I can't zone in/out (or log in, log out) of personal housing. I'm always kicked outside. Is this a bug or working as intended?

Working as intended. This was actually changed to work this way, it wasn't always like that.
Yep, and it's been super annoying ever since.
I remember hearing something about instances or something.
It has been suggested many times to change this and allow us to log in, inside our homes (many times by me alone ..not to mention many others.)
I dislike that feature as much as having to choose "yes" every time I want to enter or exit (which is just as silly) The game already determines if you are allowed to enter or not before even reaching the door or the "entrance" does not show..so please allow us to simply click the door >>animation to open and enter smoothly not the yes yes yes all the time ughhh
(I realize it IS minor, but its the little things left for so long that turn into true pet peeves :) )
I believe this may be a precautionary measure to ensure you don't log into a house that has been demolished or one that you no longer have permission to access. Of course, in theory, it should be possible to have those as separate checks and still let you log into the house itself under normal circumstances, but the current way is probably just easier to implement.
It was made that way because they changed the interior of a house to be an instanced zone. Prior to that it was not so you would remain inside the house.
It was changed because it was putting people "outside" of the house while inside its instance due to issues with Z-Position changes (usually due to being on furniture when you zone into an instance). You would end up in a black void on top of the outside of your house while inside the instance and would essentially be standing on a wooden cube. People could target you but you would be on the "roof" of the inside of the instance and this was their band-aid fix that they just left to be permanent because of lazy coding.
Their official word on why this change was made was this:
In preparation for the addition of residential wards, as well as individual player housing, players who join a duty or log out from within an estate hall will now return to the estate entrance when logging in or returning from an instance.
* This adjustment will improve the management of housing, and facilitate the addition of plots and estate halls.

Though this was implemented shortly after the above mentioned bug started popping up a lot of people agreed it was simply a lazy way of fixing the issue.
