Just any sort of rewards for logging in every day.
So that people can complain on the forums every time a patch or maint (emergency or otherwise) comes along and they lose their log-in bonus chain?
Isn't that essentially what the veteran rewards are?
You already get a bonus for logging in - its called having fun.
that and you get to do dailies + roulette bonuses.
doing a single daily gives you a materia that someone who didn't log in wouldn't have gotten.
What about...
...getting your daily treasure-map?
...doing your daily mini-cacpot?
...doing your roulettes?
...sending your retainers out for an 18 hour venture (and collecting the reward)?
I'm guessing this might be in relation to what games like FFXI has been doing for a while now. Under different circumstances, I'd say it'd be a good thing, but with XIV, there really isn't a whole lot to purchase with a special currency like log-in points. At least, nothing special that wouldn't essentially break other parts of the game or be deemed pointless fluff (like some tomes just for logging in).
If the complaints with regard to the relic grind are any indication, anything that rewards people who can play more often will elicit vocal indignation from players who don't/can't play every day. Let's not forget there are people who are shocked and offended that they can't log in once a month and fully optimize their gear in a few hours.
Besides, if you think about it there already are several systems that reward you for playing every day: GC Hunts, Centurio Hunts, Roulettes, all that nifty Ctrl+U stuff...
Well the thing about log-in bonus is sometimes it can be something fun. For example Blade and Soul's log-in bonus was kind of designed to look like a little board game and if you logged in all month you got cosmetic armor or something else cool.

I would say they could put past event items in there and make everyone happy but then what would they put on the cash shop.
Although if they really thought about it they could do it just over a month before a new patch and force ppl to pay an extra month's sub if they want the items but do not want to use the cash shop and probably make more money. Then throw a few extras in there like a few mounts they could just rotate thru so you only see them about once a year to attract even more. If the log in campaign lasts 2 weeks, require say 10-11 log ins out of 14 for the mount and/or cash shop item(s).
And if you cannot be bothered to take 2 minutes to log in on 10 random days in 2 week period, then maybe that mount wasn't as important to you as you thought.
They could do something like opening a box for a random reward such as... tomes, gil, POTENTIAL RELIC ITEMS, crafting mats, minions, glamour items. Just something fun but with a low chance for a big reward like a lot of gil or a relic item
No. I want to choose when and how i play, i don't pay the subscription fee to feel like a slave to a daily chore list or what amounts to a punishment every day i don't log in.
Need to be rewarded to log into the game?
Which still makes them kinda better than log-in bonuses, since you don't feel obligated to play just to get it.
Log-in bonuses just feed into the feeling of turning the game into an obligation. Feels too predator-ish from a developer side, convincing players they should keep playing and paying for the subscription or they lose out on stuff.
At least, that's how they've felt to me. I'd rather play because I want to play, not because I feel like I have to.
I thought daily roulette was the log in bonus?
ffxi has log in campaigns and I love them! Was able to get not only useful items that way but also some items that were just for fun and silliness.
The idea is not new, but would add a bit more to the game and im all for that.
This game should have log in campaign as well as nabbing the ideas from other games too for weekly bonus events, focusing on specific gameplay each week to get bonus rewards from. (rewards that all roles recieve, not just tanks when it comes to combat)
I just... can't even...
Just wow... taking the game as if it was a job. Reward for this, reward for that... How about you just play for the fun it provides? You little princesses, why do you guys feel so entitled to everything that you expect rewards for every little fart you let out?
I don't think we really need those login rewards here or we can have them without breaking game's economy or balance. Remember those login rewards are implemented in some F2P or P2W as a cheesy reward to make you stay in hopes you will be sweetened and spend some money in their shop. Some of them throw you consumables but in that game you really need to use a lot of them throughout the game so those rewards aren't breaking the game exactly. We already have Veteran rewards as of rewards. I would ask for cooler Veteran rewards not for every day login rewards. The last thing I need is useless potions and crapware filling my already tight inventory.
Hun you must not know about the roulettes, beast tribe dailies, etc. yet. Dailies are practically the same thing as a log in bonus, but with a more substantial reward, that takes way more time than a log in bonus.
I'm for this idea 100%, then my FC members who barely log in during the late-patch doldrums might log in every day.
it would just be annoying to keep track of
Exactly. This is for fun. Yes we get veteran rewards and stuff. But it's still for fun. If you don't have fun, don't play. Don't be tied to a game just because it gives you a little something. Because guess what, that little something is for you to play in the end. Oh the irony...
I dont log in everyday because I get a reward, I log in because there's things to do that are fun. I don't consider roulettes and dailies a reward for logging in, I believe the OP doesn't even mean that since that is part of the game. Seriously guys, get off your throne...
As much as I don't like the idea of encouraging people to log in, collect rewards, and log off, I think this would be a much better way to go about things than what we have now. A forced weekly cap on tomes just burns people out, and in the long run makes people want to quit because if they fall behind they feel like they are being left out or forced out of gear. With a log in bonus people are more likely to log in and hopefully continue to play because they're getting their participation reward without missing out on too much if they don't.
Nope. If these people who don't normally play because they dont like it or are bored, and get the "log-in rewards", they will just do that: log in, take the reward, /shutdown. No reward is going to make people stay if they don't like the game or get bored soon.
As someone said before, nothing is going to make people log in and play if they are not pleased with the game in the first place. And those of us who do stay and play because we like it, do we need a reward for that? We have it already. I feel enough princessy with that.
Why are you resorting to name calling? Its just an idea for people who actually play the game and not those who just come on every so often. Its nothing game breaking what so ever. How is this an issue? If people think it then becomes a job to log in for a silly small bonus then they are playing wrong and its an issue with themselves not the game.
Honestly, we shouldn't need an incentive to play the game aside for fun. I haven't logged in to do my roulettes or even beast tribe dailies for days because it's simply not fun anymore, a daily login bonus would not change any of that in a meaningful way.
Then what's the point of it in the first place? A login bonus is supposed to encourage players to play (or at least, log in) every day. Honestly, they're adding so much fluff it's to the point that it's taking away from the enjoyment of the game (especially when it's at the cost of content, which they have mentioned on record). I want logging in to be something I want to do, not something that I should feel obligated to for a daily reward.
I don't actually see the harm in this. For everyone saying it's stupid and unnecessary, let me frame it like this: What if they improved the rewards during patch lulls, when they see that less people are logging in. Would this be enough to improve player retention? even if people did just log on and claim the rewards, they have made the effort to log on for a bit, and perhaps will stay logged on.
One of my biggest complaints with XIV is the content injection/content lull system (somewhat improved by putting content in .05 patches). There is no cycling and variation throughout the patch cycle and people get burned out on it. I feel that a log in bonus would be an artificial way to begin to improve this, with more people logging on (and paired with additional bonuses to random content on different days).
