New feature becomes tool for trolls

First off, I have to say I love the new /countdown feature. It's a nice addition to the game. That being said, I just got out of a 24 man dungeon where a dps was in a bit of a hurry, and decided to do a 10 sec countdown as soon as they arrived at each boss, and predictably the bosses would be pulled/aggroed before everyone was there. This abuse of the function should be addressed, preferably without voting to dismiss the person in question. Any ideas on what kind of controls could be put on countdown to prevent abuse and early pulls?

Yeah, I encountered this earlier too running Nidhogg normal. I'd say it would be good if the countdown was restricted to the tanks when you're not on a pre-made party. If you're on a pre-made you're free to do whatever.

Edit: Another thing that could be done is tie the countdown to a ready check. Only if the ready check passes the countdown begins.

While your complaint is valid, I would say if everyone isn't there or ready, just ignore the countdown

Well Third....that would require, in this case, 24 people to simultaneously possess common sense....which is a pretty tall order for DF lol

I made a thread about this very problem earlier today and included my suggestion on how to mostly avoid/fix it. It's not perfect but it would stop stuff like from happening as often as it does.

For those wondering: While in duty finder,make the countdown feature available only to the tanks of the party. This would cut down on the number of potential trolls who could abuse this to troll.

The feature tells who did the countdown, and. Most of the time it comes after a ready check.

Only 2/3 need common sense and stand outside of the barrier until ready check. The other 1/3 can die during the early pull.

My solution would be to make it doable only during combat. To tell people how many seconds they have to stand on a platform or hide behind a rock before they die.

Exactly,most ppl won't pay attention to who did the countdown and just rush in anyway thinking it was a tank that did it. It's not until a wipe or 2 that ppl starting wondering what is going on and then try and find who is doing it.This just wastes time for all involved and sours the moods of many.

This can be mostly avoided by only letting tanks activate the countdown. Because even if everyone is "ready",including the healers,is it the tank who should initiate the fight,unless the dps or healer fancy themselves tanks too.

If someone starts a ridiculous timer and half the raid gets locked out, just kick and/or report that person after the wipe. Discourage the behavior at the source and it will naturally decline.

Although I wouldn't say no to restricting it to someone with a blue icon next to their name either...

NOT go just because the count down started. If you know it's a bad countdown, just step back across the line and watch the shitstorm. You'll be fine. The fact that people need this to be idiot-proof is really sad, actually. Lmao.

Putting it much more delicately: While I understand your frustration, OP- there are already solutions in game. There isn't anything about the countdown that forces people to run in when it hits zero. It tells you who started it and if you casually glance at the party list and notice that that person is not a tank, hold back. You can also type a quick warning in party chat if you feel some people may still run in. Like: "Don't run in unless a tank goes first or you'll eat floor." And if people still run in, there is virtually nothing that can be done to save those people, lol. Echoing KaitlanKela above, just kick the offender if they pull and move on. ^^

They should have displayed the job of the person initiating the countdown. This way if its iniated too early by an impatient DPS or healer, people know that guy can F right off and they need to stay put and wait for the others to arrive.


Personally countdowns should only be considered valid if initiated by the main Tank.


If said main Tank is the one being a jerk by doing it early, then let him pull and die alone. He will surely wait for everyone next time.

Even if you don't go in because you know better,some ppl will always go in and the wipe will happen anyway,wasting time for all involved. While I understand when you say "just don't run in",some will go in and then everyone has to wait for the wipe to happen and then wait for the kick to happen. Why not avoid all of this if there is a way? Making the feature available only to tanks in duty finder would greatly reduce how often this can happen.

Not to defend this kind of behavior, but another solution is to, you know, stay on-task and at attention while doing a raid? It's not like these early pullers have some kind of magic shortcut that gets them to the arena faster. If they got there, anyone could get there. In the case of folks who've died and respawned, they need to be careful to wait at the shortcut until they see the message indicating that the next teleport space has been activated - if they do, they'll typically arrive AHEAD of most of the others in the raid.

While it's irritating when someone pulls a boss early (especially if they're not a tank), sometimes the number of people lagging behind has me seriously scratching my head. Did they go afk after the last boss, or something?

As a note, even in runs with trigger-happy players, I've noticed that if you post an alliance announcement indicating that a critical member (such as a tank or healer) had to step away for a moment, they'll usually hold back. They want to keep the run moving fast, and encourage folks who are chronically lagging behind to pay attention and keep their butt in gear - but even they understand that folks are unlikely to beat, say, Ozma, if one of the tanks is locked outside.

I agree. This tool should only be given to the tank

Just use the countdown function yourself, it'll ast if you want to cancel the current ongoing countdown.
Say yes. No more countdown. No more pull.

I think it would be better if they could combine the two together. As healer I stay at the other side of the line until I am ready, so if I am not ready good luck :P

This feels like a non-issue, sure a DPS/Healer can troll and use it, yet it's so easy to tell who called for the countdown. if you feel the named person using the countdown is using it to troll, kick them for harassment, report them, etc.
