Hi. I'm Neptune. I've been on these boards since they first opened and they were filled with pleas about the game and suggestions to make it better. I've made a series of threads about how this game should be designed with the 97% of players in mind who quit after the first few weeks. Here's a few of them:

I feel strongly that this game should appeal to the masses and I'm really proud of Yoshi-P for taking the game in that direction, but beyond the attention to these masses of absent players, shouldn't there be something left for those of us who own FFXIV?
I play a Conjurer if you didn't know. It's why I bought the game on launch day. I've always been excited about casting elemental magic and being a Black Mage type character ever since I read about Conjurers on the FINAL FANTASY XIV website well over a year ago. I want to know, has the dev team lost sight of all those people that were excited for this game's launch? We bought this game because we were excited about the Armoury system and its unique classes.
I'm trying to figure out why I still play a game that puts this announcement on the front page of its website:
"The Armoury system ... has been deemed unnecessarily complicated..."
"... the above changes will render all gains associated with the shield skill (levels and EXP) invalid."
I see. So when I made it a point to level my Sentinel class up to 50 to gain its very useful abilities such as Aegis Boon II, I am supposed to just log onto my favorite website, The Lodestone, so the dev team can tell me that all gains are invalid. Furthermore the dev team leaves it up to the Lodestone to inform me that one of my classes is getting wiped from the game along with most of my abilities.
One of the first questions asked to Yoshi-P was about our characters getting wiped. Many have said they would quit if that happened and I always thought the mere idea of it was crazy talk. With the recent announcement of changes to class actions we are getting as close as we have ever gotten to a wipe. My character's level may never be reset to 1, but what about my playstyle, my abilities, my tactics, my fun, my experience (not points) and least of all but most relevant, my effort?
Let me back up and say that I understand the game needs work and I hope it turns out better than ever. If you are still grasping to see the point of my post, it's about what happened to customer service? Am I, as a purchaser of FINAL FANTASY XIV, supposed to log onto the Lodestone, or even worse, into the game, to find out that most of what I worked hard to attain is wiped from the game? Is it too much to ask for consideration from the dev team? Would it be all right if someone posted to say we're aware this may cause some major disappointment but we are going to make up for it with X and Y? Am I really supposed to just log on and read an anonymous post about how I'm getting screwed and conclude that FFXIV is the most awesome game ever and continue to be the only one out of any gamer I know that even gives a damn about this game?
Dev Team: I purchased FFXIV to make a Conjurer character and cast offensive elemental magic in this videogame for fun. Along the way I leveled my Sentinel class to cap and regularly used its abilities to defend myself in challenging solo battles with my over 40 different abilities. Now you've announced that you're taking away most of my actions, changing my role to White Mage, "rendering" my Sentinel class "invalid", and you haven't said one word about offsetting the changes to my character. And you know what, all I want is some directness and honesty. If you've been too busy working at a breakneck pace and you don't realize that people like me are out there and care about our characters and about our experiences in this videogame so far, just post and say you're out of answers and you're sorry. I know you can think of something to make up for it, but I don't know if you even care.

Also the Con->Whm thing was exceedingly obvious from the moment they gave conjurer Curaga and Rebirth. You've had plenty of time (and STILL have time) to get Thaumaturge ready for Black Mage if you want to explode things that badly.

I understand what your say in your post I really do. But I hate to tell you this but your not really not helping yourself or anyone else with this post.
I'm sure you and many others feel cheated out of everything that you have done up to this point in the game. But you have to understand that when you went out and picked up this game you were buying another persons vision of what this game was and now you have Y-P and his vision of this game is way different.
In the end your just going to have to go with the flow of where Y-P is taking this game or find another one that you will enjoy. -

I believe there was a large percentile on the players poll that were fine with the Rules of Eorzea undergoing changes and alterations. Everything in your post applies to this concept.
Now for my opinion. Shield Skills are mainly associated with characters that are tanking. THM used to be able to tank fairly well, but it just doesn't make the cut anymore. As for CNJ, the shield skills are a waste since you'd want all of your elemental skills equiped, +curaga +rebirth +raise II.. etc.
Shield Skills are now associated with GLA because it was the main tanking class from the start. I believe that was the best fit for that class anyways. Besides, I don't think mages should be able to equip as many shields as they currently have available. Perhaps CNJ since it is now becoming a White Mage, but as for THM, even though THM + Shield was a huge concept, shouldn't be able to equip shields. I really do not like the idea of a Black Mage decked out in full AF have a wooden square shield equipped. Though, if that is how things are going to be, I don't mind too much, it won't destroy the game for me.
Anyways, point being, the rules of Eorzea are changing, and the majority of people have stated that they are fine with the changes. -

the game was already stated to undergo a complete revamp.
it had been said for months upon months that classes would change and skill would also be completely revamped and switched from one class to the other.
also, i feel you take this way too seriously to put this sort of effort into your post. dont want to feel cheated in time spent? spend less time. -

If you didnt get your sent to lvl 50 while lvling ur conj then you fail. Dont act like you worked hard to lvl it. LOL if you did

God, honestly, the game doesn't have Loyalty Mode, it's not worth playing. Everything else is just icing on the cake at this point. Why doesn't SE care about their players?

i agree though with alot of what op is saying, is probably why i won't stay for the full year ...i'll come around and try the new dungeons and stuff but that's bout it. pretty tired of it myself, level all classes and they add pl'ing to the extreme ...to guild marks and they get removed ...pretty much anything we do now till the relaunch of 2.0 is really pointless ...i know mmo's are just games but when u play for a year and almost everything u'v done is non existent then it's just dumb. on top of that mmo's aren't lasting more then a year these days b4 people run off to the "next" mmo. and weather everyone comes back or not,i not sure this game will last a year after 2.0 ...and that is if it even launches in time as well. i can imagine that mmo's coming out by then will be far more superior to boot. ...but i still think the game has large potentials... i just don't have the patients nor want to give them the money to find out. -

Sounds like you had your share of fun. Like 60 hours perhaps? 40? Given that a single player game costs about 60 bucks right now, you might as well go. I think you have completed the price/time ratio for a brand new game (given that you haven't paid any subscription fees). This of course if you really don't like the direction the game is going (and going fast!).
It might sound rude. But that's how things are. The game was launched in a incomplete state. People were not happy and wanted changes. Drastic ones. So we got them. Most of the changes have come with some kind of feedback from players. Heck, this was just posted a few minutes ago:

If SE listens to everyone, they would be going back and forth even with the smaller concepts. There is a reason they are doing the thing they are and nobody really has a right to judge anything until it has been implemented in game. Besides, you HAVE spent time and effort leveling a class, but did you PAY for any of the months you were playing the game?

Actually I did vote against drastic changes, but I was seriously on the fence. Like the early reviewers, I found a lot to like about the game in the sense of promising game concepts.
I noticed most of the replies so far have been simple get with it type posts. It's easy to completely miss the point of what someone is saying because you attach more strongly to my dissatisfaction than my message, which is that drastic changes don't have to be accompanied by a lack of consideration. Even if you somehow feel that the lack of consideration doesn't affect you, just consider yourself blissfully ignorant and realize that your feelings aren't representative of everybody. -

The reason people voted yes so strongly, was to fix the problems they complained about, not the problems they didn't complain about.
If they decided to delete everyone's character the day before 2.0, are you STILL going to return to; "Well, you DID vote for drastic changes."
(Deletion being done, solely to change all races into 1 new one, with a new world/story, and no levels/exp, or classes. Pure example of how this relates.) -

How about, if your Sentinel class is wiped, a free Gladiator class to make up for it. How about if your class is wiped or changed extensively, we will make up for it by giving you a choice that's meaningful. The devs should spend their time fixing bugs and adding new content, not providing compensation that temporarily inconveniences a small group of people.
Folks these days. They just want instant gratification. I work for my achievements, and plan for any contingency, while still having 48 hour weekly work shifts and family.
If you really gave a hang about being a competent mage, you would have lvl 50 in both anyways.
But I digress.
The devs know what they are doing, and in the end the game will be better off, whether you believe it, or wish to be the victim. -

I'm not surprised in the slightest, but I think several of you think of the dev team as an incredible chef that lives in your house and cooks you exotic meals every day, of which you eat with no questions asked. To me the dev team is more like a talented group of artists that I support, but in return I require an experience that is enjoyable, and in the case of an online game, I expect for my progress not to be taken away.
