Why does the Gold Needle even exist?

This is getting rather silly, it doesn't work on ANYTHING.

By chance i got one from a quick venture and had it hanging around in my inventory, then a while later decided to do void ark. Fast forward, last boss, healer gets hit by petrify of course. So I'm thinking: Hey this is my chance to ACTUALLY USE this item and save the healer.

No effect. Nothing. "GOLD NEEDLE has no effect"

I can understand it not working on super petrify in stuff such as A5S, Old turn 7 and savage (yes i tried way back when), laideronette etc or even raid petrify (nerfed t7).

But a 7 second NORMAL petrification in VOID ARK not cleansable by an item designed to do only that?

Please can you just remove this item or make certain consumable items not bad? I don't see why they should be existing if they don't work on anything.

Yep. Have never found any situation in which it worked.

We can't have mechanics beaten with ITEMS! What madness!
But for real, it would be nice to see items have some use.

Same reason the Phoenix Down exists OP. Granfather Clause caused by the name of the game, Its a Final Fantasy Title, it has to have Gole needles, Antidotes an Phoenix Downs. Plus It would cheese the fights where petrification is a thing.

It's not just this item.

Spine drops don't work on 51+ paralysis, nor WoD chimera paralyzing voice.
Antidotes work in some 50 dungeons, but usually it's wasted.

The fact that these items work not just at all, but inconsistently makes them utterly useless.

I wish they would add potent versions of everything and make it work on raid-level status effects. Make alchemy useful beyond stat boosts and mana/health pots (oh, but hey, they have f***ing sheet music now! /s)

Edit: need alchemy reraise effects, too.

Gold needle is for level 50 mobs and below. Has almost no use. Good time to use it is on tank on first trash pull pack 3 of labyrinth of the ancients, if he gets hit by petrify from the ahrimans. Other then that I have never seen any other use. Yes you are correct, they are pretty much useless, like the elemental materia.

- Make a Final Fantasy title
- include iconic items that don't do anything

Speaking of inconsistencies and status effects, why can consussion in Anti Tower be Esuna'd but not concussion in Alexander Midas 5? It's the same status effect, same icon, player animation when under the effect is the same. Can this game just stop doing shit like that changing its own rules? for things you absolutely cannot remove they should change the colour of the icon. I don't mind this one but different colour icons would be nice. Trying everything once or twice including esuna is part of the fun of progression.

Worked in T1 if someone got petrified from the trash mobs but that's the last I remember seeing it used.

Worked yesterday on a player who got petrified by an A rank hunt mob (ARR), so it seems to work with "level 50 mobs and below" as keyburz said.

Gold Needle won't work on Void Ark Petrification. Half the items you used to use for lvl 50 shit don't work in 60 content. Even worse is all items share a recast timer. So say use a potion that has a 4 minute cooldown. Your Gold Needle can't be used for that 4 minutes either.

Phoenix Downs should be a one time raise considering you can only hold one of them and be able to be used in battle like EVERY OTHER FF GAME.

Most of the items in this game for battle use are completely worthless.

It by extension makes my Alchemist mostly worthless. Orchestrion rolls though. >:P

I don't know, I've always just found it annoying in this game how it'll teach you one thing but may be different the next trial without warning, you only have to see it once I guess but if you're gonna name it the same, animate the same and use the same icon at least be consistent, the amount of times I've esuna'd petrification and then forgetting it doesn't work in another trial is again annoying.

It's called the devs breaking their own rules.
