New race idea. SQUIRREL!

We've got cats and dragons, but we're sorely missing an option for an extra floofy tail. Why not have a new race based off squirrels?

But Au Ra aren't dragon people.

The curved horns and beautifully patterned scales that characterize the Au Ra oft give rise to speculation that this Hyur-like race native to the Far Eastern continent of Othard are, in fact, the progeny of dragons. This, however, has long been disputed, with scholars citing several distinct differences in the two races as evidence of decidedly dissimilar roots—the first and foremost being the enhanced hearing and spatial recognition granted by an Au Ra's cranial projections (traits not attributed to draconian horns), and the second being the gross disproportion of body mass between Auri males and females (again, a trait widely unseen in dragons).

They are just a Hyur-like race with a skin condition + horns/tail. In other words, a Human with horns(ears) and a tail.

To be fair, that just says that it's disputed, not that they aren't or can't be dragons. When I designed Bahamut I definitely designed her to be more draconic than lizardy, as much as I could with my limited options anyway.

Wow. There's a squirrel hero? My initial idea had been something based off Makoto for a frame of reference.

Personally my brain goes to Makoto Nanaya first, Squirrel Girl second.

Both are cute and have a super-floofy tail though. Would be cool to see such characters running around Eorzea.

I'm for it. Floofy cat tail is best cat tail and no one uses it :c

That is true and I can't deny that.
I do however like the original concept and the lore that the Au Ra was connected to Succubuses and/or demons. Then later on they were connected with Dragons. And now it's not even sure if they have connections with dragons either. The Au Ra are just, Au Ra, no known background. Just like how they were suddenly added to the game and the gameworld was like "they have always been here, nothing strange about them."
I can imagine that it must be hard to implement something big as a whole new race into an already existing game with a history already written. I just can't stop thinking about how it must've been living in that world. The next day you wake up there's a whole new race wandering around and you're not even worried because it's *always* been there.

-hehe- I know, I think too much. I don't even RP so why should I bother? ^^

Getting back on topic, we don't have any treetop cities like Solace, and that makes me sad. :c A squirrel race could be the perfect opportunity to have an unusual hub city, like one built into a huge tree, or a small Grove of very large trees, with varying levels! I'm aware for the next expansion we're going to a desert, but perhaps the next expansion?

closest tail we had to that so far is the Blm pvp gear. I think ilvl 120 or something, but it was a wolf like tail.
