Employement options looking bad

I noticed after playing through to lvl 9 that I can't select the job npcs to become a carpenter/bonanist/etc, and I'm pretty sure they were a viable option before? Hoping that it required lvl 10 I finished that out but alas they remain red. Did I make a mistake by not signing up earlier? :(

You have to be lvl 15 to switch jobs the first time.

its lvl 10 but you have to do your current job's lvl 10 quest to open up armoury system

Thanks. Right now none of them are active on my character sheet. The only thing open to me is Conjurer.

Did you go talk with the guild receptionist (the one within each classes guild) to begin the quest to unlock the classes? Not sure if when you said "Job NPCs" that you meant the guild masters or the guild receptionists.

You have to complete your level 10 class quest first before you can do anything.
As well, they don't open on your character info until after you go and speak with each guilds representative and sign up.

Basically, in simple terms, to unlock new classes regardless of what class they are, including Disciples of the Hand and Land (and reiterating what is mentioned above):

Get your initial starting class to level 10 (in your case, CNJ)
Complete every class quest given by the guild for your starting class up to the level 10 one (for CNJ these are given by E-Sumi Yan at the back of the CNJ's Guild Stillglade Fane in Old Gridania)
Upon completing the level 10 class quest, the Guildmaster will 'give you leave' to learn other classes, and it should say 'Armoury System Unlocked'
For each class you want to unlock, visit the guild of that class and speak to the receptionist at the front counter (who should have a quest icon above their head)
Agree to sign up with the guild, and they will then direct you to speak to the Guildmaster in the back room
Speak to this person, and they will again ask you if you want to commit yourself to that class (usually in a demeaning or humorous way) - accept and you will be given the level 1 weapon or tool of that class and it will say '<insert class name here> Unlocked!'
Then, simply equip the weapon or tool for that class to change to it.

Thanks everyone, you've been very kind. I'll pursue those suggestions.

Enkidoh has it exactly right, step by step. Follow her words and you'll be chopping down trees to build things in no time(or whatever other jobs you may want to pick up - afterall you can do them all if you want). Specifically, the quest you need to finish as a CNJ is Trial by Wind. Once you finish the quest the guildmaster should say something about how youve proven your devotion to your craft and now have permission to undertake other pursuits but to continue your studies. From there youre off to the races.

Also, each class you unlock will then have quests every 5 levels. Be sure to keep up to date with them.

(Oh, and when you unlock a new class, it will have its own level, so once CRP is unlocked for example, when you first switch out your wand for a saw, you'd go from being a level 10 Conjurer to a level 1 Carpenter. You may want to have some level 1 clothes on hand when you do that.)

And with the Armoury unlocked, in addition to being able to unlock other classes, you'll also gain the ability to save gear sets. (They're just a simple way of switching out all your gear at once rather than once piece at a time. All the gear involved needs to be kept in your Armoury Chest for it to work.) You'll want to at least save a gear set for each class so you can switch between then easily. If you want you can also save a few extra gear sets if you want to easily switch out to a prettier cosmetic outfit for simple running around town content.
