Concerns about 4.0 mounts

Will most of ARR and HW mounts become irrelevant in 4.0 because they can't swim? Apparently there will be large underwater areas which will be accessible only with a few new or maybe some upgraded old mounts.

If ARR to HW transition is any indication, the vast majority of them like beast tribe and tank mounts are useless in HW areas because they can't fly. A few selected mounts like Kirin got an ability to fly, but that was like 1 mount upgrade per patch.

Will all these ridiculous bird farms be for naught like it happened to primal ponies? The only use for them now is to take a rare ride in ARR areas or afk in Idylshire.

I believe it was said all flying mounts would be able to swim while the land only mounts cannot.

It was said that all flying mounts will be able to swim, so no the mounts will not become irrelevant. Also quite a few ARR mounts became usable in HW because they got the ability to fly. Primal horses, tank mounts and most of the ARR beast tribe mounts can't fly. But that's not near close to being all of them lol. Plus at the start of HW before you unlocked flying your ground mounts were relevant. That was the only way you could collect your flying ability. A similar system may be needed to unlock swimming (It was said there would be a special quest for it, who knows what that means for us)

Keep in mind, land and air travel will still totally be a thing. They only announced that because a need will arise for sea-based traversal, we (and our mounts) will learn to swim. But that's not to say we'll be going everywhere by sea.

I'd put money on the MSQ giving you one when it comes time anyway, just like you got the black Chocobo in HW.

I'm sure there will be new flying zones. It's inevitable that all zones will be reworked for flying in all areas at some point.

It's coded for land travel, so no, it cannot swim. The in game description even explains why it can't swim to begin with.

It swim in the beast tribe cutscenes though.

They're not going to be irrelevant. You'll have certain mounts to use in certain areas based on what is needed at the time. Does everything really need to fly, swim and dive underwater? I'd rather see more animations for player characters over having every mount tweaked to do everything.

It's not the same mount you buy from the NPC. Yours specifically can't swim because the webbing on its feet was clipped to make it move faster on land.

I prefer they don't swim, I like being forced to use a different mount.

Those aren't Cavalry Elbst though, just regular ones. The one we buy has had the webbing on it's feet removed so that it can run fast on land. This means though, that it can no longer swim very well, if at all.

They can simply make an addendum to the Elbst description:"As it turned out however, this procedure proved to be unnecessary and has since been abandoned." The precedent is already set.

But if you make it swim, then it has to be able to fly as well and I don't think magical farts are going to work a second time for a land mount.

They really need to make land only mounts run faster than flying mounts can fly....and also jump very high at least in stormblood areas so you can jump to a lot of places (but not all places like flying mount could).

Now that all of the birds are out, I have high hopes that they'll finally make the ponies fly (and swim) in 4.0. My guess is that they didn't want to make the ponies fly while birds were still the hot new thing.

I'm more concerned with my ADS mount. Will it kills everybody inside sea with it's electricity skill? :eek:
