I know some people are against it, but it would practically pay for itself to add (here and there) purchasable hairstyles, and features. I would prefer nothing that would be advantageous in game, just pure cosmetics.

Hated it in Maple Story, I'd hate it here.
Just my 2 gil.
No thanks. No type of cash shop should be in ANY p2p MMO. Now perhaps, for subscribing each month you earn 10 XIV points which you can use to buy vanity items I'm fine with. Never cash, reward for being a veteran, sure.
I'm in for that, some extra tattoo or scar woudn't hurt, and it would help support FFXIV but... it have to be really good ;D
Like it, hate it, it is all the rage. Might as well ask for more.
No.
asdfasdf
Simple ........ NOOO. cash shop begins small and just grows and grows and grows till you have to use it or you fail ><
Veteran reward program (which is long overdue, seasonal events don't cut it) > vanity cash shop
Im down for the veteran reward shop, don't agree with an actualy cash shop when you are already paying to play though.
Would definately like to see a vanity item interface just to add a bit of extra customisation, they could build this feature into the manaquinn system.
Cash shop, selling leve allowances, anima restoration and more retainers.
This shouldnt be one of the first things they should work on in 2.0 tbh.
"Hey, here's this 2.0 we have prepared for you...aaaalso we worked on this new Cash Cow System(tm) to take the rest of your money while you try to decide whether to play this game or not. Don't worry, we have our priorities right."
Down the line when things have stabilized... sure.
Put those silly monster mounts in the cash shop so we can know who is foolish enough to spend cash on a mount.
ask for it now then cry later.
i say HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
would it be wrong of me if i kick anyone who buys anything from the cash shops from my groups? lolol
maybe we can charge a nominal fee for him to stay in party :)
Cash shops have NO place whatsoever in a P2P game.Subscription fees or cash shop, pick one; you don't get both.
I've quit several MMORPGs due to that sort of double-dipping nonsense.
The day when cash shop is added is the day the only updates we will get weekly are new cash shop items...
It's in every game that has a cash shop, they don't update on content at all, or rarely, and only update their cash shop like daily... All developer (or a lot of it) effort and resources go to develop the cash shop instead of new content, because that's how they make profit.
Of course, I won't be here as well if there's a cash, I pay to play and expect acess to the whole game. (All hairstyles included)
I wouldn't mind it, as long as it doesn't give you an advantage over other players.
Uh, people here really need to differ-.-
A cash shop for cosmetic stuff in a P2P game is fine.
It does not mean playing is no longer possible without buying stuff from there,
it does not mean we only get CS updates instead of real patches.
Read the OP again, he did not say "I wish FFXIV goes free2play with a CS"
Only free2play games rely overly on a CS.
Look at WoW - it's P2P and does not rely on the Cash shop at all (people would rage if that happened) but still, they have stuff like..cool looking mounts you can buy for $60-$200.
It's purely aestethic, nothing you need, but everybody who is stupid enough to buy it "just for the looks" is happy.
So what's wrong with the idea of the OP?
Don't bring you F2P experiences here. Show me just one P2P MMORPG with a CS which made it so you have to rely on the cs plus paying a monthly fee.
I'm sure you won't find one.
Although I like the reward idea too.
As long as the shop was for future aesthetics only like tattoos, hair style changes, a glowing aura, or what not. I wouldn't mind. I absolutely however refuse to play a game that supports cash shops that sell items, exp boosts, weapons, or what-ever.
Why are so many people in favor of paying extra for cosmetic changes? We're already paying for the game here, we shouldn't have to pay extra for content, especially if the only thing it offers is cosmetic changes. Simple additions like that should be expected to be included in the game with the monthly fee we're already paying.
Why should one hairstyle cost money over another one that's included in the game? Why do you want to pay extra for such basic features?
And paying extra for things like cool mounts or larger additions like that? Things like that should be earned by playing the game and overcoming challenges, not by the amount of extra cash left in your wallet.
If I buy something like that with real money, it isn't satisfying, it's bittersweet. There was no challenge and I'm left a bit poorer. It's much more satisfying to feel like you've earned it by defeating a difficult boss or quest line tied into the game itself.
This is why I refer to the whole issue as a design flaw. Changing your hair is a basic feature that should not have a premium associated with. These are suppose to be immersive persistent worlds right? Well I don't know about you guys but I can change my beard, and my hair, in the real world at my leisure, and I don't have to pay to do that. A pair of clippers and some scissors go along way.
I can dye my clothes if I want to, or buy any color of clothes I want.
You get my drift.
These aren't options one should pay a per item or per change premium for. These are just basic features that were not included in the design of the game, making it an inherent flaw.
You could look at it a greedy developers setting themselves up to nickel and dime you to death, but then I would say its a developer flaw + a design flaw.
First off, I think this is like the 10th thread of it's kind. Nobody wants it but a select few.
Games that are P2P that implement vanity items turn out distracting from development on free content in the game. Yoshida has already told us it takes them 6 months to design a gearset, now you want them to waste that time so people can look pretty?
It failed in LotRO and forced the game into F2P Microtransactions
It failed in Aion and started causing NCSoft to focus a bulk of their patches on new costumes. Granted it is a KMMO and vanity there is everything.
Simply NO!
no cash shop pls. Idc which kind of goods would be sold.
I'll name one.
Phantasy Star Universe JP
Also, I like decorating my character in games more than getting good stats.
Why should I be required to pay more than you? Are you someone special or something? That is not fair.
I rather have cash shop with weapons than cosmetic stuff.
The only people who are for cash shop are those that expect items they don't want to buy in the cash shop anyway. Well guess what, some people like these items and would like access to them with the monthly fee. Just like you would like access to good gears with your monthly fee.
let me just point out the following
no cash shop =
no server transfers
no character name changes
no race changes
those are cash shop items for those who dont realize this
just because people dont like the idea of the abilityt o buy things with cash, doesnt mean it shouldnt happen in some form or another
EVERY MMO hs a cash shop in some form or another, the secret to it is not to not have one, but to do it correctly
cosmetic/vanity items that have 0 effect on gameplay whatsoever are ok for p2p games
just because you dont want to have to spend money on something(especialy something that has no effect on the game itself) does not mean it should not exist
and the people who whine about this probly hate the pre order bonus which cost extra to get too(ive seen several games where people go out of there way to buy 5-6 versionbs of the game from different sources to get every pre order bonus, and then others turn around and complain its not fair)
It doesn't have effect on the game itslef for YOU. I enjoy it, it does effect my game a lot if I have to spend much more than a monthly fee in order to enjoy the game.
And it's not that I don't want to "spend money on something", because I pay to play I already spend money on something in the first place.
I don't want to spend extra money in order to enjoy the game.
if you were enjoying a game before they did it
and all of a sudden you cant enjoy it cuz you cant have something
that sounds like a personal issue rather then something to do with the game itself
Roleplayers are the whiniest lot when it comes to this type of stuff, since it doesnt affect the actual gameplay AT ALL, people who only care about gameplay aspects themselves wont care
but anyone who falls into the camp of "if i cant have it no one should" usualy seems to be the ones who complain the most about it when its a non gameplay item
and i hate to say it, you sound like one of those types
"omg he has a pet, that does obsolutely nothing, but its cute and i want it but i refuse to pay 3 dollars to get it, therefore no one should be allowed to buy it and it should br given to everyone free"
That's not what I'm saying (and I don't roleplay at all so no idea what you mean)
And I never said we should have it free.
They could make actual content to get a cute pet in the game than a cash shop.
How does it not affect gameplay? By that logic, anything graphical in game is meaningless and should be cash shoped.
they should have content that rewards this stuff too
but that doesnt mean its not ok to make cash shops for stuff also
if your against it, thats fine, i understand what it means to be against this type of thing, all that means is that you do not have to get it
but to say you can no longer have fun because you cant have something is just plain rediculous, thats the way 5 year olds view things
One of two options
1) cash shop, but free to play game
OR
2) no cash shop, and a monthly fee.
Anything that does both of these is being cheap for the sake of greed. Don't encourage it. I was hoping to see FFXIV go completely f2p a la Guild Wars, but after spending so much money on making the game better, that seems pretty unlikely.
maybe it should have some event items that we missed, like the eggs hats i missed the event but would like to buy it
or stuff like server/name change, hairstyles, tatto ..etc
These type of features always lead to completely ridiculous items that have no place in the game. i.e. Angel Wings, Outfits from Famous characters in other game, and those stupid headbands with pompoms on springs..
server transfer - it's a service that can be provided for a fee regardless whether there's a cash shop or not, the two are not inherently tied together.
character name changes - shouldn't be allowed anyway
race changes - don't care
also, really, EVERY mmo has a cash shop eh? not sure if serious, lol.
personally I don't believe a subscription-based games should double-dip with a cash shop, as it can diminish the perceived value of the subscription and push the game devs. towards a rather unfavorable development focus.
ultimately it boils down to how the company wants to monetize their service
As Sten would put it, "No."
