Three years of RMT

Three years. THREE YEARS of daily gilseller /tell spam. Those "actions taken against rmt" notices seem meaningless, as we have been still resorting to setting ourselves on "busy", and/or filling up/deleting/making room on our blacklists.

There is still no easier option for us to report these sellers. Where is the "right-click to report" option, etc?

And why has this problem been so difficult for the company to resolve in the first place? Do IP traces. Issue legal warnings. Whatever it takes. Come on!

all it takes is a transfer fee and you could be rmt tells free, sad that Sarg still has these issues, havent gotten a single tell in like the 9 months ive been here since leaving Sargatanas. none. at all.

a easier option to report these sellers would be rly nice, like u said ^^

here on shiva I get a tell like 1-2x/monthly

well made a char on midgardsormr a few hours ago and it was like one a minute, sargatanas was probably close to about 1 every 2 min, sometimes 2-3 at the same time, lemme tell you i feel for you guys, i really do. It just isnt even right at this point why there isnt a right click option on tells, to mark as spam.

On Midgardsormr. Sometimes up to 3 RMT /tells in a minute.
At least one every 2-3 minutes.

It sounds like some servers hardly get any RMT /tells at all? Is there more development staff on the servers or something?

They should just have an anti-RMT quest in the beginning of the game and also disable /tells until level 5. Something that will never get seen, guess I have given up hope on this game.

Having everyone transfer their characters to a server that is so horrendously overpopulated it is impossible for anyone to make a character there, let alone RMT bots, is hardly a solution to the problem...

No, it's just that servers with high population are usually closed off for character creation, so Gilsellers can't make characters to annoy you with ;)
On Ragnarok, I haven't gotten an RMT tell in at least a year, and even before that it was like once a month. We do get the one that is /saying his ad in the starting city though.

But I know Ragnarok is the highest population server on the EU datacenter .-.
Been trying to create an alt for weeks now and it was just pretty much constantly closed off, with short openings in EU mornings.
Servers like Balmung don't even have that anymore, without a paid transfer it's impossible to get into so they are completely RMT-free.

Sadly, that means RMT and Botting is even MORE prevalent on low-population servers because that's where they all flock to instead.

Oh they still have plenty of bots trust me, I have alts on that server & see them all the time (hell even if you do a blanket search of Ul'dah you'll see a bunch of gibberish names in a fake FC queing up for WP, which is what they like to do.), they just don't advertise through tells cause its so hard for them to get back on there. They just silently go about making their gil & porting all over the place. No server is safe from RMT not even Balmung, they just don't have to deal with /tells. Doesn't seem like a solution to me, seems more like monkey hear no evil monkey see no evil.

I agree OP the RMT situation is out of hand, even XI wasn't this bad. Wish they would actually do something with the Task Force they say is working on it...

This weekend has been horrendous on Leviathan... I was getting them at the rate of one every ten seconds for a while. It's quieter during US gaming hours but during EU hours it can get oppressive.

They often use slight corruptions of the same set of names that are actual Leviathan players too. Those RMT based on player names have existed since I started playing in 2.2 - some are actually the same names that I blacklisted back then & removed 2 years later.

SE won't magically know who to ban if no one is telling them and everyone just blacklists those RMT spammers to not be bothered anymore without actually helping with the root of the problem :|
For characters that actually got reported, it may take several weeks for them to vanish until the next big banwave (although in my experience, different from botters that take a closer investigation, RMT spammers tend to get deleted in less than 20 min after reports).

What do you think? ;P Yes, I & many others have reported them numerous times but they keep reappearing after going silent for months. I've also reported the same gathering bot in Heavensward several times who is still to be seen at every unspoiled node.

There was also a botanist that I spotted on my first day in June 2014 near Bentbranch that didn't get banned until this spring. It was definitely a clear botter because they used speed hacks & logged 24/7, only being down for a few days after new patches.

I think it's easier for them to ban when the character name is obviously randomly created. They are less keen to ban a "sensibly" named character.

Well there is a huge difference between Gilspammers and Botters. The first has easy clear evidence against them, the second takes a very careful investigation which may take a lot longer.
And if you actually DID recieve tells every 10 seconds as you said, I'd assume you didn't report them, as filling out a report takes several minutes per spammer.

They're the same spammers that send repeatedly. You may only have 2 or 3 spammers but they send them every few seconds. They do disappear but it takes quite some time after reporting. The ones with the "real names" are a different matter altogether. They're the ones who offer Christmas bonuses on Gil in July because the last time they popped up was Christmas. They do exist & are frequently discussed here & elsewhere.

I get RMT spam Hourly on my server... sometimes up to 3 to 4 per hour. Its getting ridiculous.... Seriously 3 years and still getting RMT spam with no end in sight.... I can see Free 2 Play games having this issue (which btw I have never seen this issue on DC Universe Online). But having to be deal with this issue on a Sub AAA MMO is ridiculous.

How is it that there is no system in place that scans the servers chat system for any RMT spams... Looking for specific words or characters in random or certain sequences and being sent to more than 1 person repeatedly. Its not that hard to automate it and give GM's an alert via a ticket system to check X server for spam.... The devs can even put an automated system in place that once a spam is detected it will prevent the offenders from using chat in openworld or in the cities (except when in a party, FC Chat or in DF) for up to 24 hours or until the GM clears the alert.

There is no excuse for this to be going on for 3 years.....

Guild Wars 2 seems to have gotten rid of their Gold spammers and bots.

The blacklist is way too small to manage all the RTM spam :(

At the very least, it would be nice to be able to mass delete older spammers from this list instead of having to do it one by one.
