Macro for PLD and DRK to free up a spot. PS3/PS4 users.

Hey all \o Some of you may know that you can go to the control config and set L3 or R3 to execute Macro's 98 or 99.

So what should you use this for? Well for me I use it to change my Tank stances for PLD and DRK. Which in turns free's up 1 slot for DRk and 2 for my PLD.
I've been using this in end game raids and it never fails for me so if you fancy freeing up a spot on your hotbar then feel free to try this.

First set your L3/R3 to trigger macro 98 or 99.

Then go to the macro list and go to 98 or 99 and enter

/ac Grit
/ac Grit
/ac Shield Oath
/ac Shield Oath
/ac sword Oath
/ac sword Oath

Why 2 lines of the same thing? Well cases where it might jump a line.
Why all the tank stances on 1 macro? to save space and you aint gonna pop sword Oath as a DRK............are you?

Me I have mine on 99 and R3 so when ever I press R3 I trigger my stances.

But what about L3? For L3 I like to keep it as a lock on so I haven't done anything with that but for those people who like to use L3 as a Macro also here is another idea.

L3 triger macro 98

/ac sword oath
/ac sword oath
/ac deliverance
/ac deliverance
/ac Darkside
/ac Darkside

R3 Trigger Macro 99
/ac shield Oath
/ac shield Oath
/ac Defiance
/ac defiance
/ac grit
/ac grit


So L3 can be for your DPS stances and R3 for Tank stances.

These are just ideas so feel free to mix and match what you like.

Personally I 0 problems when it comes to space and I play on PS4. and having something like this will simply annoy me when I tank, because if the macro doesn't go off then you have to spam 1 button till it goes off, which you could use that time to just press your tank stance/dps stance on/off. However if it works for you then by all means use it but I honestly can't see what issues you running into with regards to space on your cross bar.

I have Assist set to L3 and a "Smart" Sprint/Mount* macro set to R3. If it works for you, then great! Personally I'm a fan of Gateway macro combos. These macros move you to a hotbar that has the real skill queuing action instead of trying to fight the GCD with a macro. This saves space and you don't lose any effeciency if you set it up right.

With what you're doing though, I would suggest you stagger and extend it to:

This gives the macro more time to check for Sword Oath if you press it too early and it doesn't punish Darkside with the framerate reading of each skill before, because its no longer as far down.

Fun fact: You don't have to quote both sides of a multi-worded action. As long as the quote is placed before the first word of the skill, it will look for both words

works the same as
/ac "Sword Oath"


If you wanna do it this way, go for it, just don't let macros get in the way of functionality.

***"Smart" Sprint/Mount* Macro for R3***

/ac Sprint <t>
/mount "Primary Mount" [Place your main mount here]
/mount "Secondary Mount" [If the company Chocobo is your main mount place a Secondary Mount here, for when your choco is stabled. If it is not your main mount you do not need this line.]
/ac Sprint


What this does is:
It lets you Sprint towards something without attempting to mount if you target anything, even yourself.
It will have you mount if Sprint is on CD or if you're not targeting anything.
It will summon your chocobo companion as a mount instead of your default, so you don't get an error while he is summoned for combat. [This was removed with a QoL change sometime ago]
It will also summon your backup mount when your chocobo is stabled, if he is your default mount.
Finally, Sprint is repeated at the end so that if you are In a place where your mount is forbidden and you aren't targeting anything, it will have you Sprint.

Personally I prefer R3 set to execute Macro 99 and that macro is simply one line.

/target <f>

all those fights where bosses keep jumping or transitioning and messing up your targets. no problem just hit R3 regardless of camera angle.

<f> is focussed target by the way

I don't really like having skill macros, so I just set slot 99 as a /chotbar change, and put another on that hotbar that will bring me back to my main hotbar, that has pretty much eliminated any problems with hotbar space for me.

Thats why I put 2 lines, I never had any issues with this and it always triggers with 1 push. Saying that though my internet connection is good so I don't know if that has to do anything with how macros work.

And pushing it too early, I don't know what you mean, like pushing it then realising oh shoot too soon? If so then I aint that noobish :p

I don't understand why it's freeing up a slot on your DRK? Do you have Shield Oath and Sword Oath accessible when you play DRK? With my weapon drawn, I have access to 2 crossbars and an extended crossbar which displays only skills for whatever job I'm on. If I switch jobs then all the skills on those crossbars change accordingly.

When I sheath my weapon I have access to open world buttons, like teleport, mounts and gearsets.

The only macro I use so far is Salted Earth macro on target.

Because the actions on L3/R3 doesn't change when your changing jobs since it's triggering a marco not a hotbar.

Because the actions on L3/R3 doesn't change when your changing jobs since it's triggering a marco not a hotbar.

As for the Slated Earth yeah I have that Macro too but also one without a macro in case the AOE placement needs to be specific.

i just target myself and place me where i want my salted earth, when i want it at a specific place. no space for extra actions on my crossbar...

Really? I have a ton of space, got like 8 spare still.

this will place salted earth on your target, or if you don't have a target or are mid action it will bring up the targeting circle instead, giving you a way to place it on your target or manually place it instead. I use this for every skill like it.

Slightly more on topic, I don't see the use in the stance macro, since the hotbars for each class aren't shared.

But they can be be thought. You can change from a PLD to DRK and still have PLD actions on the hotbar.
