Emnity Question

I've recently started playing as a conjurer but am also leveling an arcanist. While playing as the arcanist, I've been doing leves for experience. I was just doing one now where I had to weaken a mob and then soothe them (dodo's I think). So, I start it up and it is going fine and then I notice my carbuncle is just sitting there wailing on a "feral dodo" (which is marked as aggressive (has triangle). Now, I understand why it is doing that because I have it set to attack. However, the feral dodo is doing nothing. It just sits there getting killed. Eventually it dies... never even tries to fight back. I start the leve again, and immediately the carbuncle and a feral dodo engage in combat (which is what I'd expect).

Is this a bug? Or am I not understanding how the mechanics work. It looks to me like the mob glitched out and refused to fight and just itself die.

put carbuncle on obey or follow, er i think chocobos put on follow, yeah the ai is stupid they will keep attacking that one till its dead if you dont command them to stop

Make a macro that says:

/macroicon guard pet
/pac guard
/pac steady
/pac guard

Hitting that should stop carby with what he's doing.

Hitting just the action for Heel might work as well. :O

I just started playing the Arcanist; hadn't really looked at the pet options much yet. I'm not a big fan of pet classes, I just want to be a white mage! :)

I understand why the carbuncle automatically attacked the mob (and made the leve a pain in the neck) and will use guard (thanks for posting the macro and advise). However, I still don't understand why the feral dodo mob didn't fight back. It just sat there happily as the carbuncle slowly killed it. I don't believe it had an enmity on me. I just kind of sat there watching as it never fought back. That's where I'm confused if there is a glitch or bug or something? All I can think of is that another had been killed by the dodo, the leve went into failed mode and the mob stopped attacking in that period of time before the duty failed completely. Still kind of new trying to figure this out.

Okay, I figured it out!

Once the mob was pacified it would no longer fight back. However, the carbuncle just keeps attacking the pacified mob until it dies... and then the duty fails :( So, I can complete this by setting it to guard (to keep control over it), and then telling it to stop attacking after pacification.

Mystery solved... next question... is a pet supposed to keep attacking a pacified mob? I did a bit of searching on the forums and found that logged as a bug, but that was like 2 years ago... is this still a bug or just accepted mechanics?

I don't think it's a bug. What they need to do is change it from pacification to perm sleep. If something is slept or bound, your pets will ignore it.

While I'm quite open minded about a lot of things, making a decision to stop playing a game for something as minor as this doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. Is it irritating? Yes, but there's an easy way to work around it and there's so much to experience in this game that FAR overshadows what you have encountered so far. Good luck in where you go and what you do but leaving for this reason is rather short sighted.

My mistake. Again not a bug, being pacified means it won't physically attack you back. Arcanists and chocos were added after leves, so they just never anticipated it as a problem. They give you the tools to fix it with your pet skills of guard and steady. That's all they needed to do.

not a bug, the ai just seems weird like that, as everyone said, on higher difficulties random mobs will spawn and attack them while youre trying to pacify new ones, and it gets hectic. if you ever have your chocobo companion out for these, dont forget to command them to "follow" as theyll also continuously attack the harmless pacified mob until it is dead and you have to wait around for a new one to spawn

Its sort of at the spot where bug and mechanics meet. For these leves your pet probly should stop attacking when you pacify the enemy(outside of this one style of leve, it will almost never come up again). However, there are other things that can apply a temporary pacify effect and you wouldnt want to stop attacking in those cases. Rawrz was right that if the devs changed the effect to a sleep one for these quests only it would solve the problem, but that does seem like a low priority fix. Luckily if your primary goal is to be a white mage then you dont have to spend too much time with carbunkle. Only 15 levels now to unlock the class, and probly a second run later on to finish cross-class skills(dont forget thaumaturge when you get to this step!). And as long as your conjuror level is higher, youll get the armory exp buff to make it faster.

I just put my chocobo in healer stance when I do these types of leve quests. It never attacks anything as a result.

Heh, wait till you cast blizzard 2 on trash mobs and see Carby stop attacking anything and everything you're trying to kill. Silly squirrel!

You can hit Heel anytime you want carby to stop attacking. The macro provided earlier, will cancel the attack, and put him back on guard so he will automatically start attacking anything that is attacking you or him.

He's probably gone, but just for the hell of it and so other people that come across this know what's going on, I'm gonna leave my post here:

For the record, pets DO stop attacking when you soothe a leve target like this because combat ends at that moment. The specific problem here is that soothing doesn't remove DoTs, which Arcanists always use, so you get back into combat with the monster, so your pet goes back to attack it unless you command otherwise. It is annoying, but you could just not use a pet for these leves. It's not that big of a deal.

If this is too much of an annoyance for someone, then I'm not sure what to tell them. Every single MMO will have SOMETHING quirky like this, and I don't know what MMO doesn't. FFXIV has been by far the least buggiest MMORPG I've ever played.
