When inspecting another player...

Are you completely conspicuous?

Or do you try to position yourself in a not-at-all-suspicious way, click on them and then run off with the character window while praying and hoping they didn't notice you?

i stay at place and look at it

There are two ways I do it:
1) In passing while running another way without stopping
2) Walking up to that person and poking them; If they look back at me, I press /welcome and run off. If they don't I only run off.

Both, actually. If it's someone I know, I'm pretty obvious about it. Even with strangers, if I know them to be socially very interactive.

If I don't want the other one to notice I am spying on them I stand as far away from them as possible so they don't notice me, or if it's close to an NPC or a retainer bell I just click on a few other people too in rapid succession, to make it seem as if I was just going through tab targets xD

Clicking on the ground to deselect your target is your friend.

I get as far away as possible so my target doesn't see me, and I start snooping.
And sometimes in reverse cases, I lock eye contact just to make the person who is inspecting me nervous.

My favorite is when people walk a few steps past you when checking you out, but stop and do the little look back over their shoulder like you're not gonna notice. Any time I catch someone looking at me, I always greet them with a bow, pat, or wave..

You'd be surprised how many people run off.

I try to do it on the sneak, if I get caught I /hug them.
If I catch someone looking at me I /throw.

Just put your mouse over the person and type

/c <mo>

I just creep up behind them and start breathing heavily.

I only inspect people in dungeons to see what gear they have and I do that while the tank is pulling trash. And make sure the person I'm inspecting is right ahead of me so my character won't turn their head. And then I deselect them right away.

If I'm the one tanking (which is rare, thankfully) then I'll avoid inspecting anyone at all cause the healer will know I'm checking people out. :p

Though out of dungeons I've actually stopped to stare at pretty kitties and took pics of them. And if they move before I can get a good shot I actually chase them and yell "Wait! Let me screenie you!!" surreptitiously saves screenshot posted on the first page...

Why are people nervous about inspecting other people? xD

I normally click on them and open their equipment window then swiftly click another NPC and pretends I am interacting with them, whether it is a shop/leve NPC or those with normal conversation, anyone will do.

If they notice you noticing them, just smile and wave then run off with your mount.
Or if you're into RP or something, put up that "/em shrieks a 'kyaaa~' because <t> noticed him/her." macro.

Looks to me like he's more into redheads.

I am using sometimes my mouseover focustarget macro and inspect target from my focus target.

I used to do this, now I just stare at them the whole time with no shame. :3

I hate clicking on other players by mistake, it makes me embarrassed and so does inspecting ;_;
I tend to run a bit away so when I do click them to inspect my head wont turn.
I do the same thing when I want to take creeper shots of other players who have a nice look.

It's funny when someone does it to me, or when they stand beside you and emote when you're set as AFK because I know they're taking random screenshots :P

When someone puts effort into making their character look nice but hate it when others look at them, why?

Walking around and see someone with nice glamour, I'd stop to take a look. If they have a beautiful character, I'll get even closer for a better view.

When playing as a lala, I walk RIGHT up to people (from the front) and stare up at them *have gotten both slapped and petted for this but w/e* As Roe, I usually play it off a little more, but If I see someone doing it to me, I'll usually poke em or type "/em sniffs <t> @_@;

LOL, the old 'examine taboo' strikes again, oh how I remember the endless complaints in FFXI about the "examines you" notification.

And if I see something I like, I do not hesitate to /tell asking nicelly what is the piece

I use to have a macro back in a FFXI when someone was inspecting me and then I would emote the hell out of them xD..

Now and Days as Tank/Healer I check everyone and Idc if they notice so its all good xD

In dungeons I just inspect everyone as a habit. I don't care I just inspect. In the open world though I don't walk up next to someone then stare xD. I do the "run away so head doesn't turn" and "run behind" inspect!

When not in a Duty, I admit I kind of instinctively use a sneaky look too. I know it does not make sense. I think it's just a real life attitude applied when I play my character. Because I would not blatantly stared at someone in real life like it looks when doing in the game, unless I did intent to initiate a reaction from who I'm looking at.

I peek at others carefully if i am curious abour their item level... But if someone has cool armor, or a hot body, I am very obvious about it! I'm sure they know people are looking, that's why they put their warrior in a bikini!

I don't know why it's embarrassing to check out other people's glamour. I tend to do it at a distance, give them their personal space and admire from afar. When I get inspected I just stand still and let them look at whatever they are looking at. Some people are very blatant and it looks funny for some reason.

I mostly inspect BLM in dungeon, to see their gear. No one should ever have a better gear than mine. :D

I press home key and stand right in front of them so I have a good view, and I watch for 5-10 seconds, and then zoom out or look at other ppl.
I am very obvious and idm them knowing, but when I got emoted once right after I felt like suddenly things got a lot more personal/real. xD

I move forward a little so my character stops looking in their direction :p.

I move as far as I can, click on them, inspect and then inmediatly click something next to them like an NPC or sign. So if they notice I'm looking at their direction, it's not them. In dungeons, as a healer it's easier because I gotta target them to heal 'em! muwhaha.

sounds like so many people here have social anxiety disorder. I just inspect and dont try to hide it, why do I need to hide it? Im not someone who inspects lots of people though just for the sake of being nosy, I usually have a reason when I do it.
