1.0 player, played 2.0 beta, now back and lost/confused

Hey Everyone,

So whats going on is I played FFXIV 1.0 and then they started working on 2.0 RRB and I played the beta for 2.0 RRB and stopped playing. When I stopped playing on 1.0 I had a lvl 40 dragoon which required I believe a 30 Lancer and 15 Pugilist where now it requires a Marader lvl 15 (which mine is at lvl 0) not a Pugilist. So will that affect me? My char is still here and he's lvl 40 dragoon but my story has reset and I started in Ul'Dah. Also made me a Thaumaturge when I spawned into the game for the first time. I know in 1.0 I had all the locations accessible through teleport which I dont now.

Also some of my armor for my dragoon is not in the armor chest but in inventory unlike the armor that I started with the Thaumaturge. So my question is what is the deal with a person coming form 1.0 to 2.0 and being a high level? What should I do to kind of fix this limbo state if it needs fixing or just continue going through the main story line quest with my lvl 40 dragoon?

Welcome back! :D

Gameplay wise, your DRG is fine, the only change is you have to do the LNC class and DRG Job quests all over again to unlock abilities for it. Story wise, the story is slightly altered for a 1.0 player if you completed a certain boss fight in 1.0's storyline before the game was shut down (specifically, the Lunar Transmitter battle during the '7th Umbral Era' story).

If you started ARR with a cutscene of your character teleporting into Eorzea and walking into your starting city, then you achieved this and thus have the so-called 'Legacy story'. If you started ARR arriving at your starting city on a chocobo carriage or ferry though, then you have the 'normal' storyline I'm afraid (although the differences between the two are virtually trivial - the 'Legacy' story just ultimately has slightly different dialogue where your character is recognized for their previous exploits in 1.0).

And yes, all the old aetherytes and linkshells in 1.0 were deleted so you have to re-attune to the new aetherytes again to use Teleport and Return (in ARR they no longer use Anima but instead cost gil) - which is explained that the Calamity caused the old aetherytes to be destroyed and thus they no longer physically exist - requiring a whole new set of aetherytes to be constructed to replace them, thus requiring you to re-attune to them.

Personally I think you should keep going with your 1.0 character as you get a cool back tattoo as well as having all your old gear, levels and exp intact at the very least - you also can use the Armoury System and hire retainers immediately, unlike new characters which require story progression to access them. At the very least you also have the satisfaction of knowing that character saw Eorzea before the Calamity too. ;)

So i have all my Lancer/Dragoon Skills up to lvl 40 and I just went to the lancer guild and the icon is Red on the NPC and when I talk to the NPC she says "Before you can take up another discipline, you must first complete the level 10 quest of your starting class". I am assuming the lvl 10 Thaumaturge guild quest not the main story line quest? This kind of sucks cause i dont really enjoy playing Thaumaturge and I did not select it as my starting class, it was lancer...did the game just assign it to me?

Sadly I want to say I came in on the chocobo carriage so i guess I am doing it over again which i dont mind cause i get to a refresher on the story. But was hoping i could continue with my lancer/dragoon quest but i guess i cant? Also i am guessing once I am able to do the dragoon/lancer guild quest it will just be giving me the same skills i already have which is fine.

Yeah so when you reach the point of being able to hire a retainer, you might find some of your old items stored in there. The rest can be claimed from the Calamity Salvager npc (near weavers guild). And as mentioned if you want full use of your DRG you'll need to redo lancer and drg quests, leveling marauder to 15 in the process.

You may have selected thaumaturge as a starting class by accident. You'll need to do some of that to unlock the option to register with other guilds, and progress main scenario quests to the point you get airship access, then you can pick up marauder from limsa and lancer from gridania.

Yes, although 1.0 characters have access to their previously unlocked classes, Jobs and exp, the Armory System itself is locked and requires the player to play through the quests for the class they start ARR as (in your case, THM), up to the level 10 class quest. Then you have to visit each class guild in turn and sign up with them to unlock each class manually, just like a new character. It's annoying how this was handled, but ultimately it will become irrelevant. So sadly you have to do the THM Guild quests to level 10 and then head off to Gridania and sign up at the LNC Guild to 'unlock' LNC (or rather, the LNC class quests, as you would already have it technically unlocked in 1.0). The class quests are entirely new quests and storyline (and even feature brand new NPCs) so sadly any progress you may have had in the 1.0 quests is now lost I'm afraid, instead you're starting from scratch with them.

Incidentally, SE previously had a notice on the old Lodestone that explained about the process for transferring 1.0 characters into ARR and the specific differences such characters have at the start of the game compared to new characters, but sadly it disappeared when the old Lodestone was shutdown. It might be still accessible on the Internet Wayback Machine though, but that is a longshot.

Finally, to get around that annoying '1000 characters per post' limit, simply type a few sentences, post it, then go back and edit in the rest of what you want to post, like I just did. ;) It saves you having to waste precious posting allowances on posting more than a few sentences.

Ok so not to bad, good thing getting to lvl 10 quest wont take to long and glad to hear they changed up lancer/dragoon story so will be new to me. Ok so i guess the good thing is i get to replay the game but i have all my skills while I am just running around the game lol.

@Rufalus: I am sure i did not select any class, just picked my Char and started the game up.

Ok so i guess i am off to do THM guild quest then Lancer and MAR quest.

LOL yeah the 1000 limt was annoying..my original post was 1700 char long LOL an i shrunk it to 1100 and then was like will just split the post Lol. Glad to know of that trick Enkidoh Lol thank you :)

I suspect you were simply a thaumaturge at the moment of the final save before the Calamity.

You aren't redoing anything. All the quests are new.

Also, there's a level sync system. So for dungeons, FATEs, etc., your level will be temporarily adjusted to something appropriate for the content. And along with that, higher level abilities will be temporarily unavailable.

If your mission is to resume dragoon ASAP, though, yes, complete thaumaturge 10 quest first. Then in whatever order, go to lancer and marauder guilds, get level 1 any-class quests to unlock the classes, get marauder to 15, and do the lancer 1-30 class quests. Then you'll be able to get the dragoon job quests and be a dragoon again.

Personally, I temporarily gave my primary job of paladin a rest and mostly focused on a brand new class when A Realm Reborn launched. That way, I was leveling up again along with the new main story quests. But that's just personal preference, especially since your lancer is not at the level cap and you're still eligible to gain XP for that class (unlike my 2.x gladiator that was already 50).

@Evek: Thank you for the reply :)! Yeah you might be right...i don't remember picking it but never know..was a long time ago lol. Thank you for all the tips! Will definitely keep them in mind. As of right now I fished the lvl 10 THM quest and on my lvl 25 Lancer quest. Yeah you all were right the story def has changed and i like it!

So got another question for you guys/gals...the serve/world that I am on is the original 1.0 server Durandal that is located in Japan and its so Dead, like i have played all different times and its dead and it sucks lol. Thinking of doing a world transfer, which one would you guys recommend, one with people on it lol? I am located in North America so guessing a NA world would be what i should try to transfer to? Yeah, I definitely recommend moving servers - my old 1.0 server became a JP server into ARR (Ridill) and I found it increasingly difficult to get anything done too (although I met a few JP players who were really nice who understood English very well to mostly overcome language barriers, sadly timezone factors and general coldness of players on Ridill just made life too difficult).

In the end my FC family and I decided things were too difficult and so we moved to Balmung on the Aether datacentre, which is probably the most populated NA server, on account of it being the de facto roleplay server even back in 1.0. Although Balmung is usually locked to new character creation due to it's popularity, I had no trouble transferring there though so hopefully you should have no trouble moving there if you wish to join us here. :)

If you want to be assured youre transfering to a busy server theres a simple solution(other then listening to Enkidoh - which i guess is also simple). The next time youre about to log on at your "usual" playtime, look at the character creation restriction post on the Lodestone. They update it 5 times a day, so its never more then 5 hours old. The servers that are blocked are the ones that are busiest at the time of the most recent post. Some servers(like Balmung that Enkidoh is on) are basically always blocked. My understanding is that a transfer bypasses the character creation restriction, so you should be good to go.

Sargantanas was a busy server when I was on it and the people was fine. The only reason I moved was because when I came back they had an EU data centre.

Yeah its so dead was trying to a low lvl story quest where you form your first party..yeeaah after couple of hours sitting in the duty cycle group thing with no luck I was like think its time to change Lol. Was of course doing other quest while it found me a group, thank God they have that in 2.0. As i explore the game i am just amazed at how beautiful and a totally different game it is Lol. Like the analogy 'night and day" does not even do it justice in my opinion lol. Loving it :D!

Duty Finder lets you select which languages to use when matching you up with other players, but by default it only selects the language you have the game set up to use for dialog, menus, etc. On a Japanese server, getting a group can be really slow unless you also include Japanese in your DF language selections. (Of course, if you do include it, then your teammates are justified in expecting to be able to speak Japanese, and you might be limited to using auto-translate if you don't know the language.) But, at least it would get you into groups faster. It might be slow if it's trying to match you up with other English speakers on a JP data center.
