FFXIV Population Continually Rising - Server Queues

I'm sure since 1.19 people have undoubtly noticed the population boom with the implementation of chocobos and content.

Apparently, population is continuing on the rise, with Selbina now facing Login Queue's at peak hour play on a week day.

I for one am not complaining, as I like the thought of there being so many players to play with. After all, its called MMORPG for a reason.

A bigger player base could be contributed to WoW recently losing more than 800,000 subscribers since its expansion was released or simply that a lot of mmorpgs are becoming outdated.

FFXIV will continue to have a steady population with its extremely loyal fan base but will undoubtedly decrease with its soon to be Subscription, Guild Wars II (Most likely Late December), SWTOR (Confirmed for Late December) and Diablo 3 (Mid January 2012), but will come back strong with PS3 release, future updates and 2.0 .

Whilst many may shudder at the repercussions of full servers for the future, (Lag, Long Queue wait and World NM), I dont feel like it will be an issue, given the server improvements and other server options to be implemented in the future.

Whilst there are apparently a couple of "ghost" like servers remain, its clear that FFXIV is far from dead.

I needs server merge!

I agree.. Besaid's server seems, to be rising with new players.. I always see shout of people needing a ls. lik seriously everyday :P

I'm seeing a lot of new players on Fabul. Mostly Japanese. And my LS just had a boost of new and returning membership. ^^

I'm on lindblum, it's pretty lively. I thought it was the 2nd highest populated server about a year ago. Not sure about now.

I've never had a wait cue since like 5 minutes after this game launched. You might (possibly) be able to loosely infer* that Lindblum isn't on top of the pop. size list because I personally have not experienced a cue ever post 1.18.

*The rationale behind the inference being that wait cues are vaguely indicative of population size in that they are a symptom associated with size. If you aren't experiencing them ever then possibly, either everyone logs in at spread out times so it never occurs, or there aren't enough people around to cause a cue to form.

Although this is nice to see that wait cues are back. Potentially things are on the up-and-up.

I noticed this too on Mysidia -- what's funny is cynics were trying to say it's because the whole server crashed and too many people were trying to log back in at once, not because of a population increase.

I haven't seen a log in que since alpha, but I eheard there was one during 1.18 for a few people. So far all I have really noticed on my server is that half the people that I used to see after 1.19 came out are now gone and the place seems like a ghost town.

I have seen them on Mysidia straight after 1.18 and 1.19, but not since but there does seem to be more people on recently, I do agree we will see a population drop when subs come in, but I could see loads more coming back after 2.0.

This is very nice to see. As a pioneer of the game, I plan to see it all the way through and it is nice to see that I am not alone in that effort. Hopefully the populations will stay up and there will be plenty of folks to play with in the time coming.

Sorry for OT, but GuildWars 2 is not a December release, they plan on starting closed beta in December. Also no subscription required so might not even be direct competition except for player time. So far it's only SWTOR in the MMO genre that's clashing with the subscription switch date, and opinions on it are somewhat mixed among the MMO audience.

Saronia hasn't gotten that much bigger since 1.19 - there's a bit of a population increase, but not to a point where there's server queues. In fact, the population is small enough where I can still recognize a handful of player's names often enough while going all over Eozorea.

At this point I think a lot of smaller population servers should be merged, as a previous poster pointed out - or as you call them "ghost servers". Heck, at this point, I'd like for my small playing group of 3 players to be able to move our characters to a more populated server.

Sure has taken them forever and a day to release.

Mixed? Every single player that was playing this past beta test weekend (myself included) was sad to see the beta test weekend end. This is merely a personal anecdote, before the weekend test servers shut down on Sunday, people asked others if they would play the game and/or come back to it when December rolls around. Almost every single one of them said yes. I'm 50/50 on dropping FFXIV for SWTOR until 2.0 comes out myself, as SWTOR pretty much has all the MMO tropes and content that XIV does not have and will not have until patches are implemented, whether it's a few months to a year down the line. It's also very solo to lowman friendly with a great and class based quest storyline that is fully voiced and that is accessible at the very start of the game (as opposed to in 'spurts' every 4-10 levels).

Could you please point me to to these reviews stating otherwise?

There are no reviews, it's not released yet. Just follow the smoke trails left by the fanboys who ravaged any preview or first look that even dared to mention its game design is somewhat similar to WoW. 't was a nasty sight indeed.

I never meant to indicate in any way that it's not a good game, just that there are quite a few voices out there who would have loved it if Bioware took just a few more risks to break new ground.
And comparing it to XIV is ... not saying much.

And sorry, we're derailing even more now.
