So, here's what I believe about Alisae.
After she gets hit with Flare from the BLM. She Summons her blade. Which looks like a Rapier. I feel she is a Red Mage. Thoughts? Or maybe an entirely new job designed from the ground up specifically for 14?

More like Runic Knight or Mystic Knight. Red Mages doesn't summon magic blades.
guess we get rdm in 5.0.
it could mean anything but ill wager shes showing off a new job. She hinted at kearning new abilities while travelling the world
however, using her book may just be her own unique way of having that particular weapon type at her disposal
plus she doesnt really strike me as someone who would wield a heavy physical weapon, but a weightless aetherial one? sure
nerding out that reminds me of mordenkainens sword from dnd, where a mage could summon a blade to melee with
This was my first thought, as well. ("Is it Red Mage? Nah, something seems amiss... Maybe Rune Fencer or something?") But, then again, we've got the DRK tank and the bow BRD and the faerie SCH and a bunch of not-swords with sword names. They're clearly not afraid to break with tradition if they think they can fork it in a way that fits within XIV. Alisaie did say she seeks to master all fields of magick; a jack of all trades and a master of none is RDM's MO... but it could be pretty much anything, lol.
RDM did have Mystic/Rune Knight abilities in Final Fantasy Dimensions, so it is possible. It's not unusual for them to combine a few aspects of several classic jobs and merge them into either a new job or an old one. So I would say that we will be getting a RDM but it might have Spell Blade abilities.
Glad someone else made this thread because I sure wanted to.
Honestly, although I hope its a new job, I hope it has NOTHING to do with a book. Magic sword? Awesome. Magic and Melee? Sounds cool. But another book being involved? We have enough books. Honestly watching the cutscene in general made me meh because I watched 3 people pull out books in a weapon fight lol.
Red Mage, Rune Fencer, or Mystic Knight.
As shown with Dark Knight, they're not afraid to take liberties with franchise staples.
Screamed RDM to me personally. I highly doubt it'll be the Red Mage of ages past though, because yeah--- bow bards, fairy scholars and the likeQuote:
Alisaie: There is no one path, as some are given to say, and there is wisdom in exploring every school of magic, as there is in exploration of all things...
Heh, now imagine if your Warrior of Light, like mine, did the fight on Scholar. If anything the Warriors of Darkness were the odd ones out! They brought weapons to a book fight!
if theres going to be a red mage class it would be kind of dumb with how the class system is since there are specific job roles for every class and red mage is a jack of all trades. sorry people stop dreaming of red mage the combat system does not support it.
I dunno - Since Raubahn at the latest, I've kinda stopped trying to push NPCs into classes or jobs. Pretty sure the only rule they follow is the rule of cool.
So...until further notice, I crack the blade up to fancy arcanima.
She probably is just a red Mage using an Aether weapon, just like our weapons from the palace of the dead.
Runic - used by celes was a magic/interuption ability that drew any spell casted into her blade and resulted in her gaining mo instead of it hitting its intended target(even cure spells i think) so drawing your aether into alisailes blade is really reminiscent of that only as an offensive.
Either way im a little hyped, it looks like it would be fun for a dps or tank to utilize.
also they can fit rdm anywhere they want, and only have to make it look like a rdm and have a couple signature spells or moves.
I mean the entire community here has made valid points on how it would work as any of the 3 roles, or even switchable roles before signing up.
If it ends up being mystic knight/rune fencer/etc I will be so happy. Far and away one of my favorite jobs but always so rare to find in FFs in comparison to classics like black mage, red mage, dragoon, etc so it will be a nice surprise to get it by the second expansion as opposed to the... last? like FFXI did.
Exactly... Honestly, aside from the lack of a sword, White Mage is already a Red Mage... It has Cure and Stone... It can heal and nuke...
I would hope for a DPS Red Mage though, it can be similar to Summoner in some regards (which has Physick and Resurrect, not that they're that useful), and a MP/TP hybrid DPS would be unique enough I think... Bonus points if they work the elemental wheel into its rotation... I'd love something like Bravely Seconds magic crafting system, give the Job XIs basic elemental DoTs (Burn/Drown/etc.) and then give it a series of skills that alter their effects... Would be great to hit it with Ice, then Fire which melts the Ice, making Water and meaning Lightning gets a bonus...
Blue Mage is another Job that frequently gets hit with "How would that even work with the role system?", but I'd say just make it a tank... Tanks already have the best of all three, they have DPS stances/rotations, they have fairly reasonable self-healing (even group healing, for Paladin)... Blue Magic also suits a counter-based tank well, I think... Can have things like White Wind for the same reasons Paladin has Clemency and Divine Veil...
Red Mage seems plausible, though I want to believe Rune Fencer (or just Rune Mage, a combination of Rune Fencer and Red Mage) would be exclusive to XIV.
I also recalled, she mainly auto attack. Knowing SE, this was their way of saying. Yes, this is a new job, but we ain't showing no abilities.
