Why so much Determination and no Crit?

What's with all the new gear? Stats are IMHO kindof sucky. Am I missing something? I lost most of my crit and ss and replaced it with Determination and/or parry/accuracy are they preparing us for something?
I am keeping some of the pieces just because I would rather have the old stats and sacrificing ilvl for the sake of IMHO better stats.
What am I missing here?

Same. I don't even want most of the tome gear because it's just nothing but Parry. I've been using HQ crafted gear instead and melding it.

reminds me of the good old 2.x days all over again. While I can't complain anymore after the 3.4 patch, but prior to that, my dps would have more accuracy than a tank and it's not even needed. I did mix and match with crafted, raids, tomes, and lower ilvl items a bit as well as having to meld the higher materia's to get close with people that are wearing the full tome stone gear. However now with this patch, I lost most of the accuracy and it's exchanged by det/crit, very happy about that, but I am pretty sure with 3.45 I'll end up with stats that are absolute useless. Please look forward to it.

I am hoping the re-tool Parry for Stormblood. It would be nice to have GOOD defensive secondary stats that are meaningful while maintaining the flavor of "Tank". I would much rather be using gear with Parry if it were useful.

And yes, new tank gear is ??? as far as itemization/stats go.

Gives creator gear purpose until the new mhachi raid.

Mix of raid gear and tomestone gear, it is hard to keep my crit as high as it was in 3.2-3.3. It is just how it is sometimes. Hurts a lot on MCH.

As a blm sub... this disappoints me. *cough ss missing from various gear cough*

Conversely, it's been pretty good stat wise for SMN :) Finally not a ridiculous amount of spell speed and ramped up the crit!

I do wish this game had better itemization though, where everyone could just farm for the stats they want - rather than being subject to these random decisions.

A stat swap system would not go awry in this game, I agree. It was one of my favorite things from Diablo 3.

GOGO Horizontal progression content!!!

Seriously, FF is always about farming to maximize your particular character regardless of online or console/offline versions.

This system of nothing but vertical progression treadmill where everyone's character is the exact same couldn't feel more wrong being shoe horned into a FF title. I wish the team would acknowledge and correct this.

Much jobs are messed up these last patches. I find it really hard on blm for instance to get a proper set that you do not loose way too much spell speed, crit or if you do you end up with not enough acc
Parry on tank gear is just .....

I don't get it either. The mch gear stats and weapon seem poor. For some reason mch needs lots of skill speed?!

Scholars got screwed over with the most of the healer gear. It heavily favors White Mage and Astro, with the Det and Piety splattered about over Crit.

I'm guessing the new Mhachi raid will alleviate much of our woes.

Raid and you wouldn't have a problem with stats.

don't raid and you don't have to worry about secondary stats :p. I just put the highest ilvl whatsit in the proper slot and call it a day.

or don't play at all, and you don't have to worry even about ilvl.

Funny thing is all the Parry on that gear. Watch them make Parry epic after the expan and then they'll never add parry again lol.

INB4 Parry damages the mobs, restores HP of the tank, has a chance of taking Hallowed Ground, Holmgang and Living Dead off cooldown and ramdomly makes the tank invincible for 15 seconds.

And they they remove Parry from all the gear and never add it again.

Was it? I mean, I get that you could alter how you played based on other means, like materia or junction, but most FF titles didn't actually make stats matter that much. It was practically always down to highest damage weapon and highest def armor with a varying accessory. Even with things like materia in VII, it honestly just came down to relying heavily on physical damage materia or survival boost (HP%+). You could always choose to boost your magic, but it didn't mean much to the overall game when the clear winning stats were apparent, just like here. Games like FFT were very basic/vertical and down to wearing the best gear available for the job. XI was one of the few to branch out from that and actually affect your character to the core of gameplay.

Were there a significant majority of FF games that had meaningful customization to stat choice? From my own memory, I don't know of much besides XI. Even grid systems were only temporary choices since you could always elect to max them out.

Not entirely true. Some of the 270 pieces have terrible stats too. And don't even get me started on the stats of some of the 275 Alexandrian weapons. >.> I don't even raid but some of those were disappointing, stat-wise.

Isn't the new machi raid going to be i260 while at the same time we'll be able to get scripture gear to i270?
So why don't people just mix alexandrian (not savage) i250 gear with scripture gear?

Adding parry to scripture gear gives alexander (normal) gear purpose.

So it's not a random decision, it's intended
