For the new healing class...

Please make a healing class that is only dedicated to healing/buffing/debuffing!!

AST is close, good job, so something along those lines, without the RNG.

(Plus I do not want to unlock other classes to play it, so AST was also a good job in terms of that!)

And no melee healer nonsense please. Only ranged, preferably very long range.

Only dedicated to healing/buffing/debuffing? As opposed to every other class in the game that has options to do damage?

A class with this restriction would not be viable in the MSQ. Without the ability to damage, the player using this class could never complete MSQ as it.

For balance purposes it's pretty much a given that the new healer will have to be competitive with SCH, the 'DPS healer'. Soooo I wouldn't get your hopes up.

3 things i want to ask the OP

1) rng in the ast... Did you really heal with it ? No rng involve, only card got that and it's minor because optionnal
2) no class unlock... If you play the ast without black mage and white mage up... How are you playing ? XD
3) what's the point of a ranged healer when we, as healer, should be as close as possible of melee range (auto attack, pack healing,...)

A pure healing class is unfeasible, given that classes need to have some form of dealing damage outside of auto-attacks to get solo quests done in a reasonable amount of time.

Debuffs might work if they deal damage (think like FFXIII's Saboteur role). Otherwise, I can't anticipate that anyone would want to pick it up as opposed to WHM or SCH, unless the debuffs increase damage dealt/reduce damage taken by a lot (enough to make up for the lack of damage), which risks making it so that they're seen as essential.

Well if it is a new class, this would be only unlocked at later stage. And every MSQ after this stage would have NPCs dedicated for this class to heal to complete it.

Such an obvious thread about not liking that in this game, you dps as a healer too. Too bad.

That sounds like a very bland and boring idea just to avoid the fact that a healer with 0 DPS options is horrible. If SE ever did make A non-DPS healer no one would want them in statics or extreme content unless their buffs and debuffs are hilariously overpowered.

A zero DPS healer also sounds incredibly boring to play in faceroll content. They'd also be unable to solo an undersized duty.

you need a few attack spells or youre sol out of all content besides raids, if the group would even take you...
you dont need the redundancy of whm's or blm's many spectacular stones or thunders, but you still need to be able to kill mobs besides auto attacking. Not giving them redundantly replacable skills like thunder or stone would give more slots for healing. but really,
what is your major point by stating this? what would you even put on top of the replacement skills for redundancy?

like are you saying you want them to have many buttons like mch that debuff, in replacement of skills that could damage? or you think itd be nifty to stand back and pop 10 weak cooldowns on the tank in toto=rak just cause it means youre a healer and youre-a healin'?

If only that could work. Maybe that would spare the forums of another thread complaining about healers not dpsing.

Having a healer that can't add dps is a really bad idea in a game where the other healers can add a substantial amount of DPS. Any necessary soloing aside, why would anyone ever invite that job to a group? You can't keep the group any more alive than the other healers except that they would add dps and you wouldn't. It would need some absurdly powerful team dps buffs.

im afraid theyll never end after the "str tanks are too squishy " and "WAR is out DPS'ing me" threads. It'll never end, cause the people that started it now have to deal with the consequence of what their complaints caused. You complained that you couldnt dps because tanks had to be healed all the time, well now you have to dps because they got 2x as many hp.

realistically they could just make all the debuff moves do damage, then give them some DoTs

Maybe they should disable cleric stance in duties.

And maybe for MSQ, if you use a healer, you can automatically skip the parts that require you to dps.

This sounds like they are going to implement Spectator Mode for duty, healer role only.

I have a feeling they're going to make Red Mage the new healer. Since they can use both WHM and BLM abilities in every FF game they're in, they will most likely have their own version of cleric stance. One that changes all their healing spells to attack spells, adding changing buffs to debuffs, etc. Meaning something that would give regen to an ally will do a DoT to an enemy, something that heals for a lot will become a burst spell, their largest AoE heal would become their version of Holy/Gravity/Flare, etc.

I know this is sarcasm, but if they disabled Cleric Stance in duties I would literally not play any healers in this game anymore. This game has nothing to offer for people who want a challenge with pure healing- the support options are an afterthought and the DPS spells are our primary contribution after any risk of death has been eliminated.

And I'm sure that disabling Cleric Stance would ruin queue times even more so for DPS players.

No I think he's actually not being sarcastic. He's the one that started a thread asking for the next healer to not have dps capabilities.

If that isn't sarcasm, he needs a different game to play. :P

I personally would love the opposite, a damage oriented healer like the chloromancer of Rift who depens on his damages to heal (using a mono or group stance that convert the damages on the mob into heal on the targets)
I find it refreshing and, considering healers are, in most cases, "supposed" to dps (according to other people), it could be pretty fun ^^

The main problem I have with Red Mage as a healer is that all of the healers are more or less Red Mages already (having a mix of attack and support magic) out of necessity (due to MSQs). The Cleric Stance alternative makes it sound better, though it seems pretty similar to what Cleric Stance already is (without the ability to toss out a "oh shit" heal if CS is still on cooldown...which, admittedly, is rather unlikely).

technically youre right, pretty much healers can deal respectible damage and heal, thats like 2/3 of a redmage right there, personally id like to see a job that reverses CS to boost its healing, but that idea seems far out in the woods, or sea of jade or beyond garlemald

Honestly as concept of healing i would see a healer that have dps skill that the more they're used the more his healing are boosted and on the opposite healing spell will boost dps, each will also reduce their own potency

To put it simply, the more this healer will heal the less it will be potent (+1% dps -1% heal stack up to 15)
Then once you reach 15 (or before as you see fit) you go in dps with a 15% potency decreasing the more you attack (same -1% dps and +1% heal for each spell)

In the end a healer requiring a good balance between dps and heal
The healing malus even at -15% make heal still potent to cure a tank

As i see it, red mage fit that concept

I think you would enjoy a more aggressive healer who relies on stacks gained from doing tons of damage in order to convert it to health. Energy Drain already does that for Scholar by draining blood from the enemy. Maybe the new healer could drain blood into an "Orb" that loses power over time, and have each healing spell enhanced by the amount you have in it. This would make them comparatively weaker for solo healing but much stronger as an off healer since they could basically recover the entire team's health if they were able to do a ton of damage before a big hit.

But... even if the concept is enjoyable, having a 3 skill gameplay is not my cup of Tea so...
I stay a FF14 fanatic for that matter (loads of skills to use)

I get your idea, but it won't work..
Basically, you'd naturally want to maximize the damage buff, right? nope, because any heal you do is a DPS loss by default, meaning it's useless to put any extra effort in getting the damage buff.. therefore, for the player the important thing is the healing debuff. Similarly, you'd have the same thing with damage.. only the debuff is important for you.. It'd just mean fighting a penalty, which isn't likely to be fun.

Get rid of the debuff part, and it might work a little, but I think it'd be a relatively passive system that hardly influences spell decisions.

I think if FFXIV let there be a 5th role in dungeons - we could play around more with the idea of having a 4th support role like DNC and Geomancer into the mix. Green Mage etc. As heals. Also other fan favorite classes for a support class.

Maybe if the OP's idea for a class had a pet of some kind?

Um...not really. Unless you actually liked main healing as a smn, cause there were those people in ffxi.

Even if the pet did the same damage as smn's pet if that was all the dps the job could do it wouldn't be smn at all.

If the pet was all the damage the healer could offer, of course it would need to be stronger than the Summoner pets. The Summoner pets aren't even worth half their combined damage. Healers, on the other hand, are like 70% (don't quote me on that) of a true DPS job's damage.

We need a Chemist healer that throws potion vials at the target to heal and poison vials for dps.

Using items seems pretty lame as a job design. I mean we already have potions as items. Wouldn't it be weird to also have them as abilities?

In that case it wouldn't be potion per se but more thing like ratfinx seringue is alex5

Boost vial and so to buff/damage/heal
And that would be really fun to play
