What if the new Job is Beastmaster?

Call me crazy, but what if the new job is Beastmaster? The obvious answers seems to be Dancer, Samurai, or Blue Mage, but as Astrologian seems to incorporate elements of Time Mage, what if we got Beast Master with a slight affinity to Blue Mage?

Traditionally a DPS class, what if FFXIV put it into the Tanking Role, and had the player Transform into a Beast to tank, similar to various stances?

I know this is coming pretty much out of nowhere, but hey, speculation is fun, right?

As for a weapon, I wouldn't mind seeing a Whip as a weapon, although if the character transforms into a beast I can't see how the weapon would matter much. Maybe a talisman? Could be intriguing if the standard form (stance) for DPS is your character's natural state, and the tanking form (stance) is a transformation that varies based upon your weapon. That could offer a wider variety of option of transformations. Everything from Coerls and Eftmaws and Elbasts to Tigers, Bears, and Wolves.

So kind of like Druid from WoW.

As much as i would love Dancer far more then Samurai which i find overhyped in ths forum, lol) i am thinking Sam will be the next job announced for Stormblood.
There is a rumour of 3 jobs however so who knows, if at all it will be BluMage and Sam or Dancer. Beastmaster perhaps later expansions

Kinda neat, although it wouldn't exactly be a beastmaster....

That being said, I honestly wouldn't mind a yeti form.

Nah, Druid from WoW is pretty standardized. You DPS as a Cat and Tank as a bear. The idea here is you could tank as any kind of Beast, since your weapon (Talisman) would result in the form you take. So maybe at level 1 you have a shrew talisman or something. Level 25 a Coerl Talisman. Using glamours you could then select whatever form you like at whichever level. So if you want to Tank as a tiger, but your current Talisman turns you into something like a Chimera, you can glamour the Tiger Talisman over the Chimera Talisman.

It kind of loses the charm (lol) going that route. Playing as BST is sort of centered around manipulation or dominance of another creature, as the use of monsters are literally as pets. Essentially, the player maintains control two characters (e.g. SMN). With the lackluster state of Egi's, I'd argue SMN in this game is a pretty gimped version of the iconic job.

Would be kind of sad to see BST be removed so much from its iconic form with the inclusion of shapeshifting or really poor pet mechanics. Then again, that's just attachment for naming convention more than anything else... if they called it something different, I don't think it'd matter as much.

If Beastmaster ever happened I would love them to add in Morpher from FFTA.

As said above allow for utility transformation, a different mob per Race. Little more then a travel form. Hell let party members ride you. It would have no bearing on raids or pvp but gods above, shapeshifting into a Lanner like hawk or a winged tiger or something would be fun.

While I do miss my fuzzy armor and faithful jug pets from back in my FFXI days, I dread how the job would transition to XIV's style of combat. Sadly I'd worry we would just end up with a reskinned summoner with crab, tiger, and opo-opo in the roles of the egis.

Yea. Beastmaster would be horrid from FFXIV...I mean...summoner is a good example of that in my opinion. Of all the options to choose from...all we have is three summons. Beastmaster would likely be just a big as a joke. "Hey guys! Play a beastmaster! How many pets do you get? 3. Enjoy!"

Likewise blue mage would be laughable, as they wouldn't give you enough mimicked abilitys to be fun. As it stands, I can pretty much guarentee you any three jobs they come out with will be very slightly different replicas of the jobs we already have (Bard and Machinist anyone?). But we'll shove it down are throats and make sure we smile as we tell everyone, OMG THIS JOB IS SO FUCKING BADASS! SO GLAD I WAITED THIS LONG FOR THIS!

Considering in the Naoki's Room segment the second day of the JP fanfest he pretty confirmed Beastmaster won't be coming for a long time. He stated he'd like to do it as another pet job but then said something like in 10 years. So not until the distant future at best.

XIV's BLM isn't a Final Fantasy Franchise defining BLM, and neither will XIV's RDM be a full representation of RDM, or Bard a real Bard, SMN ever a real SMN, PLD a PLD, etc etc. Why the double standard.

sigh SMN backlash >.< (which frankly I see as as much a grievance of XIV's adherence to role trinity and combat meta as it is about SMN's identity).

but I am perfectly fine if BST's pet was as simple as functioning like a large Minion with an HP bar (as in: no pet aggro, no pet hitbox, no pet positioning), where damage to player is split 80% to 20% between player and pet, pet gets healed for 20% of the heal to the BST, and does damage with +enmity to the BST. The pet being the BST's Tank and DPS stances essentially.

I am not expecting/hoping for all pet focus jobs to be some Pokemon gameplay. It doesn't have to go to that extreme in order to pay homage to the essence of pet themed jobs.

This is an overly complicated design for no reason. You'd have them make complex systems in the game for a single job, a health link that's overall pointless and an enmity shift that's even more pointless. Why bother making a system for the pet to route enmity to the BST, instead of just having the BST do all the enmity and centralize it in a much simpler and easier way.

They don't have the best track record with pet jobs, and often times pet jobs are among the least played jobs. It's potentially a ton of extra work for just one job.

Personally I like pet classes. Back in Guild Wars 1 I had numerous pets: Ranger/Mesmer (wolf), Necromancer/Ranger (wolf), Mesmer/Ranger (feline). And in Guild Wars 2 I was taming numerous pets on my Ranger and using one as DPS. It's be fun to do the same here collecting numerous pets.

Well, one reason being I'd rather not see Shield Oath copy-pasted to the next Tank Job for the second time in a row.

It's complicated because you may still thinking of pets like Egi/Faerie. The above could have sounded like machine language, sorry, i was trying to be concise.

I said, 'like a minion' meaning they appear to be fighting, but the execution is actually coming from the player controlled BST. The pet doesn't really attack, the BST does. Having the 'Pet' summoned though gives you bonus AAs like SwOath stance.

There wouldn't be an enmity transfer because the pet doesn't have enmity, the pet isn't really there, it's a stance, a gate, a mechanic like Defiance or Darkside.

ShieldOath/Grit nullify 20% damage. The pet-as-a-stance does the same but not so easily, because the pet is actually just Defiance's +max HP bonus & HP recovered buffs in disguise. Instead of getting the 25% max bonus directly to your HP bar, it goes to the bottom of the party list where pets usually go (the faux pet), it then eats 20% of any damage you receive up until it dies.

While this is the approach I would prefer to BST, I meant more to give this as an example illustrating that we don't need literal pet controls and instruction to make a "pet job", (in this case, BST job is a Barrier tank - the pet being the barrier to manage), just make the pet a fundamental mechanic to whatever role responsibility the job has.

It should be nice to pay respects to the franchise history, but it also has to do so in a way that fits within this game. If they or we aren't willing to concede to that than yeah it will never happen.

I dont see a link between this job and Spiderman :( they should give to SMN other colored carbuncle but also some monsters like a little behemoth or whatever. We have seen a behemoth go out from a book no ? :p

Oh so you want to transform into a glowing chicken nugget, rather than summoning one :)

Some kind of a monk but with the berserker attitude of the WAR ? Could be fun to have some abilities that makes your character attack frenzy with loosing the abilitie to control it for some times (would require a good knowledge of the fights which could bring some challenge)
And we could have a LB that turns us into a fuzzy monster (would love to see this applied to Lala xD)

I know the proposed take on the Beastmaster Class is not in-line with a lot of previous FF portrayals of the class, but as others have said, many of the Jobs aren't like that currently in FFXIV due to the Role System. Another pet job wouldn't bring anything new or interesting to the table. Transformations, however, are something new, especially if the weapon is what determines the form, because it adds quite a bit of selection and customization through glamours.

A new spin on an old class, in short. Granted I'm pretty sure this isn't coming in 4.0, but I don't think I'd mind seeing it in the future either. Transformation seems to be the only untapped job design mechanic SE hasn't incorporated yet.

I'd like to see the player become the beast - a la Vincent Valentine from FF7.

I think the only except is Arcanist or Astrologian (which I am in the camp of describing it as a renamed Time Mage). So, Morpher does not seem out of the ordinary to me with the Spiderman hint. He is a man that is also a spider.

Funny story, but that's not actually quite correct either. Despite their name, Morpher doesn't transform into monsters at all, they just sort of appear to become posessed by them. FFTA was particularly lazy in that regard.

Arcanist is a job that's appeared other places and has done various different things such that it was kind of an available blank slate.

Astrologian is a mashup of Astrologer, Oracle, and Time Mage all wrapped up into one neat package. Some folks like to say AST is representative of Gambler as well but I think that'd maybe be a stretch.

Seems to me quite a few of the jobs and classes in FFXIV are combinations of other jobs/classes through the series. If they added BST and incorporated Morpher elements into it, well, it doesn't seem to be much of a stretch to me. Or heck, they could add BLU and give it beast-based transformations ala Morpher.

Some classes/jobs may share spells/abilities that we saw previously on other classes/jobs, but the core identity of the class/job is still intact. There is no current example of one class/job completely inheriting the mechanics and identity of another class/job.

Regardless, we are just arguing semantics here.

You forget a gunblade user. It's very likely for 5.0, due to the possibility of going to Garlemald.

I don't think we're tackling Garlemald until 6.0. In one of the letters, they stated the current set of expansions focus on the rebuilding of the Eorzean Alliance. 2.0 had Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, and Ul'dah. 3.0 was about Ishgard. 4.0 will be about Ala Mhigo. The letter also stated the storyline of the Eorzean Alliance being rebuilt wouldn't end until the end of 5.0/start of 6.0. Seems more likely 5.0 will have something to do with Sharlayan, given it'd be the last of the six city-states of Eorzea.

If ever there was going to be a bst job then XI version is probably the best example to draw from.
