Should each role have a separate limit gauge?

The best strategy for each fight this xpac has come down to using a DPS LB3.
I haven't seen a tank LB, much less a tank LB3, since doing final coil synced.
I only see healer LB3 doing more than offsetting an imminent wipe during normal midas or other very old content.

Will healer and tank LBs ever have priority over DPS LBs? Evidence in HW so far shows that no, they won't.

So why not have 3 different LB gauges, one for each role? Would there need to be tweaks? Maybe for healer LB3, but tank LBs are either very lackluster or super niche.

The only separate LB bars I've seen are in pvp and to be fair it would get fairly broken with all the types of lb3's since if timed well you could just cheese through anything so balance would be a major issue

The only cheesing I can see happening is with healer LBs, but tank LBs are pretty insignificant, and DPS LB3 has become mandatory in every HW raid. Outside of separate gauges for LB, I can't see anything other than DPS LB3 being used.

Ultima HM needed tank to LB3 when he was first released... but honestly the LB3 for healer and tank are "oh no... unless i use this we are going to wipe"... even with everyone having their own LB would ppl still even use them as tank or heal...

DPS LB is generally better because it helps kill the boss... if u need to use the LB for anything else it means that after u use it u will win... or u have just delayed your wipe by a few seconds... otherwise its a wasted LB... but I agree with Korra... they would have to nerf the LB3 for the dps... otherwise ppl would just save up the 4 LB and let it rip on the boss... I have seen tanks use the LB in instances that dont have LB3 too... its mostly a saving grace so we can finish the fight and not restart...

Healer LB3 usage was pretty popular alongside the A4S sac strategy, and even in current content like A8S, a lot of groups opt to use Tank LB3 during a robot rampage phase to ensure survivability against mirages, chakrams and beams, so saying that both HealerLB3 and TankLB3 have been irrevelant so far in HW is kind of a wrong statement. They are both pretty central to the current popular strategies used.

You're misunderstanding what I'm suggesting. It's not the each player would have an LB, it's that each ROLE would have an LB. So at most, you could have 1 tank, 1 healer, and 1 DPS LB at a time.

Very interesting concept to think about, just wondering how the individual bars would fill up...for example the dps bar would fill up as DPS players dps the boss, Healer bar would fill up with each healing spell they cast, Tanks bar would fill with each block or parry or even each time they hit the boss like dps?.

The semantics and nuances of filling up the bar can be whatever works, but I think the core idea is good.

It wouldnt matter if each player had one or each role had one.. unless its something that would factor into the mechanics the LB is wasted and not used...

What about a system similar to trance from FFIX? Something that adds a bit of flavor to your job but doesn't destroy the balance of the battle and LBs can still work as normal

Tank and healer LB3s are almost always "damage control" abilities...something goes wrong and you use it to (try to) save the run. A4S (Healer LB3 is used for the Pentacle Sac strat) and A8S (Tank LB3 is used to make a mechanics-heavy phase easier to survive) both have starts that use one or the other to make the fight much more manageable.

As far as non-raid content goes...the only fight that needed either synced was Ultima HM, for the last set of orbs. Healer LB3 and Tank LB3 were used the same in AAR as they are in HW...damage control (and the only place I remember that working consistently was on the Cloud of Darkness fight, if she ate too many clouds) Heck, in AAR there were only two fights for tank lb3 (T13 and Ultima HM) and I don't recall any where healer LB3 was used purposefully.

But...damage control is their purpose (literally), either to mitigate before (tank) or after (healer) something goes wrong.


As far as the suggestion goes, right now you need to choose between the three; fights will need to be adapted to allow for them. Harsher heal and tank checks, and more mechanics will be the norm (think, A6S unnerfed as a non-raid fight...hmm, actually, I bet unnerfed A6S would be fairly easy if you could use all three LB once you got Blaster down...)

As it currently is I find the LB system entirely unfun. I definitely would like to see it changed in some way.

Agreed, I do think the LB system should change. I really wish they would just nerf LB and give everyone their own LB bar like in pvp.

Personally, I think that each TYPE of LB should have their own bar. A party wide bar for ranged, a party wide variety for melee, for casters, tanks, and healers. Perhaps they might need to get kerfed slightly, buy it would allow for more diverse strategies and theoretically harder fights.
