You can buy gear from a vendor for each new area?
HQ always gives good stat than NQ
HQ gear has better stats than NQ, as he mentioned. Also, it will SB fomewhat faster, so you are not stuck with it quite as long trying to finish SB'ing so you can convert it after you've outgrown it.
Plus you can save yourself some monies if you gather the mats yourself. Which is a pretty simple thing to do.
Crafting an all HQ set for a sprout who just joined your FC is a really nice way to welcome new members too.
It also gives some nice XP for the crafting class used. Might as well craft some useful stuff while leveling those.
For those that like to min-max i guess at lower levels? And can always craft gear for newer players as well.
Come end game crafted gear is always behind ilv when new tomes come out but have better stats normally then tome gear (for some pieces)
There are alot of reasons why one would want to craft their own gear:
- Crafting your own gear means you will spend less on vendor gear. We must not forget that newcomers with no gil need a way to upgrade the gear of their crafting and gathering classes.
- The game wants you to make HQ items, if you want 2x-4x reward, then you need to hand in a HQ version of the item and crafting a HQ item requires high stats, skill or just luck.
- If you want to level fast, you need to hand in HQ items, this means you will either need to be able to make one yourself, buy one from the Marketboard or ask someone to craft them for you and that might cost you money aswell. For alot of newcomers the last two options is not possible, so they can only get them by crafting the item themselves.
- Its very handy and if you HQ them you only need one gearset every 10 levels. The HQ stats are higher then the NQ stats that you get from items after 5 levels, this means that you can keep wearing the same gear for 10 levels. Since all gathering and crafting classes share the same gear, this means that you will save inventory space and you can spiritbond the gear when you are done with it.
- After level 50, you can not buy the right side of the gear from an vendor, the only way to obtain them is either from a quest reward or crafting.
Personaly, I think the option to level our own gear was made so we can save gil, gil that newcomers wont have.
I never buy leveling gear from vendors or the AH, I get the 'new' stuff at 15 then replace from quests and dungeon chests as I go, the LEVELING game just doesn't need 'HQ' gear at any point before 60 frankly, clearly if you want to do 'hardcore' stuff like the raids ON LEVEL and without over-geared 60s then non-HQ stuff is likely a liability for most roles.
i do it cause i can? i ain't a 4 star omni crafter for nothin!
I can make money off of selling them
To make people play the game.
I used to craft on my other character, but i stopped when i noticed it's easier and simplier to just sell eikon mats that cost lore. 500k gil per 1k lore is profit over profit imo.
Glamours naturally
HQ crafted gear also bridges a larger level gap for leveling, so you can jump from one gear set to the next less frequently. NQ gear is quickly outdated, but HQ lasts a few more levels before needing replacement. It's also kind of satisfying to craft your own HQ set while leveling.
Also, once upon a time, Materia was not dripping from the game, and Spirit bonding/converting gear mattered a bit more.
Yep, I was suprised aswell. I reached level 50 with all my crafters few weeks ago and was suprised that there is no vendor selling the leveling gear for the right side. At first I thought I wasnt looking correctly, but few minutes on the internet and I found alot of threads some even dating back to when Heavensward was released and they were al about players complaining that there was no right side gear being sold by a vendor.
Personaly, I do hope this is something that SE will change with Stormblood, so new crafters who reach level 60 after Stormblood releases can have a easier time bypassing the huge stat wall that there is.
The right-side gear (ring/bracelet) in heavensward is available from the amber trader for the amber encased vilekins which you get from doing the levequest chests they drop sometimes. Kind of dumb IMO.
