The only two things mouse and keyboard gameplay needs to be good prior to 2.0.

Ok, honestly I think the game has come pretty far now with the m/kb setup. I really like being able to bind to almost anything.

Alright, on to the two things I think would make the mouse and keyboard gameplay almost up to standards. First, let me right click to start attacking an enemy. This is so simple I have no idea why this has not been implemented yet knowing that Yoshida is a mouse and keyboard player. If in passive mode, this should take us into active and autolock if we have that option enabled. Honestly while playing with mouse and keyboard this is the most aggravating thing. When a mob dies and I try to frantically select my next target and then have to comfirm again to get my action bars up to taunt/use whatever skill?! YES I WANT TO ATTACK!

The next thing. Having to click up and down on the little arrows to move the action bars is really annoying. Let me bind this to scroll wheel. Or to my Back and Forward Mouse buttons. Hell, give us the option to rebind mouse keys all together. This way i can bind zoom in/out to shift+scroll wheel and change view or reset view to scroll wheel button. Being able to acquire targets quickly and have my all my abilities at the ready(well, not quite until we have all 3 bars on screen till 2.0 but close enough) would make the game a much more enjoyable experience when fighting.

PLEASE YOSHIDA I BEG YOU! :)

Other usefull tips:
Press both mouse buttons? Move forward! (like every other game)
Casting a spell and want to cancel it fast? Let us press escape to cancel! (Also, having an extra animation, and with it an animation lock, for canceling a spell is just silly in my opinion.)
Let us rebind the action bar! (this probably isnt coming till 2.0 but just wishfull thinking.)
Let us check a PC by right clicking!
Let us trade a PC by double-rightclicking!
Let us browse a PC by triple-rightclicking!(haha i jk)
Let us send a tell to a PC by shift-rightclicking!

I'm sure there are others but those are the only ones I can think of at the moment. If one of you awesome reps could get word on improving controls I would love it. I mean.. I loved playing FFXI with gamepad. And I enjoy playing FFXIV with a gamepad.. . but recently I tried the keyboard configs and tried rebinding the keys to a more natural setup and realized how close the game is to having an enjoyable experience when playing on mouse and keyboard. I would love to be able to jump from m/kb to gamepad and back again at any given time. But at this point, m/kb still feels abit weird, and it shouldnt at all. It should feel natural.

I would like to see this, but I don't know how much is possible on the current build :( From the sounds of it, it might take a ton of work, so my guess would be we'll see this in 2.0, still, the sooner the better. :)

A UI that breaks when you change the game's resolution. So no place able/size able windows or objects. Maybe they can be dock-able... but truth is they should maintain constant dimensions regardless of the game's resolution.

The mouse should perform one option... control the player directly. Like a FPS. You don't go messing with windows and fancy button clicks with those games do you? Of course not. So why would you here? If everything is placed in it's proper place there is no need to bother with it and you can focus on the game play.

I'm fine with using two mouse buttons for movement, and single/double clicking the left mouse button for performing actions... hold to control camera... click to target... double click to lock on and engage...

Right button... dunno yet...

The bottom line is this game doesn't use the right click enough. Right click in this game only means "I want to move the camera" and nothing more. In other western MMOs, right click means "I want to interact with this object", and that should be the case with 2.0. The right click needs to be properly supported in this game, and it's not, so I pretty much agree with EVERYTHING the OP said.

I don't want the right click to do anything but move my camera :(

But I also wish to be able to move from action bar 1-3 with my back and forward mouse keys.
As well as using ESC for canceling casts..this is even the most important part!xD

Actually, I think it should be a DEFAULT option and make the right-click-moves-camera a secondary action. This is the only semi-mainstream MMO I've played where right click does almost NOTHING useful.

Or, and this is a crazy idea, it could be for both interacting with items and controlling the camera. . .
