Possible Solution To Terrestrial Mount Flying?

Right now in FFXIV we have an issue with worrying about which mount will fly and how.

How will a bear fly?
How will a lion fly?
How will a drake fly?

Then I thought of something. What if we went through a questline of some kind.. and as a reward it gave us some sort of magic spell or glamour (imp-style) that instantly changed the terrestrial mount we are using to a flying one? Think like Lust, Rage, and Resolution pomanders in Palace of the Dead.

Give all terrestrial mounts a mount hotbar and an action for every flying mount so players may select what they please.

Granted you'll have to press one button to fly but it's not a big deal. And press the button again when you want the original mount.

With this idea in mind, we could have water mounts and not worry about how the Bomb Palanquin or Ifrit Horse will fly. Or 3.0 bird mounts <.<


So many mounts I wish we could have but can't because thinking of a way to fly would be too hard.

I want a tiger mount. I want a crocodile mount. That lion from PotD(not that white thing I want THAT). Heck gimme a Dhalmel mount too. Give me the whole Safari ecosystem as a mount.

EDIT: I'm not talking attaching wings or jetback. I'm talking about a button that would change your bear to a Kirin or something whatever you choose. Like the Pomander of Lust in PotD.

Not a fix, it's an improvement. I don't use any of my ground-only mounts, and that's kind of depressing. I understand you from a logical standpoint, but I miss my goobbue!

Well if they created a system like this we could have any mount ever and not have to worry about how to make it fly/swim.

What's broken is the ability to make more ground mounts and it be fair.

I'll see the aforementioned balloons and raise you jet thrusters strapped/taped to that which nature did not design to fly.

Suddenly I have an image of propellers on the goobue's head when it flies....... or waving its arms frantically...

Speaking of propeller, actually had an idea for a mechanical spider like mount that when flying would extend all legs (Think almost like those Yarzons) and spin like a propeller. xD

Noooo guys you are getting it wrong lol.

I mean the glamour will change your current mount to a NEW one.

What's the point then if I already have the Kirin mount? If I'm wanting to use the Warbear as a mount, I'm expecting a flying Warbear, not a Kirin.

-saves dev resources by not having the need to make any new animations.
-Players can freely think of any mount they want without worrying about how it would fly or maybe swim
-You can switch it with a press of a button
-Don't have to deal with silly stuff like the tortoise

It's still pointless because we can summon the other mount directly, who would summon warbear just to press a button to summon kirin when kirin can be summoned directly?

Because you have to drop off the mount and cast another one and then take off.

I get what people are saying but we have the drake, elbst, goobue, lion, bear, panther, 8 ponies, and 3 war horses and all we can think of is something crazy like a jetpack or helicopter arms.

Right now the Devs are only creating mounts that can fly. When they don't have to. We'll probably never get the tiger or anything nice because they have to think on how it will fly. When they don't need to!

Now who said Stormbrood needed to have flying? You got your flying expac' in Heavensward. They could go back to making you all dirt dwellers if they really wanted to. Your flying mounts can walk on the ground, and you can't fly in ARR anyway.

Which is where Ala Mhigo is, might I remind you. And they're all dirt dwellers...

Shame they confirmed there would be flying in the fanfest though.

I would actually wanna see the threads of people taking a shit fit over not being able to fly in Stormbrood. The forum would be even more childish and toxic than it already is, lmao.

Dark Knight mount is a war panther, not a a drake.

They dont necessarily -need- to make the terrestial mounts be able to fly, they just need to give us a reason to actually use them.

The simplest thing I can think of for this: Speed up ground movement on terrestrial mounts.
Right now, Terrestrial mounts move at a slightly sped up pace when on the ground. Flying mounts move at that same speed when walking, but move much faster when flying. So if they're the same thing when on the ground, honestly there's no point in ever using a Terrestrial mount again since you're basically getting choosing a mount that cant do as much as flying mounts.

They should have it where Terrestrial mounts (mounts that cannot fly at all) move at the flying speed when on the ground. Mounts that can fly will move at the current mount walking speed when walking on the ground, but retain their increased speed when flying.

That way theres a reason for both. Going a short distance and dont want to bother flying? use a Terrestrial mount. Going from one side of the zone to the other? jump on your flying mount. That way they each have a strength, instead of flying mounts being immediately superior.

Some of us really like the ground mounts we have even if they can't fly and would prefer running around on them.

Precisely my point. I like my drake mount because it's a ground mount. I wouldnt like it anymore if it had some outrageous new form of flight.

But I'd be happy if I could keep it in my hotbar and switch to say.. my sanuwa instantly then poof back to drake when on the ground.

The point of the person you were quoting was that she wanted the ability to instantly transition from a flying mount to a favorite ground mount so we don't feel penalized by having to stop, hop off, and summon a new one. An idea I fully support.

There's no penalization, they are just different types of mounts, hotkey both and done. If you really enjoy ground mounts you'd be pushing for a way to make them fly, not this, this fixes nothing, we'll still be airborne most of the time and without our favorite mounts.

Just give them lots of chipotle and a lighter. Flying bears and lions everywhere.

I know what we can do for goobue, it could inflate itself like a balloon and float through the air:)
No weird propellers needed

For others like war bear I think a better solution is to let them jump very high in the stormblood/HW areas and make them run faster than flying mounts can fly. If they can jump to most heights then not being able to fly won't be a bad thing for them.



Anyone? Super jumps for the ground mounts? And faster moving speed?

That's the issue we have now. There's not really a way to make them fly. Unless you want to use the suggestions here? But they have to be jokes..

Seriously, how would a drake fly? An elbst? It takes way too much effort to try and think of something.

I understand your point but it'd be much better to need only one hotbar slot instead of two.

dismount -> mount -> fly -> dismount -> mount

could be changed to

mount -> change -> fly -> change

I would rather a whimsical idea like the Adamantoise than an option to change to a different mount. Gives XIV a bit more character. :)

I also like the "joke" ideas, balloon on the bear all the way.

I also like the idea to give ground mounts faster running speed so they have some advantage to match the flyers and a reason to use them.
