To start off, I think Aquapolis is fine as-is. I don't think it's bad in any way. But, I feel like overall the system coulda been done a bit more elegantly.
My suggestion is that every Treasure Map should be able to open an Aquapolis portal, but at different spawn rates.
For example:

Why do this?
Right now, if it's not a Boarskin (Mariner Cloth for new glamour) or Dragonskin map, it's not worth your time to gather it. I think that's pretty silly, when there's a perfectly reasonable way to incorporate them into the system that made Dragonskin maps expensive and sought after.
This will probably get buried, but I'll feel better having posted my thoughts.

Aquapolis has been made to take up a team of DoW and DoM.
At least 4 people, the only map that require that amount of people to be cleared is the dragonskin map
You can solo everyother map
But if aquapolis pop out you won't be able to survive alone inside

Could you imagine how horrifying it would be to a low level group (I think maps start around lvl45) wandering into Aquapolis at i40?

I agree as far map gathering goes. I think it's only being able to gather one map per day that kills it. Maybe if they took all the map types that are available, scrambled them up into two or three categories, and then you can gather one map per category per day? I can think of several flaws with that idea but throwing it out there anyway.

There's really no real reason to get the other maps anyway even if they could spawn the Aquapolis since their drops are not that useful in the first place. I used to do the Wyvernskin ones frequently since they dropped materials I could use for weekly scrip crafting turn ins and could save me a bit of time. Now I max out on the dragonskin maps I can hold and then spend the rest of the week getting Wyvernskin so I can save the dragonskin for the weekend. It sounds like you just don't want to have to pick between the mariner cloth or the aquapolis?

No point with adding the portal to other maps for two reasons, first is economic reasons such as devaluing dragonskin maps while overvaluing easier ones to farm too much comparable to what the chest actually drops without the portal. Secondly level 40-50's would not be able to do the dungeon properly anyways. It is fine how it stands now both in keeping it limited to dragonskin maps at 50% chance to spawn and the older maps are adequate for what they cost while providing materials and gear appropriate to the level of them.
I disagree with people saying the older ones are worthless or that no-one does them, both statements are very much false. The older ones sell quite often still because people do them and the contents from them is usable and marketable, they still provide crafting materials and also gear appropriate to the level of the map. They cost less to buy and sell but their value is comparable to the value on the majority of the items within while at the same time they can be soloed by people of the correct level for the map itself. Some of those from lower level maps are also still worth a fair amount too. Wyvern ones for example also now drops anima parts like for example Unidentifiable Shells. Some others drop things like unhidden type maps, orchestration sheets, large amounts of shards/crystals etc, high value crafting materials and such plus sometimes loot like minions which can potentially be high value. -

You just need to look at what happened after 3.3 to Boarskin Maps because of the Relic quest & the glamour mats - they were more expensive than Dragonskin. All SE needs to do is occasionally reboot the uses for glamour mats & maps of any level can be desirable.

Thus conclusion.. those items are useless as well.
There's plenty of items in the game that are 'useless', especially if you're high level.
You're not suggestiong they're all being changed as well, no?
Then the maps may as well stay as they are. Not every item ingame has to be of 'worth'.
