Catching up on 3.0 WHM

Hello, I just came back from Final Coil patch and was wondering how WHMs are doing in end game atm in terms of demand.

Still in a very good place, the 3 new healing skills obtained in HW are very powerful, and the 2 new DPS skills...increases your dps even more I guess.

End game wise, WHM is also in a stable condition, able to compete with AST for the Main Healer slot.

Overall WHM is currently in a good place, finding statics and PUGs to do content with should be a non issue.

I agree
The whm got a good dps and a slight mana management boost
And keep the biggest number in term of healing

However it is no longer a mandatory member
The AST is more than able to replace him
And the whm got no mitigation power

The only advantage is that WHM is more widely played than AST
And also way easier to play

(Do not listen to close-minded whm that tell you that it is the absolute healer... It's a liiiiie)

WHM vs AST is a can of worms I'm not willing to open.

But WHM and AST is similar to BLM and SMN now:
If you ask "which class is better?", You'll have Pro-BLMs and Pro-SMNs waving pitchforks at each other.
But the truth is, majority of statics/PUGs look for a CASTER, they don't give a shit whether you're a BLM or a SMN, as both of them are fine.

The exact same can be said for WHM and AST, so play whichever healer you like.

kinda reminds me of SCH/WHM debate back in the days.

White Mages's strengths have been further amplified with their new Heavensward abilities.

(oGCD) Tetragrammaton: 700 Potency oGCD on a 60 second cooldown.

(oGCD) Assize: 300 Potency AoE Heal (15y range--same as Medica) on a 90 second cooldown with the additional benefit of it doing 300 Potency AoE Damage and a 10% MP Refresh added onto it.

(oGCD) Asylum: 100 Potency Field type heal that lasts 21 seconds (works like Sacred Soil). This is a total of 700 potency AoE Regen as long as someone is in it, which can be effectively used as a single target tank heal or AoE Regen.

We've also gained Aero 3 (AoE DoT) and Stone 3, which is a direct upgrade of Stone 2. As WHM currently stand, their healing outside of their GCD has improved significantly and their MP management has been boosted slightly. Progression wise they're one of the best defensive progression raiding main healers as they have the highest burst and on-demand healing via oGCD heals (not comparing to SCH). Cure 3 is still their niche heal when compared to the other healers, but as for a tl;dr: they're in a really good spot at the moment.

Don't believe the falsehoods about the Astrologian - anyone who plays this instead of a whm.......is a heretic!

Even now I am petitioning the Sharlayan Forum to send kidnap squads to take all these whm-lite wanabe's back for trial.

I ran a Sohr Kai and Nidhogg last night that both made me rage in a way I have never before since I literally couldn't handle keeping people alive, draw, weigh, and distribute cards, AND DPS without someone eating it.

Pulling a spire (tp refresh card), burning it, pulling another spire, redrawing, and getting ANOTHER spire in a party of mages is a special kind of frustration.

So, I'm now working on WHM. 2 weeks of grinding for Welkin gear out the window, but AST is just too busy for me, mobility be damned, and I want to do EX level stuff!

Looking at this thread just reinforces it.

In single target scenarios you shouldn't be that far behind WHM in DPS. Cards work off the global CD, so you shouldn't feel any real impact there. Regen is similar in power to aspected ben, same with helios and the generic cute/cure II spells. The mobility front load of light speed is powerful. Synastry is almost an on demand Benediction its entire duration (a crit makes it crazy.) It's subsidized mp costs make mp management less rng than a WHMs.

In my eyes, WHM will and should have it's niche cure III and higher personal dps, while ASTs have to flex a skill floor between not only healing and personal dps, but weaving cards as best they can to not interfere with their gcd. The best ASTs should be able to play as if uttering cards between the breath of each spell they cast, never really stopping for them.
