We are getting Red Mage and Samurai. It's already happening.
I know Red Mage (Or some variation) is all but confirmed, but did they actually confirm Samurai? I don't recall seeing any actual teasers or dev comments on it.
Also @OP you won't be seeing any more classes, they're moving away from that. They realized after changing it in 2.0 that it was too restricting in new, fresh job creation.
No need for a petition, just wait for the other two fanfests first.
Samurai has the 2nd highest chance of being a new job in Stormblood, behind Red Mage (all but confirmed). It'll probably happen.
considering the most popular/requested jobs were;
THF, SAM (only really asked for in the west really), and RDM (mainly asked for by the JP)
With THF being the most asked for, we got ROG/NIN.
They said "Caster DPS" was the 2nd most asked for, but we never got that, other than MCH/BRD. (Musketeer being 5th in line, but barely asked for)
And SAM was replaced by DRK, and AST replaced Time Mage, which replaced RDM.
So just because people ask for it like crazy, doesnt mean we'll get it.
(Similar to how Yoshi asked what race, and everyone wanted a mammalian demi human, like viera, and Yoshi wanted straight up inhuman lizard people. Well, he settled on semi lizard people, because its what he wanted.)
A considerable number of people want SAM, but a lot of people have wanted SAM for a while, and that didn't stop it from getting cut from Heavensward for the DRK.
I don't need more weeaboo in my life, give me BLU instead.
I think SAM is likely for Stormblood but it will be interesting to see what role it fills cause Red Mage will almost certainly be a dps and adding multiple dps Jobs without adding a tank and healer are going to do horrible things to the dps queues.
I have to post an...
in here...Quote:
Obligatory Dancer request
XD
if we're only getting two jobs and with RDM more than likely being added.... I would rather see dancer as the second job.
I don't need Samurai, I would like Dancer...
I can't give exact citations. However, if you follow the interviews yoshi-p had, the rising event, there was some sort of podcast with koji talking about ascian prime and among other things(I skipped through) where he mentioned samurai. If you have to ask if we are - then that means you aren't even researching. Considering that Red Mage and Samurai are the top requested jobs they'd be foolish not to. Just wait for Tokyo fanfest.
I really don't want SAM but I don't know why. I mean I'm not against it, as people should get what they like if possible. But for some reason a SAM seems, idk, not exciting?
Probably because it doesnt sound like something with mechanics in name alone, it just sounds like a glamour for a basic melee.
(Similar to how I refused to play warriors back in the day, because they sounded too bland, and didnt think they could possibly have any depth. Partly to do with how a lot of FF games gave basic fighters no abilities, just basic attack.)
SAM's mechanics, if implemented, are unknown.
Once we learn more, excitement may come.
(Personally hoping for a mitigation DPS, who fights from the front, inside of cleaves, similar to how BLM takes a few hits with mitigation)
We are most likely getting 2 new dps jobs
Speak for yourself, I want dancer! haha
Yea that would not be very smart if they only added two DPS. The queues would be horrible and we already have plenty of DPS. Adding one of each is the best way to keep queues relatively balanced.
Being a SMN, be careful what you wish for. You may just get it..just not to your liking. What can I say, I do have fun with the job though...
There would be a long time waiting for roulettes that's for sure. Though adding all 3 last time didn't work out so well so looks like we may be stuck with two. In which case, a new tank would fill in the gap fine temporarily, but ultimately not change things. Healer they struggled with getting AST running. I wonder, if it's worth to add in another tank? Or is it possible for them to balance in another healer? I think DD'ing jobs are an easier spot to fill with the current gameplay. Guess you could make SAM a Tank...
I would love a Samurai that uses Draw Out techniques like in Final Fantasy Tactics.
B E A S T M A S T E R
I'm throwing my hat in for dancer as there's an actual precedence for them in the 14 canon, as we see Ala Mihgan Battle Dancers in 1.x.
Plus I just flat out want it more than Sam
Perhaps SE will only add two jobs in this upcoming expansion. But I think they might try something different rather than disregard a certain role in the next upcoming expansion. Perhaps they might consider adding a "Role Selection System" aka talent trees for certain jobs and expand certain jobs to new roles little by little. It makes sense for their new cross-role system coming in 4.0, what I see them doing is adding the highly popular samurai/red mage as the first jobs to use this "Role Selection System" then expanding it to certain jobs that fit the criteria. such as: (WAR,DRK,DRG,MNK,etc.)
Visual illustration:
4.0 Role Selection System
-Red Mage - (DPS/HEALER) (Role/Cross Skills/Traits): Determined by the highest attribute (so for example at level 30 if you equip healer gear and put all your attribute points into MND your traits/role/Cross Skills would change to healer ones; however abilities do not get replace rather adjusted to function for the new role.) (Visa versa would happen if you put points into DEX and equip DEX gear.)
-Samurai- (DPS/TANK)
4.1-4.5
-Warrior (DPS) (STR Gear/STR Attribute)
-Dark Knight (DPS) (STR Gear/STR Attribute)
-Dragoon (Tank) (Tank Gear/VIT Attribute)
-Monk (Tank) (DEX Gear/DEX Attribute)
-Bard (Healer) (MND Gear/MND Attribute)
-Machinist (Healer) (MND Gear/MND Attribute)
This system would basically make the jobs that are considered hybrids able to use this new role selection system; however, this system isn't for all the jobs specialist like white mage and black mage would remain with their only role; however, they would be the best at their roles being slightly better than the hybrids.

Is that a katana I see?
Samurais are played out, I would like to see some other more original DPS

I know we usually don't take on the jobs of villains but if we get sam with that revolver sheath I will lose my shit.
Any job idea can be made interesting if the devs want it to be. It all depends on the execution. Samurai actually has a good chance for comming now. Yoshie-P wanted to use it for HW but decided against putting in another japanese inspired job so close after ninja. But two years have passed, so the time is right.
FF series has so many others to pick from but in their MMOs its always the same classes
I mean... there's only been two MMOs. I'm not sure how you could have a hard-set precedent, especially since there's a fair deal of classes that aren't in FFXIV yet (and have problems with getting in due to mechanics - see: Blue Mage).
Besides, there's already two job classes in the game that aren't exactly recurring: Machinist (which, granted, is related to gunner, but they haven't exactly had a lot of appearances, either) and Astrologian - which has appeared an entire once before, in a singular story battle in Final Fantasy Tactics.
Well for starters Ninja could have been a "Spell Fencer" from Bravely Default, a dual wielding class that imbues elemental magic into their weapons.

Spell Fencers didn't dual-wield.
I mean. They could dual-wield. Because every job class could. They weren't famous for it, though - that would still be Ninja, who actually had Dual Wield with no drawbacks (normally it halved your P.Atk).
At this point, all you have left is sword magic, which...was in Final Fantasy XI as the Rune Knight. Among other games, of course.
