Everything we know about Allagans?

Hey ^_^ I was just wondering if there was a thread, or someone that has a complete list of what we know about the Allagans? And I mean everything ^^;

Everything is rather long, and somewhat inconsistent. It would be much easier to answer specific questions, if you have any.

What did the lore book say about Allagans?

They have pages and pages of info about the Allagan in the lore book... >x>
Anything specific you'd like to know?

Allag is referenced numerous times throughout the Encyclopædia Eorzea. There's a smattering of mentions throughout the "basic" concepts including continents and primals, a whole 5 pages dedicated to the Rise and Fall of their empire, etc. More information comes along with the revival and rediscovery of Allag in the Sixth Astral Era (does the Fall of Dalamud & Binding Coils count amongst Allag for your purposes?)

Then you have every time the Allagan Empire was important in the MSQ (up to and including 3.4) mentioned etc. etc.

Suffice to say, much like in-game, the Allag's fingerprints litter the book and it'd be a bit of a hassle for just one person to amass every mention of them (unless there was some kind of digital version with a Ctrl+F).

Everything is a lot, and rarely is everything relevant to a discussion like the ones you'd find here. I can't think of a thread in recent memory where Sara, escargot and the Royal Sunway met with eikons, the invasion of Meracydia, and the subjugation of dragons.

Alright. Well. I'll try to be specific. I'm mostly looking to see information on their tech. How it functioned. Their language. And the big one being their knowledge on chimeras, and how it relates to the second coil.

Well the thing is the Allagans have basically done almost everything, almost all the advanced machinery you see in the game is Allagans lol, I don't remember the lore book talking about their language, basically the whole empire in the beginning was all about war if I remember correctly, then there was a lazy period( everyone was lazy lol) then towards their end they where all about war when their emperor was resurrected( o yea they did that too). I believe ( not 100 % sure about this) the chimeras where created by experiments with their information on Sephirot I believe and not sure about the second coil, I just glazed through that stuff, got to get either Scholar Moose to give you the information or someone on his caliber.

A list of all the Allagan things was an overwhelming thought, is all. A great many things have been tied to or blamed on Allag, and not all of them are related. From map landmarks to two separate raid foundations to dungeons to a chunk of the 3.0 main scenario to a whole spattering of random world lore: biology backgrounds, dragon history, advanced technology in a medieval world, Calamities, voidsent, Ascians. If it's not based on Allag, it probably has a line or two about how Allag interacted with it.

That said, my strengths are in hunting for missed specifics, proper context, holistic understanding, etc. Puzzles and campfires. Every time I try to curate pretty lists of already-knowns, I find some gap or another, get distracted, and wander off into the wilderness trying to close it. Otherwise I'd have fewer forum posts, prettier notes, and more finished wiki articles. (But also fewer solved puzzles and bridged gaps to write articles about! Freakin' Catch 22, if you ask me.)

But I can try to get the ball rolling at least; maybe we can narrow down which barrels of quotes out resident list-masters can tap for you, lol.

"The Gist" of each requested topic:

LANGUAGE
"The Ancient Allagan Tongue" is the source of the word "Egi", meaning "pure" or "in the essence of". In Mor Dhona, the Allagan ruins seem to be covered in a logographic script that I've never made heads or tails of. Both of these imply a different language than the Eorzean common tongue. Then again, Allag conquered several continents and thrived for a thousand years. I would imagine a variety of languages and ways to express them existed throughout the Empire.

And yet Unei, Doga, and the System Nodes (all from the twilight of Allag's reign) appear to be able to communicate in the common tongue just fine. Considering that the Tonberries of Nym communicate with Lominsans, and a familiar of Mhach communicates with the sky pirates, it might be fair to assume that the core common tongue of Eorzea arose during the reign of Allag. I have a faint memory of such a claim, but I rarely make notes on in-game languages and may very well have neglected to note the proof. But don't accept it as truth without proof.

TECHNOLOGY
Early into Allag's rise, the fields of magic and technology were fused into a single field of study: aetherochemistry. Enchanted machinery not only fueled Imperial weaponry, but made domestic life easier for all its citizens. To power all of these mechanical wonders, they raised the Crystal Tower in Mor Dhona to harness the boundless energies of the sun.

But with all of their needs met, the citizens of Allag lost their drive. The empire stagnated and began to crumble. A brilliant technologist named Amon schemed to bring the first emperor back from the dead so he could restore Allag to its former glory. This pursuit led to a rapid and radical increase in technological progress, advancing chimera and cloning technologies until he finally succeeded.

Under Xande's second reign, he moved to complete his life's ambition to bring the entire world under Allagan rule. These ever-escalating wars, now including primals, led to even more destructive technology being created, creating a feedback loop that caused the war to escalate further and further thanks to Ascian machinations. The most advanced of Allag tech was made during this time, such as the ability to bind and control primals and dragons (technology that eventually received a nudge from the Ascians).

In order to overcome the most powerful of the primals summoned against them, Xande made a pact with a self-proclaimed lord of the void, the Cloud of Darkness. But once the battle was won, Xande found himself hollow without this ambition. He had nothing but his memories of death and turned to nihilism, resolving to let the Cloud of Darkness consume the world. To open the voidgate wide enough that she might come through, Bahamut was bound in an artificial satellite to provide supplemental energy to the Crystal Tower. When Hydaelyn's champions led a revolt and struck the heart of the Empire, Xande tried to throw open the voidgate by discharging all of the energy in Dalamud into the Crystal Tower, but the tower buckled, sending all of the energy into the ground and setting off a massive chain of earthquakes that made up the Fourth Calamity.

CHIMERAS
Aetherochemistry led to chimerobiology, allowing man to encroach on the rights of gods by creating and altering life. Chimera production underwent several "generations", moving from clumsy infusions of a catalyst species into a host species with unpredictable, sterile results to highly customized entities possessing specific sets of desired traits and behaviors. By the fall of the empire, even voidsent were able to be synthesized.

COILS
The satellite containing Bahamut remained in orbit until it was brought down by Nael van Darnus. Pieces of the satellite, and the starships that docked with it, make up the Binding Coil of Bahamut. The facility contained a veritable army of automachina, chimerical bioweaponry, and enslaved dragons as guardians to prevent anyone or anything from ever putting the facility at risk of failing to contain Bahamut (the enslaved dragons, kept in a state if torpor, also ensured the Bahamut's summoning remained permanent).

I'll be honest I wasn't expecting anyone to type up the entire allagan history. I meant more if/was there one available. My main questions are more specific. To rephrase:

That's not to say I wouldn't ENJOY the knowledge. When I want to know about a certain part of the lore, I want to know as much details as possible.

Like most everyone already said, to compile a complete list of everything relating to Allag would just be... a truly massive undertaking. Likely take days to complete, not to mention tracing the seeds of what Allag left behind to current place names, occurrences, and such that at a quick glance might not at first appear related to Allag, such as the Lambs of Dalamud. But for those specific questions, we can easily pull some answers from the lore book.

Chimeras

Now that how the Allagans created the Chimeras is out of the way, we can quickly answer the why. As you might've guessed based on some of the specific chimera descriptions above, one of the leading catalysts to the progression of aetherochemical research was Allag's war against the Meracydians during the Second Reign of Xande.

The Allagan Empire would be great once again, and the road to greatness led south. The Meracydians, however, were not about to give up their homes without a fight. While the empire’s first wave of attacks were largely successful due to the fact they were unexpected, subsequent raids into Meracydia proved more difficult. The native peoples of the southern continent banded together under the leadership of the dragons who also claimed dominion in Meracydia. While without equal on the Three Great Continents, the Imperial Army’s chimerical warbeasts were no match for the dragons’ fiery breath, and countless casualties were suffered. This, however, only served to further motivate the scientists of Allag in their ungodly pursuit of might through biological manipulation, and it was not long before they had created abominations which exceeded the might of the Meracydian Horde. In a decisive and bloody battle, the Allagans slew the dawn wyrm, Bahamut, paving the way for immediate occupation… or so they believed.

With the dragons all but defeated, the Meracydians turned to their gods for salvation, invoking terrible beings known as “eikons” in one final attempt to rid their land of the Allagans. While there is no record of any eikon (currently “primal”) summonings on Meracydia prior to the imperial invasion, immediately following the fall of Bahamut, multiple tribes were simultaneously successful in calling their deities from the aether, suggesting that a third party may have been involved in the passing of the specific knowledge required to do so.

Of these eikons, three - Sephirot the Fiend, Sophia the Goddess, and Zuvran the Demon - or the “Warring Triad,” as they would come to be called, would prove the most problematic for the invaders from the north, temporarily driving the Allagans back to the Meracydian coasts. A furious Xande demanded a solution from his imperial cadre of mages, threatening to kill a man a day until they fulfilled his seemingly impossible request. How could one rid the world of a being the could simply be resummoned the moment it was slain? In their desperation, the mages turned to the very enemy they fought for inspiration, and before too many of their brethren had succumbed to the emperor’s wrath, they discovered a new branch of spellcasting which would ultimately become the roots of modern summoning, and utilized it to neutralize the power of the Warring Triad by imprisoning them, instead of defeating them outright.

Victory over the eikons should have marked the end of conflict in Meracydia, but the southern continent was not yet willing to concede defeat. Devastated by her mate Bahamut’s demise at the hand of the Allagans, the wyrm Tiamat endeavored to resurrect the dawn dragon in the same manner that the tribes of Meracydia summoned the eikons - as a deity. What rose from the ashes, however, was but a shade of the dusk wyrm’s beloved Bahamut. Twisted with rage, the great wyrm unleashed his fury on the Allagans, erasing almost immediately any advantage the empire had seized.

Emperor Xande found great joy in the ever-changing tide of battle, and is claimed to have said that he never felt more “alive” than during the slaughter of the Meracydian campaign. He also believed that a man was only as strong as those he slew, and therefore would welcome the onslaught of his enemies with open arms, using them as opportunities to gain even more power. The war with Meracydia fueled the advancement of Allagan technology and deepened the empire’s knowledge of arcane magicks. Not only could a dragon or an eikon now be captured, but it could be tamed, controlled. Its very life essence could be tapped and used as a source of seemingly endless energy - a fate that ultimately befell the Warring Triad. In a breakthrough by the imperial mages, communion with voidsent was achieved, ultimately culminating in the signing of a pact between Emperor Xande and the self-proclaimed “ruler” of the void, the Cloud of Darkness. In exchange for an unlimited supply of vessels which would house the minions of the void, allowing them to remain in the corporeal realm, the emperor merely demanded that the voidsent fight for him on the shores of Meracydia. With each enemy slain, a new vessel would become available, allowing for the immediate summoning of a host and subsequent possession of the body. The more the undead army killed, the larger their ranks swelled, until not even the mighty Bahamut reborn could overcome their numbers. The great wyrm grew gradually weaker, as the crystals required to maintain his strength became scarce due to overharvesting. Unable to wield his former might, Bahamut was finally captured and fitted with neurolinks, effectively making him a tool of the empire, and putting an end to Meracydian campaign. The Allagan Empire had claimed yet another prize.

The Allagan Language

As Anonymoose mentioned, a few words from an "Allagan tongue" appear in the game, as well as scripts on Allagan ruins. Considering the Allagan Empire toppled the entire known world, it's likely that several languages may have existed or perhaps a common spoken tongue that perhaps survived into the Fourth Astral Era.

For approximately fifteen hundred years - a number long speculated, but only recently confirmed with the discovery of an operating expulsion node in Azys Lla placing the abandonment of the floating research complex at five thousand years ago - the silent war against knowledge continued, the church manipulating what knowledge (if any) trickled its way down to the masses. Religious leaders went even as far as introducing a new alphabet for their holy scriptures, taught only to men and women of the cloth, so as to solidify their control over the realm through the continued illiteracy of the common people. It is therefore ironic that this alphabet for the privileged would eventually evolve into the Eorzean script used throughout the realm today.

Allagan Technology and Technologists

All-purpose iron claws were put to use in many aspects of Allagan society, from logistics to construction to military detail. The imperial army would deploy the unmanned vehicles into the lands of hostile tribes known to have summoned eikons. There, the claws would capture tempered tribe members and bring them back to Azys Lla where the captives would be goaded into summoning their gods so that the Allagans might capture them.
