Talking to NPCs while mounted

Wouldn't that be convenient? :cool: Instead of having to dismount and remount everytime you talk to an NPC you can simply remain on your mount during the conversation. No need to play those mount/dismount animations (and sounds!) every single time you talk to someone.

If there is a problem with this due to handing over items and cutscenes, well, just dismount automatically when you need to hand over the items or the cutscene is about to start play. :p

It's a very small thing, but I feel like it would smoothen the mount feature AND improve the immersion - people talk to each other irl while on their bike, in their car or when riding a horse, so why can't we do the same in a fantasy game? ;)

I'm not against it but I would prefer if it was optional just like mount music.

Because I really want 30 fat chocobos covering an NPC I need to talk to.

I think it used to be worse? I remember that I could not even talk to the NPC unless I get off the chocobo manually.

Also, I can already barge into stores, taverns and CHURCHES on a smelly chocobo or a blood-thirsty behemoth without ANYONE batting an eye so its not like it would be particularily lore-breaking.

I don't see a reason why this would happen, considering most important NPC are in areas where you can't mount to begin with. Yes, there is Idyllshire and Mor Dhona, where you ALREADY CAN block someone's view with your fat chocobo in those areas if you want to, but I have yet to see it happen, at least to the point of the worst case scenario you mentioned. Also, I have played other mmorpgs with mount systems, and in those where you could talk to NPCs while on your mount, being in someone's way was never a problem - even in those with actual character collision!

But then again I'm pretty dumb so eh. :rolleyes:

I always thought it would be rude lore wise. And annoying. It's bad enough when a player stacks right on top of a NPC I'm trying to click.

Ah the nuances of such basic functions missing in a modern game. Sad that it was even a thing to exist that we needed to do that.

You probably didn't play at the beginning of 2.0 where the Waking Sands was open to everyone crowding a tiny room with their minions out with everyone hovering over Minfilia. I already have to deal with people melting into the Wood Wailer whenever I want to do the Palace of the Dead and I seen someone be AFK for days on their fat moogle mount. For starters, people crowding an NPC is easy to deal with. Just hold down your target filter button (I think the default on keyboard is X).
You'll click right through people and onto the NPC or other target, unless you've changed your filter to act differently.

However this isn't a case to make conversations applicable while mounting. No, I just wanted to help people in crowded areas. Speaking to people while mounted is incredibly rude. How you wish to play out your characters personality is one thing, but within the context of the rest of the world, you're mild mannered and polite. Let's not forget this!
