Mentor Appreciation thread

I've seen the issue of mentors pop up quite frequently on the forums lately, and almost all of it is negative. I wanted to do something on the flip side and say thank you to all of the mentors that have worked hard and do a good job at helping people.

I wanted to make this thead so that people can shout out and thank those who helped them in a mentor roulette or out and about in the world/novice network.

Well you're on Hyperion which somehow seems to avoid a lot of the things I see brought up here (most of the time).
I think we made a really nice place for novices. Sure we can't do much about instance mentors but the Novice Network at least has been great.

Being on Balmung, I see good and bad mentors all the time. I try really hard to be one of the good ones because I feel like the crown is a symbol of responsibility and not of one measuring their dick size.

So to other good mentors out there, who can deal with the best and the worst this game can throw at you, I salute you.

Thank you to all the mentors that take the time to explain boss mechanics before we go in. And thank you to all the mentors that respond to my /tells and give me info. I greatly appreciate you all. <3

I agree that Hyperion's novice network seems to actually work and is a really nice place to be. Thank you Hyperion mentors for making this seemingly awful thing actually work and for making the game a better place for the sprouts on the server, you do us proud :)

We have active Mentors here in Ragnarok, helping with questions and stuff! Never seen any serious negative feedback on the chat (except for the typical language problems or misunderstandings)

A mentor from Faerie gifted me a weapon more powerful than the one I had without knowing me at all.

I've done that, I love crafting the 1-50 levelling gear for random sprouts, they treat it like the holy grail when it really didn't take much for me to make, it's a nice happy feeling to help someone

I never really had problem with mentors. The Novice Network on Behemoth, aside from some drama and chitty chat from the same old people was very helpful and friendly. While I don't actually see really active mentors, whenever I asked something people answered.

I want to positive really I do I swear but I've only seen 5 or so helpful mentors, 100s of bad ones & 10s of silent ones. But those helpful ones were um...helpful & always got my comm for helping the noobs.

You are amazing. And I appreciate what you do. I remember when I had just got my retainer, and I was sitting at the bell deciding on what class to choose. A random mentor walked up and traded me some healer weapons. It really made my day.

Oh, a nice memory: one day I asked in the NN how to get the fat cat minion and a mentor asked me via /tell where I was (I was in the middle of drybone camp and he wanted to go there! But I told him that we could meet at limsa) and when I got there he gave me the fat cat minion which is my favorite minion. :)

Theres nothing wrong with being silent.

I'm not explaining things if people don't want to listen.

They can see the symbol beside my name. They know what it means and that means they can ask me pretty much anything and I have an answer for it.

Mentor status does NOT mean you have to explain every single mechanic and aspect of the dungeon in full detail.

No where did it EVER say that was your job when you signed up to be a mentor.

That crown beside my name means if you need a partial FFXIV wiki, you can ask me. Its not my job to just spout off information. Maybe its your job to ask questions

Well if you see me in instance just give me a /wave XD I can control 4-8 man duties of I'm on tank if I'm a dps my power of mentor and the pyramid of power between healer, tank, dps there's little I can do. ;p 24 men depends on the alliances if easy people, I could do my job. (~°-°)~
Hence I'm the type who lurk in my novice network and always work if there are people need helps in instances' mechanics. (^°-°)^

This is an unfortunate reality, and it's the reason that I made this thread, to highlight the good work that has been done. The only advice I can really give against this for anyone is to become the kind of mentor that you want to see in the world, because if it makes an impression on just one person it's worth it.

Is it ok to thank someone who isn't part of the mentor program (they say it isn't a very good thing) but has helped me out so much with everything despite not being a mentor with the program?

With the amount of 'false' mentors in the game that are only in it for the badge, I'd say that the badge doesn't make a mentor, so I'd love for you to thank them here :)

On my server there is Nixi who has helped me both on the forums and when they saw I was on the server in game. They helped me with dungeons and story stuffs, they also helped me do these things called hunting targets to get stuff that can be used for gear later (tomes and hunt marks). They have been extremely helpful in answer any and all questions I have regarding how things work and even why things work as they do and I really do appreciate the time and patience given to me by this individual.
