Lack of proper midcore content in this game?

Is it me or does it seem like there's an abundance of two types of battle content in this game? You have Casual content (24 man raids, dungeons, and story mode trials) and then there's Hardcore content (Savage SCOB, Savage Gordias, Savage Midas).

The Casual content is catered to people who don't have time for statics and just want to enjoy the content without being too difficult and still get rewarded. The Hardcore content is aimed for people who want a great challenge and willing to put a large amount of time and effort into the game to surpass that challenge, they are willing to form static groups, minmax their gear, and study how to optimize their jobs to the fullest for that Hardcore content.

But what about the people in-between, the midcore audience? People who want something harder than "expert" dungeons and 24 man raids, but also don't want to commit to a static schedule and minmax their job playstyle and gear to clear that content at release?

Don't bother with the second post. This has been something discussed to death. We know the midcore content is nonexistent and SE doesn't seem to be doing anything about it. Even the 3.3 content is designed for casual players(maps, palace). Most we'll get is Nidhogg EX. Scratch that, that's ALL we'll get.

Extreme trials seems to fit the midcore audience. It's not hard enough to require a decent static & it can be easily done in party finder, but it's also not easy enough where people can slack off during the fight and still win. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much midcore content to tackle on as a midcore player.

For example, you have Bismarck and Ravana Extreme which provided a decent challenge when they came out. But now that echo is added and more people these days are using vastly superior and newer tomestone gear, it's not so much of a challenge anymore. Now you have Thordan and Sephirot Extreme, they are considered to be more difficult than Bismarck and Ravana Extreme. However with time those trials will soon follow the same path as Bismarck and Ravana Extreme.

As better tome gear and echo gets added, the challenge becomes less apparent and eventually there's no incentive to clear that piece content other than experiencing it for the first time or farming it for mounts/glamour. What do you think?

We used to have midcore content. Back in 2.0, clearing AK was a moderate challenge (especially pre-nerfs Demon Wall), and WP was less so but still not a complete faceroll. And once upon a time, LotA was moderately challenging in terms of numbers and mechanics.

But then people complained the game was too hard. So now we are where we are.

Midcore content just generally doesn't work.
People outgrow it and have no need for it. People that still want old content will be hurried along with nerfs to get to the endgame content, which is the natural progression from the middle game.

Palace of the Dead seems nifty though, considering your level and ilvl won't matter. Perhaps this is the answer to what we seek? Time will tell.

Oh and you can get around the 1000 character limit by simply editing your post.

It depends how peoples define "midcore" as to me extreme trials and first 2 fights in savage are midcore but others might not see those as an midcore specially savage ones.

I throughly miss the old original 2.0 dungeons. Maybe it was just because it was our first taste of new content but they were actually fun and made you act as a team to get through them. People still did speed runs and stuff but at least the dungeons weren't face rolls like they are now. Its sad to see dungeons so laughably easy for no reason.

AK and WP were difficult at the time because it was impossible to outgear them until much later, since everyone was on a level playing field starting out. Now, as dungeons are released, we outgear them by quite a bit. I'm sure going in at minimum ilvl would sate a lot of thirst for people wanting a more difficult experience.

Exactly why they should be tuning the dungeons for RELEVANT players and not totally new people who aren't even at cap level yet. Going in at minimum ilvl should offer more rewards and not be there for the sake of being "harder" people want everything so damn easy and done so quickly its pathetic.

If it's nonexistent, then it's something worth addressing. They are losing out on players if they decide to alienate that crowd. I don't think that's right from a business sense and a player sense too.

Doesn't sound like it, they said in the live letter that since they won't be enforcing any party makeup that the dungeons will be easier than normal dungeons. Perhaps it will be time-gated so it isn't crushed in a single day.

But you can also just go in alone. That's the only way you'd be ranked, too.
