Ishgard

Will Ishgard have a unique neighborhood like the other city states, or is it only getting the apartments?

I really hope Ishgard has it's own neighborhood.

Yoshida said at the E3 live letter that they were not ready to commit to something like that, so I'm assuming it's not in the plans for right now.

They talked about upcoming ishgard housing when discussing the current housing dilemma. They say the Ishgard housing coming in 3.4 will be apartments and "will hopefully meet most if not all of the personal housing demand." So by the sounds of it, just going to be apartments and it doesn't sound like there's going to be a neighborhood. Of course not much has come out yet about the apartments. We will find out more about them the closer we get to 3.4.

Huh, I was under the impression 'apartments' were a new type of housing that would be available in every existing ward type (so there would Mist apartments, Lavender Bed apartments, etc), and that Ishgard itself would get its own housing wards later on.

Although I can certainly see how something might have been lost in translation, if Ishgard won't be getting its own ward and apartments are going to be an Ishgard exclusive thing in place of that. It would kind of make sense too since they don't exactly have land to build on.

If there's a recent interview or live letter where they explicitly spell this out I'll be interested to see it. It seems like it's been nothing but hearsay for months and I really want to get the record straight.

Apartments sound more and more like FC rooms to me (just not attached to an FC). So someone will have a space to customise as they want, but without the fear of being kicked out of their FC and losing it at any minute (and without the full perks of a house (i.e. gardening/stable))

That is what I thought as well. I skimmed through the live letter summary from E3 on reddit and couldn't find anything on it.

To the best of my knowledge they've only ever said about Ishgard housing being apartment/manor housing and each one would hold up to 500 residences (which is why I think it sounds like an FC room within a house)

I tend to think they'll be just like FC rooms, but...
Part of me wants to believe that it wouldn't take THAT long to implement if it was just a copy/paste of existing content.
Also, if they mean for it to be a way to help the housing problem, they need to make apartments good enough for people to want to get those, and not the houses they'll release whenever they do so (which might be in another 1+ year...)

If apartments are seriously just a bunch of FC room style stuff...I wouldnt want to buy that. Maybe if it had like, a view of outside, a little balcony ya know? and you can see your apartment neighbors...like a real apartment :P

I doubt we'll be able to see neighbors from inside, if it's instanced rooms like the FC rooms or houses.

However, if they want people to be interested in apartments and actually consider to get those instead of housing, they need to:
- Make them big enough and offer more partitions options to set up rooms the way we want. (Or even offer them in different sizes/prices)
- Make them feel more "open" than FC rooms, so they feel like an actual home and not just a small room in a house.
- If they do offer the possibility to pick an apartment "size", they should make it up-gradable.
- They should let us have tenants, like in housing.

Now, will they make it worth it for people to go from a house to an apartment to free up space in the wards for Free Companies...? I'm skeptical. But we'll see.

Perhaps not inside the apartments, but I mean if they made some sort of Central connecting plaza, again, like a real apartment.

I think there's supposed to be some sort of plaza, where they will include a Chocobo stable, and stuff. I hope it'll be nice :P Would be cool for it to be somewhere people can hang out.

Yeah, like when I had to stay at my Aunt's apartment for the day, I loved exploring down the halls (It was a big complex) and then going downstairs to the almost "lobby" area...and ofc, playing in the pool :P

They absolutely should make it more than just an instanced FC room type of thing if they are hoping for any type of success. I'm hoping to see not only a larger room but possibly a multi level loft type setup inside. I highly doubt you will see gardens outside but that's not to say they cant have a smaller version of it inside. I like the idea of a lobby type area and chocobo stables. That would be pretty cool. You might actually see people mingling, unlike most of the abandoned wards of houses...

Well this is odd. I was fairly sure I'd read about wards being added in Ishgard sometime in the future, and if you follow this link, the first post seems to confirm it:

However the link beside Bayohne's name is broken. If you go to the Past Events board on this forum you can still see the thread that quote came from but it's empty and the digest for the live letter xxvi doesn't mention new wards at all.

So, has something changed? Are new wards in Ishgard no longer being planned?

The only thing that seems to be confirmed, is that Ishgard apartments are coming soon. However, the word "apartment" is apparently translated to mean "mansion" or "manor", or some such thing, so people are hoping for more than just an FC room.

I like the neighborhood idea... it's perfect really. However, if you don't have enough server space to offer a house for every player, you've got a problem. Instanced housing has been a staple for MMO's forever... it isn't as amazing as a real neighborhood would be. But if you don't have the resources available to support it, the vast majority of players are left out in the cold. They really should just bite the bullet and create instanced housing. Apartments, manors, upgradeable dwelling instances in popular zones. I'd love to own an instanced house where I can build a carpentry room, bedroom, mini-farm with gatherables, trophy room with mannequins, etc..... They shot for the moon and missed, so to speak. Time to fix the problem.

My idea was the instanced rooms...and then just a central area full of halls and a lobby type place...with the halls connecting the rooms :P

It's true translation can be a bit tricky sometimes... What Yoshida means by "apartments" and what we think could be pretty different. All we really know for sure is there's going to be large buildings containing instanced "homes" for individual players.

As for Ishgard housing, Yoshida said at E3 that they couldn't commit to that right away, so maybe they had to push the idea back for now. Considering how flawed the housing system is right now, they could stand to fix some of the issues before they add more. After all, they've seen that adding housing wards didn't fix the housing problem at all in the current housing areas on some of the most populated servers. The last thing they'd want is to add more new content that only a select few will be able to access. It'd create more outrage, etc.

That, and they really need to get on upgrading the servers, so the less they plan beforehand, the sooner they'll get to that on their massive list.

As I recall, someone had pointed out what the term "mansion-style" translates to from Japanese to English. In Japan, a mansion apartment is like a studio or bachelor pad in North America, IIRC.

It was my understanding that there will be both "mansions"/apartments and a ward. Seems that isn't the case, but not 100% confirmed yet. Regardless, I will keep saving up to pimp out my apartment!

Strange I remember that they once said that the feature to move to another house without losing anything will be implemented before we get new wards in Ishgard and that people who have a house will get the first chance to move to the wards in Ishgard..(sorry don't have a quote right now) which for me meant that we will get wards and not only the apartments.

And I also hoped that these apartments would be in every city. :(

If they only do apartments in Ishgard, maybe they finally understood that we need true instanced houses so that everyone can have one...but I fear that these apartments will be nothing more than a small fc room. (They did need months to implement private housing which was nothing else than FC housing just without some features...soo I can already see that they need all this time to just implement something similar to a fc room..) If thats the case than those apartments will not be enough..I already feel that my small house is way to small for all those nice items..it is still better than owning nothing but such a small room would be nothing than another band aid..and people that want true houses for more space will still try to get one...(and lets not forget all those FCs that still want their houses)

Maybe if its only a room, make it quite big (like two floors in a small house) and make apartments for each city and let us be able to buy one in each city. This would mean four big apartments and this should be at least enough for decoration.

(We are only in the first expansion of a MMO that should last a decade or more...and yet we already have so many issues thanks to server space and other limitations..)

I am also finding two official different translations of how they are handling this. Was it a mistranslation at first or? seems to be a pretty big change, going from saying both are coming with a priority on Mansions (apartments) and later houses, to saying only 1 mansion (building) with 512 slots is coming. :\

A mansion in Ishgard seems fine. A, 'Mansion Apartment,' in Ishgard, less so. Having an outdoor area for chocobo stables and gardens feels vital to any sort of successful housing crisis solution. Without those, you can't realistically make a solution to the problem.

Considering how well done normal housing has been done...I'm expecting fc rooms just with a different style starting 'shell' than what we've seen.

I mean it took them over a year for them to add to the line of code that said only FC's could purchase houses that individuals can purchase housing too. When what we were supposed to get was something completely separate and much cheaper than fc houses.

Taking this long to copy/paste an FC house and modify the inside to allow random people to purchase rooms...yeah sounds about the right time frame.

It feels like the idea of Ishgard housing has been revised quite a lot since 3.0's initial launch. The original 3.0 MSQ heavily suggested/hinted at Idyllshire hosting the new housing ward, and my guess is that's where the apartment building will still be located.

That option to move houses seems to have fallen through the cracks and been dropped unfortunately.

The option to move was said to be sometime after 3.4 and we're not there yet.

I have a feeling they'll have "floors" of the aparment buildings that will act like wards, and each floor will have a lobby area with the local vendors, market boards, and all the other stuff you'd find in the open areas. That's my guess, at least. I just wonder if the apartments will have their own look or just be the same as the small, medium, and large houses we already have?

I always thought they'd attach an apartment building/entrance to the wards with a lobby area, some seating and chocobo stables outside and then a door/elevator that would go to the individual apartments. Given how they handled personal housing, it just feels like they're going to make apartments an FC house without the FC and you can only change your "apartment" (personal room). There's of course all sort of fun ideas I'm sure we all have swimming around our heads about what could be. I always hope they take it somewhere different, but we'll have to wait and see until the information starts pouring out near/at fanfest.
