In reguards to SE's decision on halting automatic reclamation of housing......

I like the post that was made about the people effected by the earthquakes, I think it would be nice if it was abolished altogether, the pose can be found here, it has been just over a month ago and my Wife and I lost out house due to a tornado, but I was opposed to the idea of the whole "automatic reclamation of housing" thing when it was announced, but if it wasn't for being at my in-laws place we would have lost our houses like 2-3 weeks ago, it was good to see we still have our houses in Eorzea since our real one was turned upside down and destroyed.

Always felt that a paying subscription should be enough to keep a house and the the idea of actually having to enter the house wasn't fair given some real life issues do affect people from loading the game.

At this point reclamation is the only fully "legal" way of selling back your property and getting back some of your investment. If the devs won't allow for us to sell to individuals, they really should give us the option to sell back to the game rather than making us wait for the reclamation process.

You should always voice out your disdain for things otherwise you let things continue, submission is never the answer.

I do think our subscriptions should be more than enough for our houses to be kept as long as they implemented house limiting factors like 1 per data center account or something along those lines to prevent hoarding.

I agree that SE needs to add a way to get a % of what you paid for your house when relinquishing land, but selling to other players? no, you'd have people buying multiple plots of land on alt characters/accounts and resale them at 300% the price they paid for it, thats what SE wants to avoid iirc.

I couldn't agree more, I think 1 per server, I.E. I have characters on Coeurl and Zalera as well as others but I think if someone had characters on those servers they both could get a house if they meet the requirements but only 1 per server.

Recently, a friend of mine lost their personal house to inactivity because of real life stuff, the main annoyance about it was that I was a tennant of their house and made sure to go into the house and even occasionally use it.

Same here, except the owner of the house was actually helping me keep the plants watered and fertilized outside. He never went in the house because there was nothing important for him inside. He was out of town the week that the reclamation warning came, and didn't have access to his computer. I couldn't afford to buy the lot when it went up for sale, so I literally just had to wave goodbye to it. Sure, it was his fault for not going inside, but he was definitely using the house for cheap teleports and gardening. Pretty sure he even put furniture on the lawn during the "inactivity" cycle.

All i can say is, if the house is not important enough for you to enter it for 45 days, then i don't really know if you need one in the first place. consider how so many of us dont even own a house, and some own 5 houses. you can argue that gardening is usefull cause it can make gill for you, but in that case, SE should do some plots decicated to gardening or farming for those people who don't want a house or don't need to use one inside but are only intrested to garden and make gill out of it.

The fact that they halted the reclamation timer due to the earthquakes is a perfect, current example that the 45 day timer is too short.

I hope they will reconsider it.

I wonder if they'll end the reclamation once they double the wards next patch?

I think the demolition should stay forever. Imagine this game in 2-3 years with a ghost neighbourhood because 50%+ left the game or something. This game needs some measure to prevent that!

45 days are ok, maybe when they add more wards they could increase it to 60+ days.

Double the time will be better.
Remove it and in some years some wards are full with houses from players who don't play anymore because other players will have no chance to buy those deserted houses.

Square is damed if they do and damned if they don't.

Not that I feel sympathy for them they created this monster when they bailed on the original idea of keeping Company and Private housing separate. The current system is perfect for the Company system it was never designed nor can it ever truly support the personal housing demands of all the players who want a home.

I pray one of these days they will stop putting bandaids on the real issue and separate personal housing from the wards, and work on a better system giving both Company and Private housing unique systems and allow them both to grow instead of this stagnating system where they are focusing their efforts on patching a broken system.

I'd like to see reclamation go completely.
Failing that, extend the period of time a player has to be inactive and only reclaim if a subscription has lapsed. Of course, for this to work, supply has to be increased and players being able to own multiple properties probably needs to go too; account bound housing shared with a player's alts would do a lot to decrease demand.

Alternatively, keep reclamation as it is but store all furnishings indefinitely (and stop making furniture that breaks when moved), that way players don't lose everything when their house is reclaimed.
At the moment, tenants are in a particularly bad position; it doesn't matter how active they are, if the owner is inactive they stand to lose access to the house, any breakable furniture they have placed and any crops they have growing in the garden.

To many houses are owned by 1 player, so to combat the lack of free plots, they need to keep the reclamation. When they add a system so everyone has 100% chance (no matter when they joined, like with Wildstar), then they can remove the reclamation system.

Reclamation is definitely a good thing. I don't want to see wards become ghost towns because all of their occupants have left the game, and players insist on permanency because one of those players MIGHT just MAYBE POSSIBLY come back someday... and then be the sole living occupant in an otherwise totally abandoned ward.

That said, the whole "Must enter your house" thing is silly. A paid subscription should be all you need to maintain your house. If your subscription lapses, THEN start a timer. Maybe shorten it from 45 days to 15, to prevent folks from abusing the duration to keep the house while spending most of their time unsubscribed (e.g. pay for a month, lapse for a month and a half, pay for a month, etc).

I totally agree with this, I am sorry that you might lose your house but I don't want it to go away. I blame SE for only putting a bandaid over this issue instead of remaking a better system. Housing should be available to everyone that wants one but as it stands now, its such a fail that this measure as to stay in place so others that are ACTUALLY PLAYING can have a chance on geting a house.

Housing reclamation is only needed because SE f'ed up the housing system in the first place. Rather than argue about what the time frame for reclamation should be, SE should just fix it or design a new, parallel system, so that there is no supply shortage.

I disagree with this. Housing reclamation should be a thing even if there were enough houses for everyone. I, for one, would be very disappointed if my house was the only one still occupied in my ward, with no hope that I'll ever have neighbors again... By clearing out houses of people who've quit the game, there's hope that new folks will move in again, and make the place a little more lively.

People quit the game, and when they do, they often quit permanently. We shouldn't have the corpses they left behind in the housing district fester for the rest of eternity.

A lot of players take breaks though. some quite frequently between patches...

I took a 6 month break at the beginning of heavensward. came back did the story skipped the junk. and I might drop my sub for a few months again when it runs out...

no reason to lose my house / investment for that. especially when they only hold onto your items / cost for 30 days or so after it's reclaimed...

on the subject of tenants though, they should apply the timer to them. so even if the owner of the house unsubs for a month or so. if the tenant/s are using that house on a daily basis it shouldn't be reclaimed.

so I kinda hope that with the ward expansions they make adjustments to the reclamation system...or even add a proper transfer system so if I do let my sub lapse I can transfer ownership to one of my tenants.

I do not think a person really has that much investment in the game if they taking a 6 month break for no other reason then because they want to. That then falls into the I have chosen not to play to instead of the I am unable to play.

You can still be pretty invested into a game even if you don't play it for a half a year, its just a lot people can often struggle and get addicted, better to avoid letting the game consume your life and drop the sub for a while until you get a proper itching to go back and play again.

One of my friends however only plays this game for the story, once he's done it all and caught up he drops the sub xD

Well the reclaim is known so if person really value their "investment" that much and still wants to take a break keep paying the sub log in and enter the house from time to time and then go back to their vacation or what ever they want to call it. Otherwise it more of a "i don't want to pay the sub" and falls into same area what I previously said.

People say just by paying their sub they should be able to keep their house, which it pretty much does work that way maybe not they way they exactly want to but it does work that way in a sense.

investment is subjective really.
I am heavily invested in my character for example jobs, levels and the progression of the main story and things like that.

but I really don't give a monkeys about gear as it's all throw away junk and not worth getting. so I don't invest huge amounts of time getting gear or attached to gear. except maybe a few pieces for glamour.

at present I've probably invested a total of 6-7 months in ffxiv since 2.0 relaunch. and am at the same point as many players. 2 of my 60 jobs are 224+ ilevel the other 2 are 210+ 4 jobs at 60 may not be a lot to some people but there's no point levelling jobs I have no desire to play.

i'm grabbing a few 230 lore pieces but it's not worth getting the 240 as a I don't need it and b it's going to be replaced with 250+ anyway. so all the time you invested in savage is going to be wasted...

this is the nature of vertical progression. letting my sub drop for months does not mean i'm not invested in my character and there development or the the story and lore of the game. it just means I can't be bothered to get the latest and greatest gear when I know it's garbage tomorrow.

a house is a lasting thing though unlike gear. so a house is a worthwhile investment where gear is not.

which isn't to dissimilar from me really. story and friends are what keep me playing / coming back when I do let my sub drop, invested a lot of time in the story so of course I want to see what happens next..
