I wonder

Is Square-enix still planning on cutting ps3 off from being able to play ffxiv come 4.0. If so how do players that still play on the ps3 feel about it now?

I assume you mean XIV.

Anyone who has played on PS3 and tried PS4 already know that its an amazing difference in play quality to the point that they would desperately want a PS4 to play XIV.

So I think, given that they have a year (?) to save up before 4.0, they should be happy to upgrade.

I'd imagine most PS3 players would generally understand, given the lifespan of the console, that it's an inevitability. I would think SE is going to accommodate them a little at some point. They could always do what XI did when the time comes and give those console players access to the PC version (or PS4 version, in XIV's case).

Is PS3 really holding it back? It's not like cutting PS3 out will all of a sudden give the game better graphics and whatnot. That would be ALOT of work I don't think they are willing to do. The most we would see is more little stuff... like hair.

Cutting out weaker consoles opens up more detailed future content. See GTA online when they dropped old gen consoles, content detail and size increased dramatically.

It would probably cost a little less on SE's end. Whether or not it would change much depends on what the bar for "playable low-grade PC" is to them after PS3 is dropped.

Ill gladly take any QoL that we currently can't have because of the ps3. They don't seem to want to offer anything that the ps3 can't have right now for the more powered machines even as an option so if dropping the ps3 gives us these things then so be it.

They said right before HW that they are cutting PS3 when 4.0 hits. I am tired of the PS3 limitations.

They never said its a certainty, but 4.0 is when the consideration begins. If there is still a rather healthy playerbase on it that they don't think would migrate to PS4/PC version then it won't be dropped.

I think people will still be able to play on PS3? but devs won't balance the game around PS3, so fps might drop a lot in some cases.
I'm hoping they will increase lighting, texture and shader quality.

its not cutting ps3 out of playing, its not having a ps3 version of the next expac. all ps3 version would be getting after would be bug fixes and qol patches.

They have never said "PS3 limitations" They always say servers limitations. Guys they should drop the servers so we have no limitations.

that is untrue. they arent doing anything in gta5 that wasnt possible on ps3. they just couldnt add more updates to it. on top of that, GTA has lacked much content AT ALL post ps3 with the exception of low riders (totally possible on ps3), the stupid boat, and now they have the executive stuff. But its not majorly dramatically detailed content at all. GTA5 is not a good example of how cutting the consoles opens up the content. All it did for Rockstar was make it so they wouldn't have to worry about how they designed the content because heists had already taken up so much of the memory. Like was said before....upgraded graphics and whatnot would take a considerable amount of work, work that SE has already made clear they have no interest in doing.

Yoshida said that aslong a % of players are PS3 players, they will not cut if off. I remember reading somewhere on Siliconera that alot of Japanese players still play XIV with their PS3.

If they dont bring next expansion to PS3, I still WONT play that game on my PS4!

Everyone looks so damn ugly flat on PS4, I dislike to play this game on my PS4 >_>

Would be nice if PS4 have screen size options like every PC and PS3 has!

you have said "ugly flat" everytime something like this comes up, but until you post something as proof, to me, you will remain a bad and be excluded from the next expansion.

People who act like this make me laugh. Keep thinking the ps3 is some amazing console, it had its time to shine and sadly now its just not powerful enough anymore. Time to move on.

*I still enjoy my ps3 but not for MMOs.*

PS3 doesn't have any options the PC and PS4 have...are you sure you aren't mixing them up somehow? PS3 is missing many HUD options, and PS4 has an option to give depth and detail to textures. The PS3 is slow...hardly loads anything....takes FOREVER to load what it does....the PS3 has no advantages period over the PS4 and PC....I know. I played PS3 since 2013's moonfire faire until Alexanders launch, and there is just no defending the PS3 here....
