Do roegadyns ever celebrate a holiday?

Feels like every FFXIV holiday isn't celebrated by roegadyns in any of the art
Just want Yoshida to remember we're here

I was about to make a topic on this actually.
Almost every single holiday event (except for recent New Years9(Au Ra), Halloween(Au Ra) and Valentines day(Elezen<3) ) has a Miqo'te/Lalafell in the art/Main Quest NPC, although this years Moonfire faire has a Roegadyn, Elezen, and Female Highlander in it (which was amazing btw because Roe, Highlander, and Elezen are the least popular 3).

I assume Miqo'te/lalas are used due to the popularity of the races, but its honestly getting a bit too much for me. (There isn't even any Roegadyn Kids around, hell there are a few Roegadyn parents in the game with HYUR children....) With all this Miqo'te pandering shoved down our necks i'm starting to fear FFXIV will end up the same way Tera did (Elin Online).
(Also don't get me wrong I really don't hate Miqo'te or Lalalfell at all I just feel some of the unpopular race/genders should be represented a bit more)

I'm not expecting anything less from a game in which a race with demonic concept art gets turned into "moe" waifu material. If anything, I'd expect more female Au Ra in future promotion artworks - men, roegadyn, elezen and highlanders will most likely remain sidelined, because "not cute enough".

Roegadyn are usually used for Moonfire Faire, and somewhat Starlight Celebration for the "Santa" factor. But that's it from what I can tell. It's either Miqo'te, Hyur or Lalafell for the rest of the celebrations because of the reasons mentioned by Zojha.

Personally though, the only holiday I can excuse for having Lalafell in it is Little Ladies' Day due to the name.

I wonder. Maybe Roe's are too busy doing other things to actually celebrate? None of the Roegadyn NPC's seem to be anything other than Workaholics, so I can't really imagine them taking a day off.

This is because the only holiday Roegadyn celebrate is Subligarmas, and SE hasn't done an event for it yet.

Roegadyns would be perfect for Halloween since they're monster-like. Elezens look good as vampires as well. The Jack O'Lantern seems to be an Elezen as well.

I never did notice this discrimination against these races. Maybe since you just brought it up to light, it might change. Hopefully.

It's also noticeable that just a pretty small amount of those seasonal/holiday arts (maybe 2 at most?) have a male character as a "lead". Not that it bugs me that much but it would be nice to see a combo that's not Female Miqo'te Moon Keeper. At least make two variations of the same art or include more races and genders on it. The whole Waifu Simulator is starting to get old on this game.

While I understand that, at the same time I don't. It's pretty obvious that a lot of people like Roegadyns and Highlanders, but most people just don't/can't identify themselves or be comfortable enough being one, which doesn't mean they don't like to appreciate people who play Roes and Highlanders. Every race has it's appeal. I just think there's a misunderstood agreement that suggests that, because the majority plays Miqo and Lala, the other races are non-appealing or "ugly", which is not the case at all.

I play Miqo'te and occasionaly AuRa, but I love Roegadyns, Highlanders and Elezen. I simply can't play as one because of multiple reasons.
I wish SE to realize that this game isn't TERA and the reason to why certain races are less or more played is simply due to comfort and not because those races are loved/hated or have gamebreaking mechanics like small/bigger hitboxes.

Clearly. Part of what I was getting at is that certain races in the game are more easily aligned with cute. As much as I think Rogadyn (or Highlanders or Elezen) look awesome, they will never have what I would considered as 'cute' as a quality they possess. When you look at the NPCs involved in these events they are drawn from all races of Eorzea, yet the concept art frequently favors other races because of the visual appeal that they offer. It may not be fair, but it's fairly typical of the real world to lean on visual appeal.

Player comfort, or player preference? I think it's perfectly OK for people to talk of player preference, and because of the way SE designed FFXIV, none of the races have specific advantages over the others, meaning that it all comes down to player preference, or comfort (as you said) - a lot of which comes down to appearance - aka visual appeal. And it should be crystal clear that there is a wide range of what people consider visually appealing when you consider the huge range of appearances of our characters in FFXIV.

I'm the total opposite of you. I main an Elezen and have 2 Highlanders & 1 Roegadyn alts. I couldn't ever play as a cat, lizard or a midget. It's just that they don't appeal to me.

Because sex appeal.

You want larger races present on event posters.

I want short cute girls shown in heavy armor more often.

Simple fix: we trade spots for a while. The next event poster will have a big strong Roe woman front and center, and the next epic desktop wallpaper art will have a cute Miqo'te PLD (DRK would also do) front and center. Seems like a fair trade to me.

While indeed, this isn't TERA, it's still got Japan to consider first and foremost. What will sell more at an event? Kawaii uguu cat merch? Or manly mcbuff stronk Roe stuff? I also get that westerners are paying customers too, but we aren't the highest priority either.

The apparent desire for "manly mcbuff stronk Roe stuff" instead of "Kawaii uguu cat merch" from male players in the west is somewhat counter intuitive to me. Oh well.

To be fair, I don't think it's just a Japanese thing. The "waifu races" dominate every region by an incredibly large margin. Any art and screenshots on the subreddit for this game consists almost entirely of miqo'te and au ra. Roegadyn are probably way more common in the West than in Japan, but they're still far from what I would call popular.

While I do think SE is mainly giving players just what they want, I'm still somewhat convinced (I say this kinda joking, but also kinda serious) that they just aren't big fans of the race themselves.

Wow.. I always thought that, "Oh its always a Miqo'te lol" but now I see it and realize it almost WAS always a Miqo'te. And that's sad.. Even in our new Christmas event we have yet another Miqo'te in the art. And in the last art. Big and in the front. The spotlight.

I think the Lala in Little Ladies' Day was put in because the Lala is literally a little lady. I can't think of a reason why the Miqo'tes are all over. It wouldn't hurt to have a different race..

I think they stick with Miqo'tes and Lalafells because they have larger eyes than the other races.

The point is that the female mi'qote is still front and center while the other races are sidelined

Which is unfortunately how it's going to be for whatever reason. Especially if SE don't make a Roegadyn (male or female or both) the 'main character' of the event.

Same. I made the frequent observation, but didn't realize how bad it was until this topic.

It would be nice to not only see more females of other races front and center for a change, but the males of races as well.

Welcoming us to Ishgard with a single Elezen barely noticeable in the picture. The most populous race there. Should've been front and center, but cat and lizard girls take the spot. Shameful! Racism is real!

We once had a lodestone survey on that and it was pretty much the same thing across both regions with only minimal differences. It was the same survey that also showed that male Xaela are loads and bounds more popular than male Raen. Either way, it's very likely the preferences between JP and West are not actually much different as far as races are concerned.

I imagine part of it has to do with the popularity of the race more than anything. Miqo'te are much easier to work easier into art and tend to look the friendliest in comparison. Female Roe on the other hand tend to look distinctly unfriendly from what I've seen, so perhaps that's part of it? I never really noticed or was bothered by it really.

Feels so bad when the cute races are constantly pampered and the more elegant/mature races are left to rot.

I'm mad.

Honestly, everyone saying they "love" elezen/roe/highlanders but they play a catgirl/(f)au ra/lala aren't helping the devs see these races are liked (and I don't actually belive that you love those races like you say, sorry). They're most likely looking at player race data, seeing which are (un)popular and making decisions based on that. Saying you like a race is one thing, but the action of being one sends the message you do to the devs.

(as an aside, my two most played characters are a female highlander and male duskwight)

Personally, I don't really like most of the races we have available. ^^; Roe look too antisocial and aggressive for me, Hyur are too... normal, I've never been a fan of elves, except Legolas because badass, and I don't really like lalas, too short.

For a while, society made me feel that loving Lalafells made me a pedophile. Out of shame, I used Fantasia... numerous times. But then I went back to my old Lalafell form for a number of reasons:

1) Possibly the biggest one, I love to RP, and changing my character's form makes RPing pretty darn hard unless I can come up with a reason for why the change happened. If I were to fork over the extra bucks for a name change along with the Fantasia, it'd be easier to keep RPing. I've already written a story for my character, so it's hard to play a different race under his name.

2) Related to 1), I don't want to fork over the extra bucks for a name change. This makes things all kinds of awkward between me and people who have me on their friend lists. They either stop talking to me (seriously, what's with that?) or they take me off their friend list (seriously, I don't get it... over a race change?). So on top of 1), I'm treated differently based on what race/gender I am. The last time I was a female Miqo'te, I was invisible. But when I was a male Miqo'te, I had people making weird sexual advances toward me. Yet, when I was a female Lalafell, a couple of people started asking me if I was a dude IRL. Yet when I'm a male Lalafell (my normal form), I'm just nothing but a teddy bear. SOCIETY, YOU ARE WEIRD!

3) Still going back to the whole RP thing, I don't want my character to disappear. I gave him an archetype personality that I absolutely love, and I don't feel like I can pull it off as any other race. I tried, and it was just awkward.

So I say that I love Roegadyns, yet I don't play one. Well, I do once in a while. I have a Roegadyn alt. But, you know, this game isn't very alt friendly, and the idea of doing all that crap again makes me want to go back to my main. Because even if I do find the time and drive to start leveling my alt, she'll never have as much stuff as my main does. She won't have the same emotes, she won't have the same outfits, and she won't have the same achievements.

It's not sad. It's called business. It has nothing to with undermining a certain race. People want cute waifus more. The company just simply caters to the greater dominator. Which happens to be Miqo'te.

The top image is all characters created which includes bots. That's why male Hyur is so high. The second image is active players. This chart here shows that female Miqo'te and female Au Ra are the most picked races among active players.

Down with the waifu races! XD

Seriously though why don't more people love Roe's? We're the cuddliest!!
