Greetings, adventurers.

Like a lot of you, I spend a ton of time thinking about what jobs and classes are coming next. Finally decided to plan out and design my proposed overhaul of the class/job system.

I have laid out my ideas on this site:

I'm down with giving the new jobs some base classes. I know they want to move away from the class system, but I want them to move closer to it!

I like the idea of branching classes like summoner and scholar, but there are problems that arise with the way skills work in relation to the jobs themselves.

The way the current system works is that the lvl 1-50 skills are for the arcanist class, and by extension, can be used for the jobs that branch off of that base class, summoner and scholar. With this in mind, it makes it hard to balance skills for classes and jobs alike, since they share them, and if the roles change, it makes it even harder to balance and maintain. I'm going to use your Lancer example with Valkyrie as a new job. You have to make skills especially for tanking and dps into the lancer class so that it will build into both. Much like Arcanist having skills for healing built into it so that Scholar has some things to work with. Without physik, and res built into arcanist, they'd have to put those on the actual acholar crystal, leading to less skills they have as they level up and progress.

Did you look at his Valkyrie skills, though? It would work great with the Lancer base class. Playing Valkyrie would still halfway feel like playing Lancer, but with a set of new, tank-focused abilities and weaponskills, including things like enmity-increasing combo finishers for existing Lancer combos & the passive enmity-increasing effects of Einherjar.

Vasquez definitely took class/job role mismatches into account, especially with the 3 brand-new classes and their 6 jobs.

Actually I'm not sure he did. He's done a great job theory crafting and creating interesting twists on new/old jobs and how they can branch but he appears to be pressing more into distinguishing the split than formulating it into a workable job. The best way I can explain this is falling into the trope of "Cool but Impractical". I've seen a lot of job ideas on here that do that. They don't take the time to flesh out the idea as a whole and build upon it.

I haven't read them all but take for example his Rune Knight idea, as a healer. While healing your allies with attack is interesting, it becomes impractical if you are in the "danger zone" 100% of the time, you need to be able to heal from range. And his Reverse skill, while a good idea might be a little hard to implement, but that is just a thought. Dancer also have no Raise skill a must for all healers. Valkyrie seems good but if you look closer he doesn't explain the "stacks" that you are supposed to accumulate, where do they come from?, no skill seems to grant them. Ideally a Tank/Off-Tank stance would grant those effects. And while Corsair seems like a nice split for Marauder, a Beast Tamer might fit the class skill set better.

However, despite a few issues here and there. I think what he is doing is a great idea. He's trying and thinking of new way to implement jobs from the old class system, which I like, XD. Plus he is making the new abilities/skills appear the way they do in game which helps immerse the viewers in the actual feel for the skills. Something I'd like to do but don't have Illustrator/Photoshop right now, T.T.

Vasquez, please keep at it, just remember to think of the job as a whole and how it will flow at each instance. Try not to add in too much to each skill, nor make it complicated to execute while performing the jobs mechanics. If ever you'd like some assistance or feedback feel free to ask and I would be happy to help, XD.

PS while most of the branches you made have some minor adjustments. I would look into Necromancer, the idea is solid, but having it branch of of BLM might be an issue based on the mechanics inherited from THM.

Nice job Vasquez! Another interesting job to play would be Puppetmaster! :D

If your goal was to completely and utterly invalidate the existence of the currently-implemented jobs while making the SCH/WAR balance issue look like a joke, you've succeeded admirably.

I did and no it wouldn't. Take a look at all the skills lancer already has, and giving a vast majority of those would create a huge disparity between all tanks. Blood for Blood and Invigorate are the main ones for sure. The other part to that is, like I stated before, the base job has to offer something to the role itself, and changing roles from class to job makes it tricky. Arcanist to Scholar is a prime example. Arcanist gets a healing skill at lvl 4, which isn't a dps skill, but its needed for scholar as a whole to survive. Lancer has nothing to give to valkyrie for tanking moves besides Keen Flurry, unless there was a drastic change to the class overall, changing skills to compliment its new tank role job branch. And on top of that, if we change to much and take away to many skills or change to many skills, Dragoon as a job suffer from the changes to its combos and skill set. This is the whole of what I'm trying to explain. OP's overall concept is great, I like the idea of branching jobs, but on the whole of it, the Class and Job system all together would need a huge rework to accomodate, and I don't think SE will go for that, but as he wants it, the only REAL way I can see this working is if the Class and Jobs attached to that class had different levels. Example: Lancer 30, Valkyrie 1. or Lancer 50, Dragoon 60. This way you could give them more skills to work with from 1-60 on the crystal, but then we start skill bloat and all that jazz, but I won't get into that..

In the case of Valkyrie, the immediate change as a level 30 VLK is the introduction of Einherjar, which, just by having them around, increase your enmity from all actions, similar to Shield Oath or Defiance, but without a defense boost. At level 30, and at levels synced below 30, you're right that, aside from this enmity tool, VLK doesn't really get anything that makes them a better tank compared to a level 30 Lancer or Dragoon.

Basically, I agree with your concern in both ways. I don't want to change anything drastic with Lancer as it might adversely affect Dragoon, but Lancer could probably use a tweak to keep VLK viable in lower level content. Thank you for you feedback.

It's good that you are taking others feedback in stride, XD. I know I made a list of Job Crafting notions that might help you in figuring out how to establish newer jobs. The biggest thing I would advise is not to go pastwhat we already know. Like level 60 and level 48 for traits, but creating new classes goes against the meta, so that might be a moot point, lol. The main pointis to have fun, but remember to consider the job as a whole. Be sure to look at the other jobs for ideas and "similar" skill sets and potencies.

Tweaked Thief a bit, too. Still reviewing Valkyrie and Time Mage.

Okay, seriously. Not every job needs Trick Attack, and no healer should ever be able to wholly nullify mechanics with a single button press on a 2-minute cooldown.

i had the page open and noticed something. i was able to select Thaumaturge to see their skills, and it looks like you replaced Surecast with Convert, which is fine, I guess, and you reordered a few of the other job exclusive skills.That is "okay" to do, but you need to make the new list for BLM as well then so that people are aware of what you were planning. This would apply to any Class/Job you do that to.

Hi, Eloah.

I was making several moves and changes yesterday. But I'm happy to say that, as of now, every single job and class is listed, along with cross-class abilities.

Regarding Sure Cast specifically, heh... I've destroyed it! It's one ability that I have never, ever used on Black Mage. It's been replaced with an AoE DoT called Poison, hearkening back to the FFT Black Mage days.

Also, I'm glad you're still looking at it! It's officially, basically, 'done' now, so I'd *love* to hear any opinions you or anyone else has on stuff.

This is... a lot of work for what unfortunately amounts to be a lot of useless ideas and suggestions.

Branching Jobs is pointless. There's a reason SE didn't go further with it after the situation with ACN > SMN/SCH and the balancing issues it brought up. As much as I have my gripes with the CC system, your overhauling of it here would be worse. Then I see stuff like this...
