"One of Each Job" Dungeons

So I was thinking about the maat fight in XI while thinking about jobs in XIV. The AF gear is what made me make the connection, and then I had a nifty idea that would be really fun to impliment.

What about a dungeon(s) that had a restriction that the entering party consisted of exactly one of each job. As a second restriction, each player would be restricted to only using their job-specific armor and job-specific weapon (if we are getting a JSE weapon that is). No materia, no accessories; just your job, skills, and equipment SE had provided to you in respect to your job.

These could be BCNM-like fights with leve-like difficulty settings from 1 star to 5 star and each of these challenges would have tiny pieces that would favor each class. For example, a boss that under a specific buff takes damage from ranged attack or magic damage only. A scenario with multiple weak monster adds, something a MRD would excell at defeating. Etc.

Optional:
At the end of the dungeon, the game would return a score on the performance of each participant in relationship to the difficulty and how well they completed the hidden job-specific challenges. These scores would then be averaged together (higher weight being applied to harder difficulties) and could be displayed in-game or on the lodestone in a ranking/achievement system. It should also be noted that while bonus points would be awarded for victory the biggest emphasis would be on the individual players skill. Victory comes with teamwork but the intention is to grade the individual, not the team.


Alot of the current endgame content has seen the emergence of certain classes being favored over others and with special content like this that could not happen. It would create a dungeon that favors every class and would test their skills playing that job.

The only hang-up I'm having with the idea is the scoring system is intended to establish a way to distinguish for example the people who love and embrace WHM and are amazing healers from those who have never done it before. The problem is it would bring about elitism based on a certain players score. It's probably an evil thats tied to any kind of performance index but I'd be interested in hearing any ideas to minimize the negative impact of the score. In actuality it could be dropped all together as the focal point is the every-job content.

Sounds complicated, painful, and un-fun / anti-fun.... something about immersion.

But honestly... good luck to the 3 parties who actually manage to get 1 of each class with full JSE armor and weapons.


This is about 1000x out of reach for casual players.

Not to mention Pug/Mrd/Lnc/Gla/Arc/Thm/Con is 7 classes / jobs.... so you wouldn't have a full party.

Sounds like a pain in the ass, It will hurts more than it does good, closed friends will have to be splitted up because of the class restrictions, small LS that doesn't have alot of members with all 50s class are pretty much excluded.

I considered the difficulty in putting together a party of each class but then I looked back on my previous pick-up-group experiences for DH, etc. usually everyone has at LEAST two 50s, most times many more. I also don't think SE is going to make the JSE quests obscenely difficult if a player starting at lv30 start the storyline. I'm honestly expecting the most painful part of JSE being the inventory space to hold all of it, this is just an assumption but I wouldn't be surprised if all of the "every combat class 50" people have "all job stuff 50" in a few days.

I run a relatively small LS, we have one person with all combat50s but most of us don't. Not every single one of us is a GLA though, we have a nice mix of people and for endgame content we've been able to drag from Uldah what we need. It could be complicated but with 2.0 and its influx of players it shouldn't be too hard. Besides, getting to 50 is a joke now, brand new players to my linkshell have been able to get something to 50 in a couple weeks at best if they're casual. In a big Linkshell EXP group we went 25 to 50 in four days of partying.

By the time jobs are released, anyone who has been playing for any kind of length will likely have multiple 50s. And for those new people who have gotten their first 50, there will be plenty of people with multiples to fill the gaps. I could be overestimating everyone else's cooperative capabilities though...

Hmm, we could take this a bit further and implement a "One of each alphabet" dungeon.

I came into this thread with a preconceived notion that it seemed like a bad idea (forcing people to party on a given set of jobs is just asking for outcry from people who don't have friends/want to level job A or B). Having read your post, however, I believe the idea has some merit - with a few caveats.

This cannot (and I can't stress this enough) be a large part of the game. As a little bonus dungeon, though, it's an interesting idea. Something that allows players to really test their mettle on a given job or set of jobs when compared to other players. I would make one addendum however. I believe that instead of restricting players to Jobs A, B, and C. The "dungeon" should have a whole set of pre-designed scenarios that are chosen from based on the party. In that way, instead of it being "you need jobs A, B, and C" it becomes "if you have jobs A, B, and C, you do this mission". That would put more freedom in the hands of the players.

As a personal note, I would think these should be as hard as possible, given that the entire point of the idea is to really test the players' skills in a controlled environment.

Can't implement an idea like this one with only an assumption that people will:

1) Have multiple level 50 combat classes/jobs.
2)Willing to play different roles just to get into a party.

This is more likely to break up a LS because there may be multiple players that are dedicated to the same class. Those groups shouldn't have to oust one of their friends because of any type of game feature/mechanic.

Do I get a bonus if I use Alphabet Soup for food buff?

The best way to make sure that all classes are equally represented in the game is to make sure they don't have any advantages/disadvantages in lower tier/low skill PVE, and have only small advantages/disadvantages in high tier/high skill PVE.

Forcing people to play a certain way so blatantly like that is terrible game design. The way to promote job diversity is by, you know, actually promoting job diversity and making each job good, fun to play, unique, and special in their own way so that each job has something that appeals to different people according to their own personal playstyle, personality, and aesthetic.

Have it so that cooperation from different jobs and a diverse skill set actually increases your DPS, as opposed to spamming the same move from the same job over and over again.

The only thing I could approve of would be to have an achievement for a diverse class party or something like that, but that's all.

I like this idea. Most people have multiple 50's. It prevents an instance from having that ideal setup that will alienate a certain job(s). People should be willing to be flexible in terms of playing whatever job it takes even if it isn't their "preferred" job. You've got to be a team player!

Parties should be encouraged to make a diverse team because it increases their DPS and survivability, not because the game forces them to.

And, not as many people have multiple 50s as you think.

You know what else prevents an instance from having an "ideal" setup while also not forcing people to level jobs they don't like or spend hours making a group of all different jobs?

Making sure that all classes roughly do the same amount of damage, take the same amount of damage, heal the same amount of damage, and that there are redundant buffs and debuffs. That way when people are forming parties, they're not thinking "man I really need a White Mage/Bard/Ranger right now", but they're thinking "man I really need a healer/support/ranged DPS right now".

this is just plain bad all the way around no no no and again NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I can see it now, would take me like 2 weeks just to get a party together .. ><
