Has Palace of the Dead disappointed anyone? Was anyone hoping it would be ffxiv's version of Nyzul Isle? Just curious what other players think of it and if they'd hoped it would be more or something else. Not trashing it, just curious.

Might want to read this.

I'm a bit dissapointed, not because the content is bad neccessarily... It just doesn't feel like endgame to me.... It just feels like a really easy way for people to get a lvl 235 weapon while pressing 1 or 2 buttons the whole time. As i said earlier there were already 30+ low level dungeons people could use to play with low level friends or w/e... This should have been endgame content IMO.
I understand that I could go in there solo and it would be more challenging and fun, but there's just simply nothing to gain from doing that. I might do it solo once, but that's about it.
It never was meant to be endgame content at all. The first 50 floors are merely an introduction to what will come in the later months. POTD has some randomized elements plus abolishes the trinity system, which makes it much easier for people to jump in and play rather than having to deal with scripted fights and needing certain roles.
When I saw the trailer I was thinking maybe a version of Nyzul Isle, but then again I'd thought Diadem wouldn't be what it turned to be either. So we'll see if SE gets the msg players are not happy with what they did get and see if anything comes of it.
I'd started my own thread about this after not seeing anything in the first two pages of threads in general discussion and someone was nice enough to link me to this thread but I am unable to delete my own thread I'd started before being told about this one. I can still delete posts but not my actual thread unless there's something I'm missing.
I don't remember reading it would be limited to first 50 floors. Unlimited, endless words where thrown around right? That saying I have only completed it 3 times week of release and never went back.
I am very happy to have Palace of the Dead content.
I got BLM from 51 to 60 in half the time roulettes and regular dungeons take. on top of that, floors 1 to 30 are, literally, a cake walk.
I also got WHM from 45 to 50 and DRK from 50 to almost 52 and got an ilvl 235 wep for my main DRG. Working on a second one right now. I am enjoying it. It's another added thing to take your mind off running roulettes.
Got 7 of 10 potshards too so, im really excited to get that mount or whatever. By then I am 100% sure my DRK will hit 60. Easily.
I am not disappointed because this is 1-50 and just basically an introduction to PotD. I expect 51-100 and 101-200 to offer up some different challenges and objectives similar to Nyzul, but hopefully no lamp floors... please no lamps...
omg lol those lamps, I hate them too. You know they'll add them if ppl don't want them just to be SE. I did enjoy hearing the 1.0 Mor Dhona music back in the game though there is that. I do hope though that 51+ is different and more to what the playerbase seems to want in other posts.
That's good, because what we have now is by NO means intended to be ANY form of "endgame" at all. You can run it on level 1 classes, for Pete's sakes. (F51-200 may work differently.)Quote:

The i235 weapons exist only as a potential lure for people that are already at the endgame level to do it.
I don't much care for the apologists' argument that 50 entire floors is just an introduction to the content and it will be made good later on. Folks, this content is why you're only getting 2 dungeons per patch instead of 3. You should expect content like this and Diadem to be in a better place when they launch, to come out swinging like Nyzul Isle and Dynamis did way back when.
As for my personal feelings, I'm done with it after I get my weapon out of there. It's highly repetitive, makes me sleepy, the rooms all blur together, there are no interesting objectives on each floor to stave off boredom, and ultimately a lot of the time you feel like you don't make any progression at all. That and the fact that matched parties can kick you immediately following a disconnect, thus resetting all progress you have made...
I don't know why people are so hung up over the gutted 3rd dungeon as if a 3rd dungeon will magically make expert roulette somehow less boring than it was in all of 2.0.
*eyeroll* You just had to know the special endgamer snowflakes would come into this thread talking reckless about PotD.
Palace of the Dead is exactly what XIV has been needing, an activity that rewards adaptation to uncertain situations (or the appropriate pomander), planning, and persistence (especially now). It's not about who can parse the highest or which jobs are the most useful. It's about how well you know your job and how well you can work with any combination of jobs. It's a different kind of challenge, but a challenge all the same.
I for one definitely found it more tolerable in 2.xQuote:

It at least tried to somewhat resemble a roulette, unlike the Duty Coin Flip we have now
Oh, yeah. I definitely miss having 3 linear dungeons with gates instead of having 2 now.
I do too, that's why it's a common complaint around here.Quote:

it's got a lot of things going for it, like not needing the usual party so no queing issues, very good for a refresher or practice on a class/job. With a few tweaks it could make very good solo content content as well. (I like to do some solo runs, but the rewards are painfully slow going that way vs using a group). I like the fact solo requires a little bit of thought and tactics. It's also good to have a reasonable level weapon not tied to the EXes for a change.
Even if it was just an introduction, they should've worked on it better so Palace of the Dead would leave a good impression on people for them to look forward on the next new floors.
I'm slightly disappointed since it's been pretty boring to me. There's not much randomness in it either. While the floors shift, traps shift and some dead NPCs might pop up, the setting and monsters don't really change much every 9 floors. There's not much else but killing trash mobs (which I find not very fun or challenging) and hunting for treasure chests. There's no neat things like events, doing puzzles, creating strategies, unique combat objectives, non-combat objectives etc.
I'm not saying it's entirely bad but it can honestly be much, much better. I even prefer this over doing DF dungeons (because of my gripes over those dungeon designs) even as it is right now.
Maybe I expect too much but hopefully the next additions are more interesting.
