I would REALLY dig a better Glamour system...

So, as someone looking to leveling a new character, the Glamour system is basically unusable. The reason is; you replace gear so frequently, there's just no way you'd be able to keep your appearance as you want it. Which is a shame, given how many promotional or Collector's Edition items can technically be used at any level (ie. the Baron's Helm or Circlet, not to mention the Cloud Strife gear that I just got).

Also it would be awesome to have some kind of "Wardrobe" to access all of the gear you've equipped, without having to hold on to the items themselves.

I would like my healers to look different and my tanks, so my drk doesn't look excactly like my warrior for example or whm looks like my sch.

I think all these things are things most players want. Many of the reasons they give in relation to these topics tend to end up being issues with Server limitations. While its a valid issue it's one I certainly hope they are considering ways of resolving. Regardless, the noise we have had from them most recently is that it isn't something we will be seeing anytime soon sadly.

We all would... The whole system is needlessly bloated as it stands, right now it heavily favours crafters rather than the user...

I just want to be able to switch glamours on the fly, if I'm in Coerthas perhaps I glamour a fur coat on, if I'm at Costa de Sol, perhaps a swimsuit... Can't do that though... No, I need to carry any gear I want to glamour and I need very specific glamour prisms... This means I can only real change glamour at a market board or retainer bell...

A comparison I like to make is self repairs. That is a nice convenient system for the user; You can just carry a stack of the higher tier Dark Matter, and you can repair everything. Don't even need to switch to the correct craft (although we used to, which was horrible), if you've got it leveled you can just repair gear. Meanwhile, not only do I have to use a grade 2 glamour prism, I have to use a goldsmithing specific one... It's just needlessly convoluted...

If I could just carry a single stack of the highest tier glamour prisms, and that's me set for everything, I'd be a lot happier with the system... Though that says nothing about the inventory issues with carrying the actual gear I want to glamour around... That's really absurd, especially when SE charges people extra for more inventory space to hold such gear... A wardrobe or glamour log is a suggestion that has come up plenty of times, apparently SE would rather just give us more inventory space instead though... It's a shame, because I don't need this gear... Not as gear anyway... I want this stuff solely for glamours, nothing more... The stats and ability to actually equip it are completely meaningless to me at this point, I'd rather just burn it into a wardrobe and have a more convenient glamour system...

At the very least, I wish they'd let us save glamours to Job stones or something... I'm sick of shared gear ruining potential glamours... Just let me save something like an AF glamour to the Job stone so Paladin looks like Paladin and Dark Knight looks like Dark Knight... This is particularly galling with the upcoming shared DoL/DoH gear... I like the current red scrips gear look, but for example, I'm only going to be able to have Botanist retain that look, while Fisher and Miner are forced into the new set because of how inept the glamour system is... If I was able to switch glamour more freely, that would be less of a problem, though it would be annoying to switch glamour each time I switch Job... A specific equipment slot that holds a stone we save glamours to would probably be ideal really... You can slap a glamour on there, then just equip it and the fact that you're changing gear while you're leveling means nothing, because the glamour is on a stone, not the gear...

I totally agree. We should be able to save a *look* after glamouring it and then glamor again and save another look. I hate having all my tanks look the same or my blm and summoner and so on.

Excactly and you would like to have your DRK look bad ass and full of ''darkness'', while PLD would be more holy for example. Just throwing out how people think. I would love to wear different gear sets on my tank, I love the HA gear but I would love to wear something else on my pld, like the 110 pvp lion pvp set.

I honestly just wish the system was revamped to not use those crystals at all. Most games just gives it's players " skins" and you can just put those skins over any piece of gear. And all you have to do is equip it, no other system needed. That way you can just take it off the piece and use it again when you upgrade your gear. Why didn't they just use a system like that instead of what we have?

TBH I don't like the actual glamour system at all, the fact that you have to reglamour your stuff every time you change/upgrade your gear is annoying. Having 2 character sets - one for stats and one for looks - would be so much better.

Changes I'd like to see made to the glamour system

1. A glamour log, that saves all green/blue/purple gear your character has been bound. Keep glamour prism requirement for actually applying the glamour.

2. Ability to save glamours to gearsets instead of gear. So many jobs/classes share gear now that it makes it nigh impossible to glamour job specific gear without your other jobs in that role having to go glamourless.

3. Remove glamour prism grades, or at least make it so grade 5 can be used in place of all lower grades. The grades are nigh pointless since all 5 grades use the exact same recipe and have same crafting stat requirements, so they end up just taking more inventory space than the system should.

I've heard the same server space limitations, but really hope that someday (soon), they are able to upgrade servers and streamline the code to the point that at least all 3 items I brought up can be implemented.

Wardrobe will be nice. If they want it to boost crafting more, they can have an item "sacrificed" to be added to the wardrobe too.
Not much use having them lying around either.

Yeah, I'm to the point where sacrificing items once to glamour would be a smarter idea than the current Prism system. Atleast then we wouldn't have to throw stuff we're not currently using over to our retainers where it collects dust. 80% of my inventory and retainer inventories goes to holding glamour items and crafting ingredients. The situation is as far from ideal as we can get.

Yeah, I'd gladly sacrifice gear to a wardrobe or something. Honestly once you have your tanks past 53 you really have no need for the original relic gear or anything below except for looks. I know my retainer has at least 4-5 pages of just glamour items.

I like the Secret World way. You use an item and from then on it becomes a item listing in a menu for that location. If I want to change hats, I just open the character screen and select hats and choose which hat I want to use and the game applies it.

When i played RIFT, (i haven't played it for a looooong time) i enjoyed the way they handled it. There was like a slot for costumes etc and even if you changed your gear, it wouldn't change the costume look that you had. If you can even understand what i mean lol

Actually I'd say Runescape - of the MMOs I've played - had the best glamour system. It didn't cost anything, you didn't have to do anything, other than being able to equip the item you're superimposing. In this game though I'd probably say just adding the ability to craft your own reusable clear prism (untradeable, _50__ charges) would be helpful. Seems kinda dumb if you were a lvl 60 crafter in i180 crafting gear and still not being able to make something so innocuous. :confused:

Not only they should improve it but let Disciple of Magic glamour the gear instad of being job specific unless its class gear same goes for disciple of war for people that want a more or less tanky look... Just my opinion.

yes the Glamour system needs changes its way to clunky, only idea I have is allow us to make a glamour set on some new "Glam Sphere" (yes reference to FF10-2) I shall elaborate so as not to confuse or mislead anyone:

with a blank "Glam Sphere", revelant gear for glam & lv of prisim's eather speck to a specific NPC or use the sub-command on the "sphere"
gear is glamed to sphere using normal glam method
Equip "Sphere" to its new slot on character screen (bellow boots oposite of Job Stone)
"Glam Sphere" overides the glamour on all gear it is able to that it has avalible (so if the sphere only had 1 body item in it, it would only over-ride the body glam of the gear set it is equiped with)

Even set it so if X Glam sphere can't be fully shown due to it having wrong class (like using a "glam sphere" made for PLD on WHM) it just doesn't show that part & uses whatever u have manually glamed on the gear its-self instead. it maybe a more complicated method but it worked for the Jap version of White Knight Chronicles 2 (eng never got the 10 side-quest's that let u make u'r own "Glam sphere" granted theirs overided all gears looks & not whichever it had) & yes that game had ZERO glamouring or dyeing aside from that 1 side-quest, which quite honestly FF14 felt like a step up in every way when I came here next.

edit: also just added it as a possibility, it personaly sounds more of a programing hassle then some of the other idea's I've seen on these forums

The sad truth is;

A) The 1.0 spaghetti engine is probably too integrated to make any changes to the glamour system without an entire overhaul.

and....

B) Retainer renting system.

Glamour should be done in this game the same as it is handled in DC Universe Online. Once you've equipped a "style" you can simply choose the particular area you wish to change the look of and bring up a list of styles you've equipped, or used as items, and then pick the one you want and the game gives whichever area you were changing the look of the style you chose while not affecting what gear you have equipped.

For the glamour system to improve in anyway, I think they will need to isolate the glamour pointer from being an item attribute first. I sincerely hope the current implementation is only a temporary band aid...
