If we are being asked to spend our spoils, can you tell us what the upcoming changes to the exchange rates are so we can decide whether or not to spend our spoils?

Yeah this part is difficult to understand without more information. The last time exchange rates were adjusted, we were encouraged to not spend our spoils, because the rates were made more favorable after the patch.
This time he says we should spend all spoils, which suggests that the rates will be less favorable after the patch, but that wouldn't really make sense from a position of trying to stimulate participation for the content.
Also would like some clarification for this. Not to squeeze spoilers out of the devs, but unless they're adding a new currency to the old diadem, one would think the advice would once again be to save spoils.
I was asking because I've been led astray before. At the end of 1.0, we were told that our items would be useful in ARR so I didn't sell my several million gil Militia Choker. Which then became 5,000G at the launch of ARR.
I'm wondering about this too... It seems very counter intuitive to spend the spoils unless they're being removed altogether.
Well i was saving mine to get Pegasus.... still needed about 60 more though :(
Diadem has been dead for a very long time
Changing the spoils due to the new 135 gear. However I wonder are they adding new rewards like a new mount
There could exist many explanations :
- Cost materia will be higher this time ? (nonsense)
- It will possible to buy materias and existing items only with a new type of spoil
- They will add new items to buy with curent spoil...and they don't want people with massive spoils have an advantage over other players.
- etc.
I suspect it will be a new kind of spoil and the existing one will not be usable anymore. But that's just a guess.
I'm assuming we wouldn't have been told anything if they were adding a new spoil, but they specifically mentioned exchange rates.
I'm also wondering if there was something missing / was a typo / was a mistranslation of some sort. Warning in advance to spend seems unusually. I'd expect a warning not to spend in advance if anything. Would be good to see more details or some sort of clarification. I suppose it could be reasonable that new spoils are being added and the best items will only be available for the new spoils while the old spoils lose value. That might actually make sense for the warning we saw.
Like, let's assume they made materia 30 spoils, pegasus 50 spoils and then enabled us to purchase random i210 or i235 gear for 5 and 10 spoils respectively. I still don't think many people would participate in the diadem. However, if it was arranged so that a party of eight could nearly guarantee one materia each with the possibility of more per hour run, then I think it may see a bit more action, being the most effective way to gather materia Vs.
edit: especially if the spiritbond range gets altered so we can spiritbond the easily craftable i220 gear to convert that into more materia.
Well the whole system is getting overhauled. So there might be actual missions to obtain seals instead of just hunting dinosaurs.
that's 3.5, right now we're getting "minor" adjustments.
I would also like clarification on why we should spend our spoils. Can you at least tell us if they're being made entirely obsolete?
I still have a couple of spoil stacks in retainer. (I thought they might be used in the anima quest before it came out, so I hoarded some.)
I don't think it is... I think we're just getting an new area to explore with Exploratory Missions, rather than an overhaul...
It's like with Deep Dungeons; Palace of the Dead is what it is, but they've mentioned taking our feedback into account for Deep Dungeons 2. Diadem is essentially Exploratory Missions 1, they're not overhauling it with whatever is planned for 3.5, they're just adding Exploratory Missions 2, which will hopefully be better and more objective/exploration based.
I'll happily be wrong about that though... I really don't want them to give Diadem the Frontlines treatment... Such a waste of resources to create content just to replace it... Based on what I remember though, they've said things like "We'll be adding the next Exploratory Mission", which I really can't read as "We're overhauling the current Exploratory Mission". Could always be a lost in translation kinda thing though, or me just recalling entirely different statements... Hopefully that...
They don't want us to be able to instantly buy Hunting Hawk for 250 spoils :^)
edit: which is a totally fair price for that thing anyway.
I doubt that case. If they're really concerned about players hoarding too much of an item they'll end up making a new item to do the same thing. Like how the Ixali didn't have a way to trade for unidentifiables or how we have new red scrip tokens to use towards the new gear. They won't leave it up to the players to balance rewards.
Well i had also heard they were overhauling it, though from interviews and what not it makes me think otherwise.
the only reason i would see them say spend them while you can is if the prices remain the same for the most part but it's a new thing like "large steel spoil" with a bad exchange rate like when they introduce a new tomestone tier
If you mean interviews with Yoshida then there's nothing ambiguous about it. He says they are overhauling it for sure, but it's not ready in time for patch 3.4 so you will wait a few more months for 3.5.
The design will feature much more clear objectives for parties to follow, and the addition of a new exploratory zone (diadem was only the first of a planned ongoing content series).
I have a feeling that this is the case, because ALL of Diadem is getting overhauled (or so they say).. But until an offical word is givin or some clarifaction, thats a big step to take for all that hard work to get them. But all of this will mean nothing if they don't give us ACTUAL reasons to explore, because why go look around and have fun when you can just farm one single area. Dino island killed it for me. But for now I'm looking forward to this
