will look dumb...ect" Now we have the heroic Spirit shield...INVISIBLE!!! animations are the same, but we have no more shield! FANTASTIC!!! Thank you Yoshi!!!!!! Truly appreciate that!!! They said it wouldnt happen, but it did. Some say duel wielding wont happen, but i believe it will. So if your listening Yoshi? lol.

Dual Wielding is not gonna happen, just don't work with the current jobs.

But a new job where 1 arm is equal to 2 (like Ninja daggers), maybe that can happen.

If I'm not mistake, Blue Mage in FFXI use two swords.

Well with respect you dont KNOW that right? U cant, They said that about invisible shields to so...it could happen. It would be sweet to add a second sword to the off hand section. WOW does it, many MMO's do it, why cant we in FFXIV U know? Should be do-able.

Dual wielding is a meme. We already have a job for that (NIN), and don't need to be in a big hurry to get another one.

I understand that mindset for ppl who might not WANT it? But for those of us who do? We are in a hurry. Nin use backwards daggers...not swords. Blue Mage use Scimitars...a TYPE of sword...but not what we want.

My signature is a perfect example of sarcasm. It's to call attention to how ridiculous a mindset one has to have to think like that.

If we get a job later that dual wields swords proper, that's fine. But we don't need to suddenly have Paladin doing it. I'd much rather they start holding their one sword with both hands in Sword Oath than give them another one.

What ate you talking about. Raubahn still wields a weapon in every one of his hands.

So, do you think the devs will rebuild the entire model animations for them use two axes (for example)?

Warrios and DRK use both hands to hold their weapons, as PLD use their off hand for shield. To put a another weapon they will have to rebuild all the animations. It's completely different from make a weapon invisible (like the shield).

That is not gonna happen. As I said before, maybe a new job.

I dont know what the dev team will do. Im not a precog. They have suprised us b4 with re-vamping things. If they do make a new job, i hope it can duel wield swords, thats all im saying. :)

There was never any talk for an 'invisible shield'. Only thing that came out of this was that SE would try to implement smaller shields. Invisible won't happen because 'muh immersion' would be broken.

Dude, there was TONS of talk from players about an invisible shield. Then... THEY ADDED IT! Heroic Spirit Shield...an invisible shield :) its done! lol

The new GARO event has an invisible shield.

Weapons in this game "ARE" the job. That's why the jobs that do Dual Wield - Ninja and Monk, their weapons are a singular item. (as for invisible shields, we just got one with the GARO event. Go check it out)

Adding dual-wielding for old jobs isn't happening when they could instead put there focus on new jobs with such a focus if they wish. Trust me on this, my name makes me an expert.

Hate to break it to you, but it's already been said in live letters that they feel that branching jobs like SMN and SCH will never happen again because it's a nightmare to balance.

As for the rest of your rant: No, most of us are not higher ups in the company and do not have final say. However, alot of us have been around since the beginning and have watched all the live letters, and generally kept our fingers on the pulse of information that the devs have indicated is the direction the game going. So, with that in mind we can more than likely, and with a fair bit of accuracy, tell you that something won't be happening anytime soon, if at all. You are welcome to disagree, but honestly.. you are wasting your time.

OMG learn to title your thread ppl....YOU DON'T WANT TO DUAL WIELD lol, you want to have a dual wield sword class....we have two classes that dual wield already....just not the specific way you want, make your title reflect that.

Because the answer to the question your title proposes, it's we already have had a dual wield job since 2.0, maybe earlier. I was never involved with the 1.0 fiasco.
