Ps4/Xbox1/PC Voice Chat

We need either a in game voice chat or a app that can connect Ps4 players with PC players and soon Xbox1 players. My guild is all Ps4 players, I have to deny access to PC players to our raid guild for the simple fact that we would not be able to talk quickly in raids. In the age of technology this is just stupid , we need to bridge the gap before the Xbox 1 players arrive and we are split in 3 camps. This is a community problem that effects everyone , lack of a in game voice chat only promotes division. Hell even ESO has in game voice chat and its a POS compared to FF14.

This isn't Needed. There are countless 3rd party programs that already do this and SE doesn't seen to spend time on it.

3rd Party programs will work on PC and Apple and Android Cell phones .. No need to spend time on this.

I dont believe its not that they dont want to spend time on this - its rather that SE doesnt want to give people the feeling they have to use a voice chat and I can totally get behind that. And say Crystal already said - there are a lot of third party programs offering what you need... so keeping the voice chat out of the game seems legit enough to me.

Your third party programs are only for PC players to talk with PC players unless your gonna use your cell phone for mumble which imo is stupid.

Now if PSN designed a way for Mumble to work on PS4 then you could connect the worlds of PC and PS4 , ventrillo , team speak whatever we have no bridge atm from Ps4 to PC and it sucks.

I don't see reason for being exclusionary in selecting raid members in this manner. Why is voice so important for you?

...I'm constantly raiding and connecting to people on PS3/4... granted, I'm on PC so the inconvenice with getting a program to work on a laptop/phone/whatever lies with them... but I honestly prefer that over an ingame voice chat that would give people the feeling they HAVE to use one now. Not everyone is confident about that, you know? And with the attitude some people are already showing in normal chat, I can totally understand why.

Yes, voice chat is helpful, specially when raiding. But there are ways around it and thats most likely better than having someone tell a poor newbie in a dungeon to come on voice chat and start shouting at them and insulting them when they mess up...

My FC uses Discord to chat.
PS4 players (such as myself) just run it on our phones, laptops, ect.
It's really not a big deal.

Not really big on voice chat, grates on my nerve's 80% of the time so I'd rather not be told I have to use it because there is one available.

I can just do my thing and trust others to do their thing, I like it that way.

Same here as some of the others. I'm on a PS4 and when there is need for me to connect with someone I just fire up my phone or laptop on Discord next to me. I would much rather do that than have the looming shadow of forced chat for everything.

Voice chat does nothing but annoy me lol. I don't think we need more ways to connect. It's just fine. Teamspeak, etc, are already universal O.o

If voice chat is important to you then theres plenty of third party options that are available to you that probably work a hell of a lot better than PSN or even a built-in voice chat. In fact, if it's a program you can use for your smart phone, you can use it to get a hold of other players in your raid group who are offline, if they have nothing going on then it'd be another option to try to get one of them to go online and join instead of using PF.

If I remember right, WoW had implemented an in-game voice chat a few years back, but every one just kept on using third party chat programs like Ventrilo due to the fact that in-game chat sucked so hard.

I play on ps4 and I have a headset and the discord app on my phone. This works quite well for me, since my computer is in another room, answer I'm sitting on my couch.

It would be nice to have an in-game voice-chat as option to join for raids, you don't have to join it if you know what you're doing since you don't need voice chat to beat any content in this game. Then there's the problem where many third party programs don't work well for other people an the group/persons won't switch to other programs that work for the person affected. There's in-game voice-chat on DCUO between PC, PS4 and PS3 and they only added PC players to it this year an it works fine and it is optional not forced, so the developers just need to git gud.

Maybe it's me but people don't seem to want to socialize in an 'MMO'

This goes with the chat box to not just voice. Can't tell you how many times I've seen people join an FC and never, and I mean ever speak after joining; even when you say hi to them.

The anti-socialism in this game is real.

I think that comes down to people liking how MMOs play but not really being there to interact with people.
I mean, that's me in a nutshell; I really like MMOs, and have done since I was about 12 playing vanilla WoW and Runescape, however never once have I played an MMO for the social aspect. If I go through the entire game with no friends that really doesn't concern or bother me. I'm pretty sure that's how it is for most other people who play in silence.

I'm in an FC and sometimes talk to them but in the 3-4 months I've actually been playing I've not made any friends with anyone, and I really don't mind.

I'm getting PTSD flashbacks of people defending the Wii U's lack of cross-game / party chat (ie, not having features the Xbox 360 had) by justifying it via using other hardware to do it. XIV's case is not nearly as bad as a console manufacturer dropping the ball though.

That's not true, there are many PS4 players on this game, and to a point just as many PC players. It been a good move and make it easyer for ps4 guild/groups to team up and just talk over a party chat.. Hell in more for a party chat, them a ps4 chat.. So any one in the party with a mic and it on can just take will make clearing run much easyer and faster and if you don't like it turn it ff.

I get the feeling that alot of you against this third-party chat programs are scared, scared that some groups will use these chat programs to communicate past the limitations of your platforms of choice and create clear groups regardless of platforms. Is that so horrible? After all, wouldn't a program dedicated to voice chat by itself be superior by getting constant updates and being flexible on open platforms, than a game that tries to do everything and falls at it? I've been with people whos said they are in A8 content only to proceed and screw up A5 mechanics all because they were too lazy and stubborn to even try to use these programs because they were too "PS4 ONLY PC GTFO" to be of use to anything. Third-party chat is the future get on board.

To be fair though, it's this kind of thinking that will hold the game back.

If your deaf, I really have no comment there. But mute people, nobody is saying you even have to speak at all in voice. Sometimes just being there to listen for call outs is more than enough for the communication. Somethings are just easier to say via voice than to type it in the chat box; especially in hardcore content such as savage where voice would matter the most. Not everyone is "I use a mic so you have to as well". Some people would just rather speak with a mic themselves. No one is making you use yours. They just want you to be able to hear them.

Yoshi P has already addressed this with the opinion of many in this thread. It's an old thread but I doubt the opinion has changed.

TLDR: we can't support it because cons outweigh the pros, we are aware of third party alternatives that you can use and unofficially support your use of them.

As for the OP, You can use discord, and I believe Teamspeak on your phone, so you can have that running while on your PS4. The real solution for this problem would be for Sony to support a Discord/Teamspeak PS4 app (sorry PS3 players, but lack of voice chat is the least of your problems).

People do that anyway but it isn't 100% of groups that do which is something it very likely will be if this was implemented.

Yes we should, but I'll be social how I choose to be social not be forced to put up with annoying little brats screaming into my ear. If I wanna chat I'll go 3rd party if not I won't, I like having options available to me... Call me odd. It's not something I'm willing to do for random people as the internet is still the internet voice chat or no. I usually reserve it for people I know in real life, people I've had conversations with on forums or people I've got to know within the game itself.

Social yes, Voice Chat no. You can be social via the chat box and typing. I do not want voice chat in the game. People will start trying to force you to join or kick you. No thanks.

I don't need to listen to whiny teens, vulgar people, or drunks when trying to play the game. I have never used voice chat and will not ever use it.

Most raid groups won't let you join their static if you don't join their voice chat already. A lot of the savage fights would be very much harder if you did not use voice chat for better communication.

You people saying no are just scared , Im sorry but theres plenty of games with in game voice chat and guess what you can mute people and choose not to speak. Not wanting to communicate because your scared you might hear bad people , kids , lions , tigers and bears oh my! What if you hear awsome people willing to teach others how to overcome a battle? What if you learn something instead of being shut off in your own little island? Dear god what if ... you make friends!!!!! ZOMG!!!! Get the tin foil hats!!!

Maybe people just don't like voice chat in general. Stop trying to act like as if they're hermits.

Why limit me or others like me to what they fear why defend no voice chat in game ?

How is it stupid? Also, Discord is the better option. Voice chat would be a wasted endeavor anyway as it will go mostly unused by the majority of the player base. I've rarely encountered mic users in multiplayer games on consoles..and those that do tend to have extremely loud music playing the background or screeching kids and have no decency to turn off their mic.

Its stupid because we have a 500$ piece of Technology (ps4)that has full capabilities to comunicate with other systems if the powers that be work out . Some people still gave crap phones that wont support things like ventrillo or mumble , the PC players seem out of touch with the Ps4 community , they say oh just Skype ... well what if people dont have Skype? What if people dont have money for a iphone or a laptop or a PC. Why choose to limit the capabilities of the Ps4 ?

The dev team unofficially advocates the use of third party tools to talk during raiding, and they are free and easily accessible to everyone. The dev team doesn't need to spend time working on this as the third party route means that A) they don't have to develop it, and B) they aren't liable for the many disadvantages of voice chat (harassment, especially females, anxiety, voice identification etc.)

I'm sorry, but this logic makes no sense to me.

You have a $300 piece of equipment (PS4--most are around $300 nowadays where I live), but you are insinuating that people owning these expensive consoles don't also have a cell phone or a laptop? Or Skype? I mean, Skype is free to use. It's not like you have to pay for it. And I don't know many people in this day-in-age that don't have a cell phone and/or personal computer or laptop.

I don't raid, but my FC members and I talk to one another using discord. Some of them play on PC. I play on PS4 and I just have my laptop there running discord as I play. Not that hard to do.

Sounds to me your just too lazy, stubborn, or a kid. "Waaahhh why isn't there voice chat?!" "Well, heres various other options that you can easily use. While not in-game, they provide a great service while the devs can focus on more important things like new content, bug fixes, etc." "Waaaahhhh your just scared!"

Honestly, if communicating with players in-game is so important to you, then use the third-party programs, tablets aren't that expensive and headsets aren't either. Hell, in my last FC we all use Ventrilo to get clear in the coil raids back in 2.0 while almost everyone played on different platforms. Some on PC, some on PS4, we even had a healer on PS3 and we all used the same chat program to clear it and have a good time.

"But what if we can't afford a smartphone, tablet or laptop/PC?" Well, if moneys your big concern then why the hell are you playing an MMO?

you can buy a galaxy S2 for around $30, it supports discord and you dont even need a cell plan to use it so if you can afford a PS4 (hell if you can afford a PS4 headset which retails for around $30 for the cheap telemarketer 1 earpiece models) you can afford a phone to run discord with which is far more cost effective from a development standpoint and a hell of a lot better quality than any built-in game voice chat I have ever used. I say this as a person who does play on PS4 as well as PC, if the option were there I would not use a built in voice chat and would rather have the PS4 player just type to us rather than the whole group use what is almost always a horrid/laggy/low quality voice chat system.

Other suggestions:
if you have a Vita or a PSP laying around you can throw skype on that
if you have pretty much any tablet or smartphone ever made you can probably run skype on it
if you dont want to spend $30 on a like new S2 you can find plenty of $5 or less sim slot not working phones and as you dont need the sim slot to discord you are good to go (doesnt need to be pretty just needs to work and run android 4.1 jellybean)
if you are that desperate to use your PS4 to communicate with other players then how about you send suggestions to the creators of apps like discord to create applications to run on the PS4

Also to run discord you can run it off most browsers and is not very resource intensive, I was running it off a tethered cell router in the dominican (max of 7kbps) and a laptop I got for $300 CAD back in 2008 that barely ran the OS which you can probably fish better from the garbage of your local apartment complex these days
