If not a primal, I can see Anima being part of the Shadow of Mhach raid, just like they did with Ozma.
In fact, she seems perfect for that role since she has the ability to pull people into another dimension/ location ala Cerberus and Ozma.
Bring on Doomtrain for the next Mach raid, let Diabolos be the conductor. Oh, and Diabolos has to wear this hat.

SE releasing content at the risk of the more casual crowd complaining about being gated out(assuming you want this to go hand in hand with relic)
lol
We won't see Anima a boss I guess.
This is Anima, the spirits of the Heavensward relic weapons.

wait a second i thought anima was what was used to teleport in 1.0...ie that symbol thats still in the teleport list?
oh i see the cost is in p idk why i thought it was an omega-like symbol
Ah that's where you were looking. Yeah that's the currency icon for gil. Eorzeas version of $, €, ¥, £, or what have you.
While 1.0 was going down, Atomos sucked out the aether from the aetherytes. This caused us to be able to teleport to them for no cost on us. This may, lore-wise, still be the case. But the gil cost goes to the NPCs working at each of the camps to upkeep the place. A few NPCs in the main cities explain that if you chat with them.
That's actually an elemental though, the same elementals that exist in the Black Shroud and which maintain a compact with the mortals of Gridania. In 1.0 they were actual enemies that roamed the forest (and the player even had to fight one as a boss during the 1.0 Gridanian storyline) but now in ARR that form has been mostly replaced with generic FFXI-style 'sprites' and the actual fairy-like elemental only has physically (so far) shown up in a single CNJ class quest battle, as shown:

That was at least until the anima weapon quest. So yeah even that form is already in the game as something else.
And as Cana and ADVSS stated, anima is already in the game as a term to describe the body's tolerance to teleportation. In 1.0 this was used as the 'currency' for teleporting, which has been replaced by a gil tax and the 'anima tolerance' handwaved away that because the player's character has the Echo and Blessing of Light they therefore have considerably more tolerance to teleporting than others and thus can teleport over and over again with no apparent ill effect, but it is still mentioned by the gate guards near the aetherytes in each main city. So this use of the word 'anima' is still canon to the story as well.
Hence I'm afriad you simply will not see Anima as a Primal or summon in the game, none the less because I recall I while ago hearing that the development team were apparently wishing to actually move away from the Primals as an important story element, so I think we will begin to see less and less new Primals added, making a Primal version of Anima seem even less likely, I'm sorry.
But that's not https://youtu.be/M-QpnYvldmo
Anima and XIV's Ozma particularly the song inside of Ozma are the only things in FF that really unnerved me, she still spooks me a decade later.
Let me beat her up again!
If SE has any sense, they'll conclude the Anima Weapon questline with a solo trail against our Anima weapon... But no, we'll probably finish the quest off trading in a thing to finish the weapon and XIVs Relic quests will continue to cause me to die of boredom...
They've already moved away from the Primal focused story, when was the last time the MSQ had us face off against one? They're still going to put Primals in the game, I really doubt they'll just drop off completely... They just wish to move the MSQ away from "A Primal has been summoned! Stop it! Well done! Oh no, another Primal has been summoned! Stop it! etc.", that's what 2.# boiled down to and they've rightly seen fit to change that.
I also don't think it's impossible for us to have an Anima (concept + weapon) and Anima (Primal)... We already have two Primals based off actual people (Shiva and Thordan), so someone summoning a Primal based on a concept like Anima seems both possible and terrifying... Anima also doesn't have to be a Primal, the same justification that resulted in the new weapons being called Anima weapons could result in similar naming for a Voidsent or regular monster.
How about when you go and fight the hard/ex versions of the primals?
"Yep, they've been revived again, go do your thing" even though normal version there's mass panic
As for using anima even though the name has been used, they don't seem to mind using this guy a lot and changing his name, so giving a different looking monster with the same name as something else wouldn't hurt, right?
,
he's even called Valefor in crystal tower and he looks nothing like the original Valefor, no, NOT THAT ONE! This one! :D
Crystal Towers Valefore is just a model recycle from XI's dragon boss you fight with the Ahriman
iirc isn't there a quest in Mor Dhona where they mention a powerful primal called Valefor?
I do wonder if anyone would notice if trash monster in LoTA had their names changed to something else to make way for future things.
An anima bossfight? I'm still partial to the idea that because we're exposing an innocent spirit to so much carnage and bloodshed, it gets corrupted and goes insane, and due to all the power it has thanks to us, we need to defeat it.
Five bucks says the final step is essentially us having to defeat our Anima in a solo duty. Essentially a test to see if we are worthy to wield its final form.
Incidentially it'd be such a massive DPS check that only raid-tier people would be able to get it.
