New title for the next expansion, perhaps?
Sure sounds like it...
Remember the poem from the recent Rising event?
Quote:
Neath pillars of whorling strife,
founders the dross of despair.
O'er pillars of eddying life,
surge high the gales of prayer.
Flux and flow do the gyres,
joined by the crystal in thy keep.
Thy adamant spear bores steeps entire,
thy argent blade cleaves oceans deep.
I'm not an English native, but that name sounds seriously nice to me *bouncy*. We'll find out soon, hopefully.
Meh... not a fan of that name I prefer Heavensward compared to this.
Hmmm, not sure. I'm sure it'll grow on me though...
Needs an 'r' to me.
STORMBROOD, coming to skies near you!
My expansion hype is intensifyingggggg
I think this is it.
I like it well enough. Hopefully the expression will be both tumultuous and bloody!
I like it. It has a very "shite's-about-to-hit-the-enchanted-fan" vibe.
sound enjoyable what coming next
I'm not a fan. It reeks of trying too hard to be edgy in a game that rarely let's "shite-hit-the-fan" in a meaningful and lasting way.
The title doesn't make too much sense, I think. At least Heavensward is similar to "Upward" as its a direction, but "Stormblood?" Maybe Bloodstorm would make more sense.
I guess we'll have to wait and see till 3.4 and beyond to see where the story is heading. So far we've got the Ala Mhigans being themselves and now they might have a leader to unite them. Then there's the Warriors of Darkness. And Garlemald just ... there.
A storm is brewing and one with a lot of bloodshed, it seems
yes it does make sense first heavensward meant to the moon and stormblood mean across the seas.
let take the risen before heavensward first there talk about upward which heavensward stormblood is and across the deserts
each risen has answer a question but also open up question each hint toward the next expansion
there talk about moon and across the desert we know warrior darkness was on the moon and we know that stormblood maybe across sea or across sea of sand
sometime a desert can be called a sea of sand
Not realy liking it, but I did not like Heavensward either and that name was likeable in time.
Uuuuh I'd love that :D
For several reasons.
Obviously because I'm a Maelstrom player and generally in love with the whole theme of wind as a synonym for freedom and a bringer of change.
When I read Stormblood, I don't think of bloodshed, I think of someone born with the power to bring change to..something.
Also, ofc, it makes me think of the sea.
And maybe Ixal. But preferably the sea xD
So I'm super exited because it gets my hopes up that we'll go to Othard instead of Ala Mhigo (which I was not very exited about, tbh).
And maybe we'll even get swimming if we have to cross the ocean <3
And underwater temples like in old FF games!
Aaaah man, now I'm way too hyped :o
Has almost a Norse ring to it.... I suddenly have an urge to become a viking kitty.
That wanted to go with Blood Ocean, but Dethklok already did that.
Though if you want a laugh. . . just pretend this is the theme to the next expansion

Well if the next xpac does have water/swimming and all that, the Maelstrom probably would be front and center if the GCs are helping to take back Ala Mhigo.
as will Raubahn Aldynn even though Raubahn Stormblood has nice ring to it
i wonder if Raubahn had give up his last name
To those saying Stormblood didn't make much sense, I am rather inclined to read it in the sense of blood = family, lineage, rather than literally. I think "Stormblood" may be referring to a person or a family, like a title of some kind.
It does sound like a title, much like Estinien Wyrmblood. So it would not surprise me if there was a person or organization with it. Kinda like Heaven's Ward being a pun of Heavensward.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was either the name of the Ala Mhigan resistance, or the masked dude in the 3.4 trailer who seems will be central to said resistance.
I love it. I hope it is a title. Remilia the Stormblood, I like the sound of that.
Well... We ARE getting a new GC Rank according to the producer letters, and if Stormblood has to do with Maelstrom titles, the other equivalent titles would be Serpentblood and Flameblood...
Thing is, 3.4 story hasn't even come out yet, which is where where the story starts building towards the next expansion. If that is the name of the expansion, it should make more sense after going through 3.4 and 3.5 story. My opinion of the name is pretty neutral, but I'm not quick to judge and I'm going to wait and see how it all pans out.
STORMBLOOD sounds nice and the ocean in the poem makes me believe we will see an aquatic world in the next expansion!...
Is there any source on this? I mean, SE registers names as trademarks all the time but it doesn't mean they ever actually do anything with them (remember they also registered the name 'Chrono Break' as a trademark years ago and similarly the fan community erupted thinking that it was 'proof' of a third Chrono game.... only to be bitterly disappointed when the anticipated third title was never announced and the name was never used at all.).
All I'm saying is, don't be so quick to assume that just because a name is trademarked that it automatically means that will be the 4.0 expansion title (it could be a whole new game un-releated to FFXIV for that matter).
For me Stormblood would be like the rage, the fury of the fights with the blood of many people spread on the ground, in the air, and in the sea.
It would be a carnage.
The only source was a japanese trademark bot on Twitter. Someone on Reddit also mentioned that it was registered in the same timeframe as the Heavensward mark -- right before Fanfest (give or take a week).
A friend of mine mentioned this previously, but I do believe since Rhalgr is affiliated with Ala Mhigo, and commands the element of lightning; that all signs point towards a relation of the two. Storm could represent Rhalgr, and blood could mean a conflict, or perhaps stand for a sense of relation between Rhalgr and the Ala Mhigans.
It will likely have a double meaning like Heavensward.
1. Heavensward: Towards the Heavens. All the sky related content, and the flying dragons, and floating islands. And Ishfard itself.
2. Heavens' Ward: Ward of the Heavens. The 12 guards of Archbishop Thordan that form the Knights of Round Summon. AKA: The final boss of 2.0
Most likely we are looking at an abstract concept relating to the general theme of the expansion and a person with a nice nickname. Like Daenerys Stormborn. Maybe it's the white guy with the mask.
I figure it will be something like:
Storm (as in the literal sense of weather) + Storm as in a siege on the battlefield "storming the castle" and
Blood (as in bloodshed) + blood as in one's relations, particularly with regard to the throne.
I can already see it...
PATCH 4.3 NOTES
-Blitzball has been added.
-5 new hairstyles have been added.
-New fish has been added to the aquarium.
-1 new dungeon has been added.
Please look forward to it.
Companies usually register trademarks because they plan on doing something with them (or to make sure others don't do something with them). For all we know, SE might have totally planned on doing a third title. Do you know how many games go halfway into development before they get canceled, without them working on it ever even getting announced to the public? It's A LOT.
Maybe they worked on it and realized it would be a flop. Maybe they just didn't want a competitor to make a cheap clone with the name. We'll never know. I'm just saying that registering a trademark very often does mean a game is being developed, just not that it actually gets released.
In the case of Stormblood, well. It could be just about anything, but the timing fits (just before Fanfest), the theme fits with the spoiler poem, and it also fits with the notion that in 2.0 Yoshi said they want a sky or sea expansion but will go for sky first because airships and all that are such a big part of the FF universe (so the second expansion being the sea themed one would make sense). But yeah, it's ofc just speculation^^
Then again, such speculation often turns out to be true, so...I'll just stay hyped for now ;)
Future generations will look back fondly on all the rest of the future FFXIV expansions:
Ragepunch
Bonefire
Zombiefang
Grimedge
Darklord
But they sort of lost all of us at Happysparkle.
