Are we ever going to be allowed to stay inside our houses after a duty?

So many people hang around in the gardens of their houses but if you go inside it's a ghost town.

I think the main reason for this is because if you queue into a duty, when you get out it kicks you outside, people just get bored of constantly having to zone back in.

The main reason I've noticed this now is because SE went to all the trouble of making lobbies in all the apartments... but they're completely barren cause everyone just stays outside in front of the place.

Can you change it so we don't get kicked out of houses when we get out of a duty so people will actually go into their houses?

It used to be that way then they ran into a issue where you would end up stuck in furniture or on top of a cube that is suppose to be your house when you came back. Instead of fixing it they just pop you outside, much easier for them.

As I recall it actually has to do with instancing/server space or something like that. They commented on this a while ago, but basically you shouldn't hold your breath OP.

Pretty much this.

You're essentially instancing from an instance. It would become a major drag on system resources.

Not really the real reason was posted just one post above this. Another case of why fix it when we can patchwork it?

I'd personally love it if this came back and maybe a log out cut scene like inns have :D

This is the cause - it was explained in a past Letter from the Producer LIVE summary (found here) why you appear outside the house after logging back in/returning from a duty if you departed inside, and it's to do with how the game renders and stores the house/room data:

So based on that at least, it shows that the development team are aware that players want to reappear back in their room/house when logging back in, but there are technical hurdles that they have to overcome first (which they are unsure exactly how to do so). Considering that information was from two years ago, I think it's probably something that has been dropped to the bottom of the pile sadly.

What I don't understand is why, if houses are set up similarly to inn rooms in terms of how they are stored when you're logged out or elsewhere in the game, then why is it possible to log in or return from a duty and be in your inn room, but not in your house. The explanation totally falls apart around that single fact, and the lack of consistency makes it hard to accept that it's really a fundamental problem with the game and just not fixable at this time (Or that it would take too many resources to fix and therefore has needed to be shoved so far to the back burner that it appears to have fallen off and gotten stuck in the gap between the wall and the back of the stove).

Maybe they can pick it up again now that apartments have made housing more widely accessible, so you're less likely to have people pitching tantrums on the forums that they're working on other aspects of the feature because person X on ridiculously overcrowded server Y doesn't have a house yet?

I imagine because all the items in the inn room are static-- the position data resides in your game files. With your house, all of the positional data for your furniture is on the server.

As for ending up stuck in furniture, that had a different fix: If you run against a piece of furniture, it will only remain solid for a second or two. If you continue to run up against it longer than that, it becomes permeable and you can run right through it. This prevents it from trapping you.

There was an issue where if your house was demolished or you lost access to it while you were away (more common while logged out for an extended period if you'd been in your FC's house) that they needed somewhere they could place you when you came back, but I still don't see why they didn't just set the rule: *if* your former position is no longer available, *then* have you return just outside it, rather than have everyone always return outside the house they'd been in. It seems a ridiculous over-use of a fix for a relatively rare problem. They could have limited the fix to cases where the problem exists.

Not if they simply remembered your position and re-created the house/apt interior instance when you returned. It's not as though they'd need to keep the house instance active while you're not there.

In that case, we should let the devs know that we care about this issue enough to raise it further up in the priority list ;)
