Dual Wielding//Character customization

I see this topic discussed a lot and I would like to bring it up again in hopes they might add this to the game.

1) Dual Wielding!!! (specifically for Paladin) Pls pls pls give us the option to replace our shield with second sword, giving us more dps for off tanking and soloing missions, leve's ect.

2) Along side that, i like MMO's that have extensive character customization to make a truly unique avatar, FFO is awesome for that, but i would like the ability to customize the positioning of my sword(s) I'd like the Paladin to holster the sword on his back like a dark knight can.

3) Lastly as far as avatar customization, i'd like to see some "simple" clothing for glamour added to all classes. Things like dyeable plain t-shirts, vnecks, muscle shirts that can go in place of other shirts that come standard on certain coats like the Bohemian Coat or Commanders Coat.

Neither 1 nor 2 will ever be implemented.

Different weapon archetypes are reserved for new jobs. Dual swords could be an entirely different class. Plus they would have to reanimate every single skill to accommodate such a change.

Animations and such are also why you won't see PLD sword on the back.


As for 3, that's certainly possible.

Would it really be such a big job to re-animate holstering a paladin sword on a back??

And if dual swords isnt an option bcc of the re-animation of ALL moves...what about adding the option to equip a second sword in the character screen, and adding a new skill that USES that sword with high dps...? that sounds reasonable yes? Then u can animate one move instead of two.

Except that it still makes no sense, from a role perspective, or even lore perspective.

PLD is supposed to be a shield Knight. They're not going to suddenly abandon that identity and get a second sword. There's no need to increase their DPS for off tanking or solo content, they can already do both just fine as is.

I agree that the updates and new abilities they gave us Paladins are awesome and your right. But i dont care too much about the lore...i dont like the look of the shield users, i personally like one handed sword users. I would just like the option is all. I get what your saying about abandoning the identity and all that. But i think giving us that option would be really nice to those who wanna be a little more unique. I dont like restrictions! lol. They dont have to change it and make it mandatory. Just give us the option for those who want it, even if its just for glamour and appearance.

The mere fact that they said (in regards to even just having an invisible shield) that they don't want it to look weird, especially when it comes to skills that use shields (Shield Lob, Bash, Swipe), just makes the idea of having a sword instead just be astronomically improbable

Yeah i think i saw that somewhere too. I wouldn't mind honestly if they made the shield (or a glamour for the shield) more like a buckler on the arm? Kinda like Tidus from ffx? That would be nice, i would enjoy that.

In a perfect world, if they come out with a different class OF Paladin (basically a whole new class) that allows us to use 2 swords and changes up our skills to be a dedicated off tank? that would be amazing...

If that doesnt work, adding a new lvl 70 skill that uses dual swords would awesome. (At the price of un-equipping the shield and losing shield bash and swipe)

If THAT is still unacceptable....simple adding a small shield (arm buckler) to glamour our giant shields and allowing us to holster the paladin swords on our backs would be sweet. I would be very happy with that.

Invisible shields dont make sense no...but smaller ones would be great! That seems reasonable yes?

But if they have animators who animated a dark knight and paladin in the first place this isnt beyond there abilities...if enough ppl want it, then why not?

Because it takes time and resources, which could be used elsewhere for other things with higher demand

Like i said i dont animate, i appreciate the hard work they put into the game, its my fav MMO...in fact its the only MMO ill play. I love FF games. I honestly just want the options to have my character look the way I want him to look. And for others to have that as well who feel the same. V_V

I can see your point about changing the animations for ALL abilities if they gave us dual wielding....thats like asking them to re-invent the wheel as far as paladin skills. But adding a skill that uses that? and a small buckler shield? That doesnt seem to unreasonable. And there are enough ppl i feel that would want that too. Seems like a good compromise to me. They have done bigger crazier things.

There's already Dual Wielding - they're called Ninja's (.../sar)

In all honesty, I don't think there'll be a dual wielding class. I personally can't see it. Though I could see that they'd might make a weapon that occupies both the weapon and shield slot whereas the shield slot will be a second weapon for defending/parrying.

Again, I can "see" it as a possibility, but never implemented.

You say you don't care for the lore of the game much, yet you're trying to change such a huge thing for Paladin? That....doesn't make much sense. Things in game need to follow the lore that's associated with it, just throwing it out the window because you think something looks 'cooler/better' would ruin the spirit of the game, as well as how something is set up.

When I think Paladin, I think sword/shield, someone who protects others. Not 'lets use a second sword cause shields are boring!' Plus if you didn't know, Paladin's shield oath used to reduce damage by 20%, now it's 15% and tank attack is based off Str and Vit.

It doesn't mean it needs to break the lore, remember that.

And there are bucklers in the game, half of them are for either blm/healers only, or the super low level ones that Paladin can equip that's more for mages due to the stats. There are also three Escutcheon shields that are based around the three grand companies that are for getting 500,000 of that grand company's seals.

think the ninja should allow you to customize both hands in which dagger to be used as well. Make it an actual dual weapon class with both hands focused on a weapon and stat. Could come up with unique glamours as well.

I personally would love to see even bigger shields. Ones that look like you're putting a huge wall in front of you.

Would like to see dual guns for machinist too if its possible :D

100% shocked your character isn't named Kirito. Yet another 'suggestion' that flies in the face of the game's long established mechanics with little sense or reason other than you believe it would "look cool." Anyways, while I disagree entirely with your weird desire to turn Paladin into a DPS and strange want of having your sword holstered differently for no reason, I do appreciate your effort to defend your opinion.

- If ninja could customize the way you could hold a weapon that would be cool, i'd like that and possibly would consider leveling up as a Ninja.

- Yeah ive looked at the bucklers in the game, still too big for me, i'd like one that looks more like an arm guard piece of armor than an actual shield. Right now ive made peace with de-quipping my shield when im running around doing main story quests, fates and all that. And if i get into trouble or do a dungeon where others are relying on me, then i'll whip out the shield. I do think the Holy shield and Zodiac Shields are really cool looking, and i DO LIKE the lore of the Paladin. Protecting and fighting for others. I would just do it in a different way lol.

- Def not naming my avatar Kirito lol, there's like 1000 of those out there, and Kirito as far as im concerned is "another guy" from another game, and he's not me.

But Kirito does use the style of swordplay i like. Same as Lancelot from the movie King Arthur. Ive taken Kendo and Dual Sword training as hobbies as a kid into my teens. And while i understand the reasons and points some of you make for not wanting to mess with the spirit of the game, and how we need to respect the lore. (Which i believe as well otherwise there is no structure) I also believe at the same time that a truly great MMO will feature as much customization as possible when it comes to style of play and aesthetics to allow us as players to make a unique non "cookie cutter" avatar. (And im also not saying that we have cookie cutter avatars, the awesome customization is one of the biggest reasons i choose FFO as my MMO to play, just wanna see a few more little things added)

If i want to holster my sword on my back? i should be able to do that, if i want it on the left or right side? I should be able to do that. If i wanna be an OT who uses two swords, i think i should be able to do that. And i can only imagine how HARD and difficult it must be for game developers to make an MMO as structured and fun and unique as possible and all the stuff they have to contend with. But tech and customization increases every year with every patch, and more and more talented writers and designers are being trained every year and if enough people want something in a game, im confident those talented individuals will figure out a way to either give us that stuff, or something very close to it while maintaining the structure and lore so it doesn't essentially ruin the game...which non of us want.

So im simply putting it out there, for me and others like me, that we would like to see dual wielding or a skill added to Paladin that uses dual wielding if equipping a second sword instead of a shield. (Possibly replacing some of the shield skills) It would be a neat thing to see at like level 70 or 80 or 100 in the future...The ultimate Paladin. Or like some people say, create a second class, or an "off class to Paladin" that uses this style. (And i am thinking in terms of Paladin only bcc thats what I play, someone mentioned dual guns for Machinist which would be sweet too!) Along with the ability to further customize the look and clothing and holstering of weapons so that my Paladin will look and be, and play different that Joe-whoever's Paladin next to me. While still maintaining the game mechanics of a tank.

I will be leveling my Dark Knight up after, i just dont care for the magic skills and the lore of the Dark Knight, and how "slow" the sword swings when attacking (i know this may sound stupid to some, and no disrespect to ppl who use Dark and there main class) for me its the little things. I love FFO, i never played MMO's until i discovered this one. I love Final Fantasy, i think ARR did an AMAZING job bringing this game back and making ppl happy, and i appreciate the work they put into listening to us players and working so hard to give us what we would like in a game while still balancing those wants with structure.

So what you're saying is "I want this, because I wanna be edgy different and so this should happen SE."

I'm sorry as a PLD, I don't want to wield two swords. How the frick am I suppose to shield lob and bash with two swords? OT there ARE mechanics where the OT needs to have stun ready for stuff and be ready to provoke off the MT to soak damage. Where would two swords fit in to that? When you're meant to be a secondary meat shield?

And the "slowness" of the DRK's sword is because of weight of the sword vs movement. A+ for SE for being reasonable enough to try to make it realistic instead of making it a slashing maniac.

I'd rather SE work on the new classes than spend resources on edgy /cpose of weapons and goofy af double sword tanks who have oviously taken a tank buster to the face one too many times and now think they are a DPS.

No, your over simplifying it, i think you missed my point, the way i would like to see this implemented doesn't TAKE AWAY another Paladins ability to use there shield and do what you described. Think of it like an add-on to the Paladin for those who want it. For those who dont? Nothing changes. But the option is there for us to CHOOSE. More options = Good, but again along with what I said above, im sure the dev team would come up with a good way to do this (if they ever were to) so that it would make ppl happy who wanted the update, but also not screw up game mechanics.

Boot em down like in the movie 300? tons of ways! Use your imagination, coming up with a new stun isnt impossible. Dont hate the dreamers!

Oh also i know WHY the DARK is slower with the weight of that monster sword, and thats realistic! obv! im jus saying its not my style! i like faster sword play. But thats a personal thing. Just making a point as to why im not all about the Dark Knight when it has a few features closer to what im asking for over a Paladin. Like DPS and Sword on back.

Also i agree, if they came out with a new class that is DPS, or a new tank that is specifically built to be an OT that uses dual swords? I would totally go for that! So we will see! But it all starts with discussions and suggestions.

Dual-wielding is cool, but just because you like it, doesn't mean it has to be in the game.
Besides, Rogues and Ninjas already dual-wield.

And as for dyeable muscle shirts, look for Hempen Undershirt (pictured below, dyed green). It doesn't look exactly like a muscle shirt, but it's close enough.

it doesnt HAVE TO...nothing HAS to be any game...but arn't the games better with those options in them???

If they didnt add the option for duel wielding? Then all the other gamers who never wanted it to begin with are happy...if they DO add it? then nothing changes for those gamers who never wanted it in the first place bcc they wont use it, but for those who do want it...its there to be used...then everyone's happy. (having said that i again understand how hard it is for game developers to try and sift through the wants of us players and prioritize them. Its a HARD job...for me its all about how the avatar looks and plays, its style. I like MMO'S with extensive customization both in looks and stats. (and skills) FFO is the closest ive found to what i like)

I understand that for MMO games its hard to create truly custom characters bcc of game mechanics and other things...this goes into another debate about one on one pvp...and which class would be more dominate over the other...but it would be amazing if the game went in that direction and the strength of your character was determined by how much work u put into it, skills aquired in game, stat allocation, cross class skills, unique skills (dont have those in this game) just having this...pool of stuff to build your character with, and how you build is your choice. but thats another debate. For now...looks and a possible new class/skill/passive ability of dual wielding is what im after.

The problem is (and this is going back to my second point on this thread) i cant wear my bohemian coat overtop that muscle shirt...it automatically gives me that blue shirt thing Snow wears. I wish there was an option to utilize JUST the coat so i could use that muscle shirt u suggested here. That would be awesome.

The bohemian coat + shirt is one whole object which is why you can't modify it. They would have to completely redesign it if you wanted to remove the part that goes under. It's kind of like saying you wish they would make a burger without the beef patty in the middle. That's not a burger you want... It's bread. Leave the burger be!

Actually that analogy isnt accurate. What i want is like saying "Id like a burger with everything on it, except mayo or pickles" Im still getting what I want, (the coat...or in this case a burger) just getting it my way. Thats why this thread (and others like it) involve saying things like adding MORE customization. I understand why i cant remove the shirt from the bohemian coat, i know its one option. But i would like it not to be in the future. I have a lot of faith and i believe in our game developers. So im voicing it. :)

I should probably mention too that my personality thrives off customization and finding loop holes/ways/people in order to achieve a goal...

a good example would be my car.... my car has a custom engine out of a different car and a different look to it than stock, long story short, its faster, more fuel efficient, aerodynamic and looks cooler...all wins.....but it DOES NOT look like it could not have COME that way from the factory...it's not like i put jet wings on it) I like having things that are different? but not SO different that it fies in the face of EVERYTHING...if i buy a car? i wont keep it stock looking or stock performing...ill make it look different than every other factory car out on the road in its class(without re-inventing the wheel)...but im not gonna make a Scion look like a Ferrari if you know what i mean. And i also know a lot of ppl are NOT like that, and they are perfectly happy with what comes form the factory and its factory options. (Like not having a duel wielding ability in FFO....until we do) And thats cool.

But yeah there are others like me who love taking those factory things from the box and the first thing that pops into there mind is...(now how can i make this thing better/more fun/unique to myself) Thats me. So i understand if this mindset doesnt jive with some ppl, and some of you arn't supporting/understanding where im coming from. I like discussing why it might or might not work in a game??? bcc i dont wanna ruin the game or (make a scion out of a Ferrari) And i appreciate everyone, the community of FFO is another huge reason why i joined up. I really hope they will add this in some way in the future!

There are tons of people like these on the forums, but in reality, much like your car example, things have limitations. Just like you can't upgrade your engines output preformance without upgrading your brakes so you can stop easily from a higher speed, SE can't just add things without looking at what it can and will effect in game. A lot of times its better to just let things be and not worry about it because it will cause more cons than pros in the end.
