DRG PVP. I'm weak at burst?

kk so feast right? This other day I got paired with a gold PLD, silver WHM, and a bronze BRD (I am a bronze DRG currently). So match started out normally, cept 30 seconds into the fight we (us two dps) didn't manage to kill anyone. So tank starts to say "deeps is low orz" and when the match ended, "ugh, always bronze". Anyhow~ since I have only gotten to bronze in this feast I am pretty sure that the tank has a point- my dps isn't enough. So I tried looking up guides.....nope! none for pvp :P So I came here to ask all of you silver, gold and diamonds out there: HOW DO I IMPROVE?

Ah right! Rotation for pvp (burst): HT(internal release, B4B)>TT(Impulse Rush, Life srg,BotD)>FT(Pwr srg, Skewer)>Tier4(Jump, Geirskogul, Drgfire dive)>Impulse drive (Spineshatter, Mercy if can use)>Disembowel>regular pve rotation.

Hows ur gear? I'm not a DRG but you should be optimizing ur gear to have as much crit and DET as possible. If I recall from someone you need about 401 accuracy to hit ppl in The Feast... So go work that out.


I don't rlly play The Feast much anymore, but as a MNK I don't remember DRG's being much of a issue.. NIN's were scary though and they luved to bind me which sucked.

I'm by no means an expert at PVP (though I seem to do fine). But for starters you want disembowel much earlier in your rotation. Blowing all of your jumps without the piercing debuff is a huge waste.

Hmmmm since I'm lvl synced, that does help right? or do I have to go all crit/acc n stuff?

So meaning I should exchange my FT combo with my Chaos Thrust combo? Then should I use my impulse rush on the fourth tier combo? or should I use it for the FT combo after the CT combo?

Yes min maxing gear aboved ilvl 150 to get the most det n crit and still have around 400 accuracy helps.

Yes I have, and it has really is amazing and really helped me pve wise. But I don't think it mentioned anything about pvp no?

For PvP basically all you wanna do is spam all your ogcd skills asap while rolling through a CT rotation.

I tend to pre-pop IR+BL+B4B and lean in with SSD>HT>IDC4 with Impulse Drive sometime before Chaos Thrust, Weapon Throw if they try to flee, DFD used to chase, and only use Jump after a Leg Sweep so they can't escape while you're animation locked. Someone mentioned Disembowel blahblah - it doesn't matter nearly as much in PvP as it does in PvE for your own skills. You need it up there (especially with MCH/BRD behind you) asap, yeah, but you don't need to hold everything until after it's up.

One important thing to note: a single DPS doing good burst on one enemy is very unlikely to kill that enemy in PvP. You need both DPS coordinating efforts to down someone with the healer not CC'd or dead.

Oh! I see what you mean. So PvE is different from PvP. Sorry, I do not PvP so i just assumed it would be mostly the same as PvE out of ignorance(except with a few new, PvP-only skills).
I forgot monsters dont usually heal and more times than not, have way more Hp than what would allow for a burst to happen. I should probably keep a watch on this thread. I might learn something. xD

Life Surge either on fourth tier with Impulse Rush buff or save it for the following Full Thrust. The enemy should ideally be dead after your CT combo finishes. If it'll only last 1-2 more hits, your best bet is ID>Dis, but if it'll last longer (and assuming it hasn't purified away all your debuffs) you'd wanna follow with FT combo. It's all a judgment call you gotta decide on the fly. You always wanna lead with CT, though, especially if Impulse Rush is ready, and especially if your rdps is BRD/MCH so that their finishing heavy hitters get an additional 10% boost.

Also be sure to not use any damaging off-gcd hits until Disembowel is applied. Load up all your biggest burst at the end, between CT>4th and then after the 4th. Unlike in PvE, it's okay to delay GCDs in PvP if it means hitting with harder skills. After the 4th hit, your next shot will be 180 potency at best - load that space with skills that do more than 180 potency, instead.

All right! Now is the time to put this into test (on the dummy cause hell do I need to get this into muscle memory)

To be honest, I just sorta wing it and people die. I'm usually top damage when my team wins, and lower otherwise primarily because I can't keep myself alive for long, especially during B4B.;;; Keen Flurry, Foresight, Recouperate, Second Wind, and Bloodbath only go so far.

ALSO. Before using SSD to close onto a healer (or dps, but mostly a healer) make sure you have Fetter Ward! It should ALWAYS be just before Jumping on someone, so they can't bind/knockback/stun and ruin your burst.

echoing what people have said, load up your buffs a bit before you really get rolling. try to get your dmg and ogcd's out with litany and impulse rush up (all the crits). most buffs should be up before you hit impulse, including power surge. life surge is the only thing i'll hold, specifically for a full thrust or 4th hit.
also bloodbath can be a life saver during your burst too. I do specifically try to have that up anytime I bfb.

also, I used this post in the pvp forum to work on my burst back in seal rock. still mostly true in the feast I'd think.
