An Avatar's Influence on Player Behaviour (Questionnaire)

Hey guys!

I've seen this been done before here on the forums and I was hoping to get some help from you all for my university research paper. It's based on avatars and how they affect player behaviour, mannerisms and such. Since FFXIV is my MMO of choice, I'd really like some responses from FFXIV players. Oh and i think there is a mistake in 13a), it refers to the question regarding our avatar "age" instead of the way we see it ;)

Done. Mine was pretty simple lol. My character's name is the same as my real name so my persona is pretty much the same. Honestly, I kept my same first name because i really didn't have any decent alter ego names

I did your survey. It was fun. I never thought about some of your questions personally until I read them. Very interesting.

Not until filling the questionnaire that I realized how I identify myself---a bit unexpected that I thought about my internal gender for quite a while lol

Responded. I think it's more tailored towards RPers though, well, some of the questions anyway. I think I took like 5 minutes answering the character's age question whereas everything else took a minute or less. I'd never thought about age before now. But I do my consider my character rather young.

Same, I never really thought about their age. Early twenties seemed right.

Kinda embarrassed to admit that, but I'm not even a rper but have a complete backstory for my character, hence why the age answer was so... easy...

done it! Thanks! even though I don't rpuch, I like having a backstory to my character that nails down her personality. It makes her mean more knowing she has more than just a title to her.

I expected more to do with how you present yourself in game - like I act differently on my male characters than I do on my female characters (not always in big ways, but definitely small ones)

And I will definitely be updating this topic with my findings when I've complied it all. This is an entry level research paper, hence the lack of depth to some of it, but I can definitely expand on it from this point in my further studies.

Yep, I too thought he/she would ask more questions about the behavior of the player when playing as a certain gender and how playing X or Y gender will influence their behavior when playing with other players. As an example, I noticed that when I play a female avatar or a class/role that is more supportive towards others, I tend to have a different persona, then when I play a male avatar with an aggressive role, like dps. I do not do it on purpose, its just something that happens.

My question to you and this is more about an inner question so it is more for auto-evaluation since it is personal:

are you both heterosexual or other sexual orientation? I believe that could be one aspects that would influence on how you see yourself in game while playing a specific role. Another thing that influence you is how your nuclear family interacted. subconsciously, children catch this behavior, and we might even no notice it but start doing that same interaction. Another aspect is how do you really feel as an anonymous person behaving like that and another is how you would feel if you do those roles but interacting with other real people face to face instead of the screen to screen.
