The Black Boar Gate

A while ago, I noticed that a certain gate in Gridania I'd never thought about before.

So what information is there about the Black Boar Gate? I'm very curious about why this gate is noted on the map despite having no real significance as of yet and hardly any information about it.

Maybe it leads to another part of the shroud, but it's currently inaccessible due to the Calamity?

Just as well, this gate led nowhere prior to the calamity. My guess is that it will lead to a passage through or around Xelphatol to the north and into Gyr Abania. Please look forward to it!

It does, it's the old gate to West Shroud which is inaccessable after the calamity, I believe it was open in 1.0 but my memory of that game is clouded still it was hard to really map Gridania at 10 frames per second. After the game killed fried my new 300 dollar pc I never installed it again till it was on the PS3 and stable.

This is incorrect - the Black Boar Gate was completely closed in 1.0 as well (as Truehavik mentioned). The only two entrances into the city in 1.0 were just the Blue Badger and White Wolf gates as they are now, although they were accessed from the Shroud differently (the White Wolf Gate was not closed til you reached a certain level and did not require you to have to speak to the gate guard to enter and exit in 1.0, you just walked through it, and both gates required travelling for ages along long bridges from the Central Shroud into the city proper).

Also the Yellow Serpent Gate (that leads in ARR out to the North Shroud) did not exist in 1.0 either, that location was actually the entrance to the old instanced Market Ward in 1.0 as well as the headquarters of the Ashcrown Consortium, another special instanced area that was only used for a couple of main scenario quests back in 1.0 (both of which were removed in ARR).

The Black Boar Gate has always been closed and locked even in 1.0, so what and where it leads to is anyone's guess (I would have thought it would have given access to the Lavender Beds but instead they just had a ferry take you to that instead when the residential areas were opened and the Black Boar Gate remains unused to this day).

For that matter, the Red Otter Gate also remains unused but still listed on the map, another gate that has never been accessable either (the speculation back in 1.0 is that it was meant to be a ferry dock, but for whatever reason that was never implemented).

The Lavender Beds seem to be southeast of Gridania, judging from their placement on the area map - and there's an unusable gate leading south from East Shroud (between the paths to Central and South) that is probably intended to connect to the long "path to nowhere" in the Lavender Beds.

It seems strange to have these locked off places in the centre of familiar territory. I wonder how they'd explain why it was locked off if they ever decided to open it? What kind of horrors could lurk beyond it to need an eternally locked gate all this time?

The "Red Otter gate" looks like it might be intended to mark the airship landing.

It's been locked off since 1.x. Just a meme at this point.

Nope. West Shroud was south of North Shroud, which is accessed by Gridania's western gate.

It's south of the Carpenter's Guild, and it's a floodgate rather than the normal sort you can walk through. I tried to take a screenshot of it in gpose from the Carpenter's Guild and Carline Canopy, but either it's out of sight from all the places we can walk to, or it's part of the walkways under the huge water wheel and I just can't see how it's a gate.
