I feel like in the next expansion, we shouldn't just go to one place. I feel like it should involve many places. If they just give us a new city state per expansion, and release the same Mor Dohna type formula again and again, I would get bored of the game.

I agree. In addition to expanding the continent a bit, I hope they add entire new zones to Uldah, Gridania, and La Nocea. I would even love to see the existing zones in those areas expanded upon with new high level content, and the ability to fly or swim, instead of only creating a brand new city state thing and leave the older zones in the dust. It might be nice to new "flying" zones above Uldah and rest, where flying straight down will transfer you to the old zone instead of hitting an invisible wall like Sea of Clouds.
Imagine chilling in the Drowning Wench, heading outside and mounting your Griffon, and flying straight to the Floating City of Nym with nary a loading screen in sight! 4.0 could be an opportunity for the dev team to really remake the early zones how they want to, instead of what they were forced to do because of the 1.0 design and server limitations. -

Most people seem to agree we are going to Ala Mhigo (SP?) next expansion which, I believe, is supposed to be off the East Shroud and that way, so Gridania could be a starting point for a while till we manage to liberate it.

Comments at PAX strongly suggest we will cross the land bridge to the continent of Ilsabard in the future. But some day when they get time, yes it would be very nice to see the original zones broadened and updated.Quote:

With Ala Mhigo itself being a Revenant's Toll/Idylshire style restoration project over the course of 4.#s lifecycle... -

To lead us to Ala Mhigo we'll probably have patch 3.4 work out the last bit of kinks in Ishgard and transfer over to Ul'Dah. 3.5 will be namely about Ul'dah, Gridania and I can see the final trial being us inside the Castrum there for a showdown with the new Legatus who I forget his name.

...and while they probably have artwork for Doma started already too, I think there's just entirely too much leading us to Ala Mhigo right now. I'm like 99% certain that Yda and Papalymo are already there, and their story will transition us into the expansion. Yoshida's mention of Doomtrain, saying we'd see it when we head to the Garlean Empire, along with the not-so-subtle hint that it "might fly" tells me that they're already working on this.
I suspect it will be among the first primal battles released for 4.0, and will serve as a plot device to get us from Ala Mhigo to the Garlean Empire. -

I truely hope that when we reach Ala Mhigo we reclaim it fairly quickly only to have the Garleans go full doma on it, reducing it to ashes. If we remove the city we have a chance to see whats beneath it, to see where ultima weapon was stored.

Heavensward honestly felt a bit light in that regard, especially since, while large by FFXIV standards the zones were ratther average sized and not especially impressive. And honestly they started all feeling the same. I could see Ala Mihgo happening at the same time as we get new zones in other areas, but that's only if SE gets their **** together and starts putting a decent amount of devs on content creation, instead of giving them an apparent shoestring budget.

If I could have it my way, Id open up the beast Tribe zones in patches, Idyllshire would become a city state, we would start in Gridania, and have to work toward saving Ala Mhigo with the help of the Doman Refugees, Eorzean Alliance, and Ala Mhigans together, and then we'd march toward Othard all in one expansion, eventually liberating it. The Sharlayan island would also somehow come back. Id like the next one to be the opening of new places, and literally double our current explorable areas.
