Unranked is not counted is my guess. That would put you still within a rank of each other.
Just had a series of Bronze/unranked healers/tanks in my team, while I was trying to clear my Gold Promotional Series... Enemy team? Silver. Gold. Silver... Three times, I hit 900, and three times, I ended up with horrible matchmaking. And then the game just decided to pull out every last unranked player it could and throw it at me... Enemy SCH? Silver. On HER Promotional series. Mine? Unranked AST. So stupid.
lol , the problem of the matchmaking is certainly the lack of players.
SE can certainly fix this but it will make queue longer.
After player will complain about the queue.
This, it is based on your points not your tier. Started seeing this when I first hit high Bronze and now high Silver. It is averaging your points, so if you are a high point player in your tier you are very likely to get matched with a low point player from the higher tier.
Also, it may be that those silvers are blowing through the division. Maybe they're on a hot streak and the game is really testing to see how far they'll go. If they pull off the win, maybe they'll get a bigger elo boost to get them to where they should be quicker.
I honestly think everything is fine, besides unrankeds being in any matches that aren't full unrankeds or bronze.
3gold 1 silver vs 3 silver 1 gold or 2gold dps 1bronze healer 1 silver tank against 2silver 2gold(one of them being healer)
its broken af its just luck almost 0 skill if you get bad rng for 5 matches enjoy ur -100+ pts or more
4 bronze vs. 1 silver (me) and 3 unranked
Ty Square.
At least censor the names before you do that.
IMO they need to matchmake the DDs by 'damage-done/kills-average'. Because 1 silver healer (soon to be bronze it seems) does not equate 2 bronze DDs, SE.
Also why is there no just-for-fun 4v4 unranked?
I disagree with that "so politically correct" policy because it passed from "avoid to flame people even if they are not doing exactly the right thing" (I agree with this part, bcause this is anyway a game) to "OMG make me a ghost, no one have to know where I was or what I did/said", in a MMO anyway someone wil lsee you, you have to deal with it, and if you can't handle it even in a game, I'm worried about how much privacy those people demand in the real life XD
(I'm not talking about you, I think you just explained the SE policy)
Actually until people don't use that numbers to flame or demotivate players I don't see any issue.
I beg pardon for the off topic >.<
I think for the fear of queue splitting, actually if you que for more than 1 pvp content it seems that DF crap a lot (from personal experience, maybe I'm wrong)
I think that if DF see you queued for a content, try to put you in the istance that is waiting longer to pop, in order to avoid dead queues,
but for people that que more than 1 content this mean that you haven't an higher chance to get a pop, instead you wil lbe used to fill the longer one x)
If this wouldn't happen I would really like to see a mode like that!
Honestly. i stopped playing once i got my mount, I reached silver then.
The amount of people who
1. Suck & Don't take any advice i.e "Please focus X player than X, Or. Pick up medals i already have X stack on me, then scream at me for not picking up any more medals.
2. O! M! G! That player is so godly. GeeGee we lost.
3. Omfg f'in noobs. i give up.
4. X player Screams high and low that every other team mate sucks. Ends up with less DMG than the PLD.
Should i continue ?
Greetings,
The matching system for the Feast is currently working as intended. Yoshi-P touched on how matching for the Feast is handled in a previous post.
With that said, while we cannot promise any changes, we have relayed your feedback to the dev. team to see if further adjustments can be made to the matchmaking system so that players at similar tiers are matched better.
Can we get actual tiers? I think the current problem is that we only really have five ranks at the moment (Bronze and unranked might as well be the same thing IMO). If you make matchings really tight, then queues suffer, because Silvers are looking for Silvers... If you don't do that... You only have five ranks to play around with, you're not going to match people well like that... The result is what we currently have, where matchings are typically unbalanced and thus unfun...
Adding tiers to each rank would give you more points to play with... Suddenly, when you say "We'll match you within three ranks", that isn't so bad... If we're going Bronze > Bronze 2 > Bronze 3 > Silver > etc., then you'd be matching us much more closely than currently... Right now if I'm at Silver for example, I'm potentially matched with unranked players and Platinum players, that's really bad... If I was at Silver 2 instead? Keep the same three point difference, but now I'm matched with anything from Bronze 2 to Gold 2. That is much more likely to be within my skill level than what we currently have, which is effectively playing with the very worst or the very best...
I don't think it is broken as much as it shouldn't be this way. also, people showing games where you have two silvers vs a team full of silvers could mean that you are on the high end of silver and they are near the bottom, that is like a 400 point difference.
I think that's exactly how the system is built to create a STEEP uphill climb for anyone attempting to progress past Silver.
Every time I get near my gold qualifier, I get a lot of games with unranked people (probably due to what Aviars said -- the system is averaging the points for matchmaking, not really the ranks as a whole... in this sense, the ranks are irrelevant and the numbers are what matter). I've been hovering around 800ish for a week. I can't really say any of my losses were explicitly my fault, though I am always 'okay' with close games because at least the teams gave each other a good match. What I don't like is getting slaughtered because the teams are clearly at different levels of skill. I notice these two scenarios as the most likely to happen:
1) We get slaughtered because our healer is new. In addition to not really knowing how to PvP heal, they might not have PvP abilities set up or understand how arena works. I've lost a few games today because the new healers were clearly uncomfortable with the environment and game mode. You can sometimes push through this IF your dps/tank is REALLY on point... but what ends up happening is we'll get a Bronze in the mix, too, and the damage is simply not enough to carry the new healer.
2) We can't down anyone because the other DPS is new and/or our tank doesn't really understand the importance of stun-locking someone or generally being annoying to casters. (Thus, the enemy healer has no trouble keeping someone alive.) Even if the other team doesn't have an easy time landing a kill, they will outlast us simply based on our inability to down someone ourselves.
Now, when it comes to uneven matchups, the above scenarios can happen to either team... So the game feels less about 'skill' and more about 'who was the unlucky one this round'. I personally just had a game against an unranked healer. It was an absolute massacre -- we destroyed them. That didn't feel fun to me, really. It was more like... "Well, I'm glad I wasn't on that team..."
Although I'd always prefer to win, I don't ever feel a sense of frustration when I lose against people of similar skill levels (as long as everyone is playing their best)... because at least it felt exciting and like we were really putting our skills to the test. Also, it's during matches like this that I'll actually learn something and become better as a player by witnessing more competitive play.
Of course... I know, I know. Solo queues are meant to throw you in with random people... and yes, it's harder to coordinate with randoms... but the matchmaking has got to change. I've seen several people who had a lot of difficulty getting over that Gold 'hump' because of the problems described above.
Took me FIVE promotional qualifiers because of that nonsense. Amusingly enough, I actually managed to get my third and final victory, with a healer who walked in with the first match achievement. They were.... decent. I was just lucky enough that my co-DPS and tank descended on the kill targets like a pack of angry wolves.
It damn near broke me. On the fourth attempt, I had won two, lost two. The fifth and final match, I ended up with Aether's match thrower. Was talking to a friend over TS during and after the match... The resulting soul shattering sob as I tried to tell them what had happened... I ended up walking away from my computer, and just going to bed, because I couldn't deal with the sheer frustration and anger I was feeling in that moment.
Aether's match thrower? You mean someone's gotten a reputation for being a prick doing that kind of stuff? Well, this is the internet after all, so I shouldn't be surprised. The only solace I've found is that problems like that solve themselves. He wants that reputation, but it's exactly that kind of reputation that will get him banned shortly. I really don't know what's wrong with people doing things like that, when it only makes them easier to pick out and remove.
Dayum, I have just made similar thread to find out it already exists. Should have read more.
So far I thought that the opposing team's rating is somehow average of my team's rating. OP proved me wrong. But even if it was perfect average, I would be against it.
Having gold DPS but bronze healer when opposing team has bronze DPS and gold healer isn't even close to being a fair fight.
Then you guys should have intended it in different way. :)

This thread should really be renamed to... "Matchmaking isn't working to my advantage"
If it's so broken then why is it not for others? Other people are successful its just that you are not and instead of blaming your own ability it's easier to blame it on others or the devs. Those people with higher rating have the same issue and conditions as you. Small team pvp such as 4v4 is tough, it is in other MMOs and it is here as well. Don't like the people you get randomly teamed up with? Form a ranked 4v4 team. They have that in here just for that reason but be forewarned it's going to be even more competitive there... Also if you're basing everything off someone's tier then you clearly don't know how matchmaking works in PvP games.
SE needs to hire Terry Tate forum linebacker for threads like these...
This is honestly why I don't want to do PVP...
I liked PVP is earlier forums in FFXIV, But the RAGE because it matter know turns me off.
Not everyone has a proper competitive mindset when you should ask yourself what can *I* do to improve my situation.
To be the best in a rankin system that has random teamates. You're gonna have to carry. You're gonna have to learn to call shots, and sometimes even learn other jobs and roles so you can direct clueless teamates toward a reachable goal. See someone going out on their own, call them back instead of waiting for them to die in a 4v1. Silently curse your "luck" and complain on the forums.
Other people are ranking higher than you and it's not "all luck" they just carry better.
Some rolls can carry better than others :< The top primal centre players are all melee dps, save for one healer that brute-forced his way there by doing waaay more matches than the others on the list, simply because that's what you HAVE to do as healer if you want to be in the top 100, let alone top 10.
Which means, it CAN be about luck. If you have a melee dps on your team that knows what they are doing, you are much more likely to win than getting a melee dps that doesn't.
Some roles are more broken than others too. I just LOVE it when I am slept/stunned/silenced continuously in a match because I am against a PLD+WHM+BLM combo when I have a DRK,SMN combo while I am on astro.
I really don't think this is the case, considering how many people who got Gold have seemingly just stopped at this point... They got Gold when everyone was still playing, there were plenty of players kicking around who actually know what they're doing, sure they'd still get paired up with the odd idiot when climbing to Gold, but with a higher playerbase of people who know what they're doing comes a higher chance of playing matches which aren't pathetic... Now that seemingly half the top 100 aren't even playing, with more still settling on maybe a couple matches (based on low rating changes) and who knows how many competent people in Silver who've just given up... The number of people who know what they're doing in Feast has dropped noticeably, at least for me there is a very noticeable difference in match ups between last week and this week, pretty much a complete 180. Matches just aren't fun anymore, because the majority of people who know what they're doing and are fun to play with/against have stopped playing...
People are done with Feast, as such the conditions have changed. SE failed to make matchmaking and the rewards appealing enough for a significant number of people to bother pushing past landing in the top 100. The result is people get into the top 100 and either stop out right, or significantly tone down their playtime, meaning everyone left behind no longer has the benefit of their company. Am I saying I want them to carry me to Gold? Hell no, I want to play against them as much as I want to play with them, because those matches were actually fun, regardless of the outcome... Now that plenty are just stopping though, it's only a matter of time until the remainder stop, because of this exact issue... It's a problem that's only going to get worse...
Not that matchmaking is the only problem, but if things were fine, people wouldn't be quitting while they're ahead... Matchmaking can pair you with a player way out of your league, and as such it isn't worth the risk to continue playing... I don't think anyone can call Feast a success at this point, too many players are dropping out... That's just what we see at the top of the leaderboard, too... Lord knows what is happening down at the bottom... Can't imagine it's good though, new players get matched with people going for Gold and either get chewed out by their team, or utterly destroyed by the higher rank they're matched against... Doubt they'll stay interested in PvP for long with matches like that... This broad matchmaking might be good for queue times, but if anyone thinks it's good for the PvP community in the long run, I'd love to hear why...
